Aire Wars + Dropped Drawers: UK + France Park Ups - Which is Best For Your Van Life?

  • Who does it better? The UK Vs. France in a van life battle of the Aires. BOTH park ups are great for the channel crossing (before or after).
We sleep overnight in the New Dover Canterbury Aire before travelling through the Euro Tunnel to try out one of the newest Aires in Amiens France. But which is better? You can decide.
This week we also have some classic van life troubles as one thing, that has been fine for years by the way, decides to eject itself inside the bus. Thankfully a quick mcguyver moment from Rich should see us through until we can do a proper fix when we are back at base.
We've a new challenge, to try out cheaper places to park our van conversion in the UK and Europe in 2024. As a family with a bus conversion we rarely wild camp, we like a spot for ourselves but do want options - so trying out aires and other stops this year will be essential to us. Especially for travelling days.
We first check out the Canterbury Aire, which is on the same site as the New Dover Park and Ride. We arrive late, and after a little settling in and fixing of an en-route breakage, showcase what its like at this UK park up that is conveniently close for the Dover ferry and euro tunnel crossings at Folkestone.
After making our way through the channel tunnel in our motorhome we seek out a French Aire and find ourselves at one that was opened in 2023. The Camping Des Cygnes aire is about half way between Calais and Paris, about 1.5 hours in our van from the tunnel, making it an ideal stopping off point.
Places visited in this weeks vlog:
    New Dover Canterbury Motorhome Aire
Camping Des Cygnes Aire just outside Amiens
Some of the things shown (includes affiliate links):
    Camco water filter: amzn.to/3SIdUY2
A new alternative to the above: amzn.to/3I6ewBY
As mentioned if you have any other park up suggestions do let us know, or even new places in the UK that we could try. We (and we bet other viewers) would appreciate it.
Thanks so much for watching, we hope to share more of our van travels with you soon.

    Great park ups👍🏻.
We NEED a filter. . Dave is going to message you Rich, if he hasn't already... we always use our own hose too, for the same reasons.
Has Lily been eating Jacks beans, she seems to get taller every week!

Ah brilliant. He already has 😆.
We know, Lily is sprouting up. She’s a matter of centimeters from not needing her seat in the van too. Although she likes the seat, it’ll be handy not to have to carry it in the van.

Always enjoyable vlogs. Have to laugh as you were talking about seagulls waking you up and thinking they were very loud, and then realising the noise was outside my van … seagulls on the eastern coast of Tasmania lol. Cheers!

Ha. They are noisy things. Swear they get bigger by the minute too. Thanks for your lovely feedback and hope all is good in Tasmania.

Hi Rich, think the item you looking for to stop your drawer opening whilst in transit is called a turnbuckle. Have a great holiday.

Ah thanks Jan, that is indeed the thingy we need. Will get one sorted when we get back, thankfully for now the jerry rigged hook is doing the job. Thanks so much for thinking of us, hope your travels go well.

Incredible value we thought, especially with services. I think we were spoilt for choice due the time of year, but we are keen to explore more in 2024. The filter is our second one, and we will replace it soon - we usually cut them open as morbidly curious at how much they filter out lol

You can park up on the seafront at Exmouth, no facilities but you can just walk out the van onto the beach. Tickets are from the pay and display machines.
Also have you got a link to the projector screen you guys have, it's just what I'm looking for. Keep up the good content.

      That’s a good shout. You’re right, I bet they’ve weakened over time.
We are definitely going to do more of Europe and France this year. We have way more places to do in the UK in fairness but just love how they’re setup - you should do it.

Those are fab aires! We are thinking of doing France but I don’t know, the thought of it just stops me taking the plunge, think it’s because it’s such a big unknown?!?

    • @WanderbusAdventures
      @WanderbusAdventures  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yeah we know what you mean Ian. I think it depends on the time of year you’re planning on traveling, we are far more planned in the summer because it can be so darned busy. They are so well setup in France for vans and motorhomes though, it’s crazy different.

@@WanderbusAdventures I so want to do it and your videos are helping overcome that hurdle of what if etc. would ideally like to go in July/August for a week to a campsite with a pool/water park not too far of a drive the other side.

We have just bought another to swap this one out, so will probably do a little video on how well (or not) it works but cutting it open. We like doing odd things like that 😊
