    There is one hub for BMX (racing) that has better engagement. Profile Elite was once 120 points for three degrees. Now, it's 204 points for around a degree and a half. Onyx Stealth has I don't know how many points, but it's true zero degrees. But, it's heavy and silent.

    • @stuartgibson
      @stuartgibson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So it seems there is a trade off in engagement and weight of a hub. Would you consider the Elite to be a more popular hub in racing or a more overall better spec’d hub than Onyx Stealth?

    • @devildoglcpl
      @devildoglcpl 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stuartgibson what I said about the Onyx is really all I know. I do know that the Profile is more dominant on the track than the Onyx. I assume that is due to weight and sound. People love that sound. I also know that the Answer Holeshot and the Box Harmonic are now what what profile used to be. 6 pawls, 120 points, 3°. Me personally, I am a profile fanatic.

      Awesome, I am very unfamiliar with racing so it’s cool to learn about it. I’m also a big Profile fan myself!

      The Onxy hubs are not the same as the stealth hubs. They are similar but have different drive mechanics. Onxy hub used a sprag clutch. The True Precision(now Box components) stealth hub uses a one way roller bearing. They both have instant engagement and both are silent. Both offer less drag than a conventional driver with pawls. The Onxy is also the most expensive bmx hub on the market at around $550usd.

    Might as well get the ti driver too if you're spend that kind of money right?

    • @stuartgibson
      @stuartgibson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you think it’s worth spending the extra money and you are able to spend it. It is cheaper when you order the hub brand new with a ti driver instead of doing the whole upgrade thing at a later stage.

    Is there a break in period on the Hubs . I just got my wheel set from profile and I feel they don't spin as freely as I thought they would

    • @stuartgibson
      @stuartgibson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doesn't take long at all tho. Keep in mind that because of the amount of pawls in the hub there is more resistance and it will make it slow down quicker than some other hubs. No point in comparing them, just enjoy them!

    Would it be safe to run 4 pegs with this hub?

    • @stuartgibson
      @stuartgibson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well just like every other hub, if you plan on having a 14mm axle and hub guards then yes go for it! Female axles with profile hubs are less recommended because of the aluminum inner axle. I think they have steel upgrades for that too if you really want to stick to female axles.

    hey I have a question about the button head bolts for the elite cassette and for the elite front hub. Do they both use the same button head bolt? And do I need to get the 3/8 to 14mm one or can i use the regular 3/8?

    • @stuartgibson
      @stuartgibson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question! Yes the front and the rear use the same bolts. You can use regular 3/8 in the cassette however, as your frame (extremely likely) has 14mm dropouts you will need to use spacers to fill in the gap. A 3/8 to 14mm bolt does that already so that's what I'd recommend. Do note that if you plan on riding pegs with the 3/8 to 14mm bolt that they have a specific peg bolt that has a longer 14mm section.

  • @marklee7769
    @marklee7769 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    hey man I came across another problem. I have the hubs and the rims but when it came to spokes I came across something that I have never seen before. When i put the spokes into the hub they were super tight and won't move when they are inside the hub. Why is that? Do I need to get specific spokes for the elites? I know the length and everything but I can't lace them due to the flanges squeezing the spokes really really tight.

    • @stuartgibson
      @stuartgibson  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Mark, the Elite does not need specific spokes. I think almost all BMX wheels use 14 gauge spokes. Maybe you have 13g ones? They are thicker. Are you using polished spokes or colored ones? I’ve seen some thick paint on spokes before that made them super tight inside the hub. Just know that with the issue you describe 99% of the time it’s an issue with the spokes and not the hub.
