Thank you for this, you're helping countless people not only to understand the minute differences in individual sounds between languages but also providing teachers with the tools they need to convey this in new ways across platforms. Best wishes.
LITERALLY... Those who are having problems with pronounciations, JUST COME TO THIS GUY Thanks a lot Sir. It's my spelling bee exam in some days and because of you I am feeling really confident and prepared now. 😊😊
Hi there. I think, there is a written mistake at 2:16. It should be "Where does each sound come from?". By the way - great explanation of the intricacies of English pronunciation.
'Where doeS each sound come[S] from' just one 's' at 2.18 mn ;) ! Excellent video anyway to be used in English courses. Thank you for your time and your work !
Thank you very much .. for help us and improve our language ... Iam yossef ... 19 years old ... study at egypt .. in damanhour univerisity ... and i need alot of help ,,, :)
It's because it comes from the Greek. Just about any word in English that uses "ph" as "f" is derived from Greek, same goes for "ch" making the "k" sound.
Watching this I realized that as a Californian, I pronounce things a little more closely to how they are spelled than they are in mainline English. For example, we pronounce the 'b' in "comb," and the 'r' in "laughter." We don't tend to silence those. We just go soft on them so they won't be harsh sounding, but we still pronounce them. I believe that is typical of American accents more generally.
Yeah, British English tends to drop a lot of "r"s that are pronounced in American English (and some of us Yankees even add in extra ones). Still a good intro, just good to know that the pronunciation guides here are not universal.
This the best course among the others out there. But the sound quality could have been better. There's some echo coming out of the video. I hope the channel owner notice.
I remember when I was a kid, I used to ask adult why the spelling and pronunciation is inconsistent and no one is able to give me an answer about that. I also noticed the pronunciation is not so straightforward like other language. Therefore learning English is always being a pain in my ass
That's the common way to pronounce pronunciation! I'm English and when online teachers say pro-nun-see-ay-shun it sounds odd. There's even a poem about English pronunciation called The Chaos. If you say pro-nun it doesn't rhymne, so there's history of pronunciation having an inconsistent spelling.
Nice video, but I was thrown off every time he said "pro*noun*ciation" instead of "pro*nun*ciation" In my personal English teaching experience, that's a mistake a lot of people make, and I'm always embarrassed when I accidentally say it to my student. In this video he said it about 20 times (it was the main topic of the video)! As he said, it's good to have someone to correct you when you make a mistake, that's how we keep learning. So I wanted to just mention it here for anyone watching the video! The correct pronunciation of pronunciation is pronunciation. Edit: I saw another comment someone responded to where they say that "pronounciation" is the "common way" it's pronounced. I disagree; to me it just sounds incorrect, and in the context of the video, ironic. Maybe it's a British English thing. In American English, I wouldn't teach it to be said that way, and I would probably correct a student who said it that way...But it just goes to show there are a lot of ways to be right and wrong in English speaking, and it helps not to be too nitpicky.
It's the correct way to say it the same way you do over here as well. As a Brit I'm finding it difficult to listen to purely because of the topic of the video. Good job for bringing it to people's attention politely!
Thanks. Great presentation with great content and valuable learning material. Just unfortunate that the microphone sound isn't great. Wonder if there was a proper sound guy working on this video...
Hi, Thanks for all the videos, they were of much value to me. Could you please create videos for intonation, stress, contrast and linking words in English ? Regards, Anwar

Have you ever wondered why the word phonetics isn't spelt with an "F"?
Damn you are right
haha, that is a really good point.
i'm wondering why O is not pronounced
Because of φ = ph ?
It's because it comes from the Greek. Just about any word in English that uses "ph" as "f" is derived from Greek, same goes for "ch" making the "k" sound.
🙏🙏🙏🙏thank you sir
OMG , that's better than attending classes !!

You are lucky, it is one of the problems with English. What about your grammar? Do you have many irregular verbs? Is the structure logical?
The man, the myth, the legend himself.
