Tamas Bodo I don’t need single player practice also (and my single player is broken so I literally can’t control my aircraft) just because I gave detailed comms descriptions and they sound cringey doesn’t mean my experience is worse than anyone else. Also I’ve never bothered to land on the carrier and for my first time I say I did pretty good with 6min left.

Hello all, I’m the one they call FOX. Now actually hearing the way I talk I sound super cringey. It’s hard being a noob especially in a game that’s technical and not easy for a 13 year old to learn. Hey man love the content though! Also I’m so sorry for screwing your eares out! I am new to the a10 and dcs in general. I still can figure out how to work the comms lol. It’s nice to sit back and laugh at my ass to though!
Cringe or not, I, and I imagine a lot of other people, almost always prefer someone who over-communicates to someone who doesn't communicate at all. At least with over-communicating you are still getting across necessary info---in contrast to that F-16 or whatever that was off comms doing his own thing, not telling anyone what targets they are engaging and the like. Just need time to learn the sweet spot. You'll get there.
I wouldn't put it as "cringey", just unusual in the given setting, really. As mentioned in other comments, people will give you shit for sounding young but that's all that it is about - it's all in good fun. I had a blast listening in with this video. You'll be an amazing addition to the sim community once you've grown into it some more.
I don't envy the GCI. I did tons of GCI in DCS and the comms dicipline and quality is all over the place. You get good days where the freq is clear and everyone understands everything and loads of people are on comms and respond, and then you get days where you get guys requesting you to be their personal satnav. One of my favorite calls is always "Magic, this is XXXXXX, just took off from AB XYZ can you give me vector to AB ZYX?" And my response would always be: "You have a map and a compass...use them." But the funniest was directing a striker onto a SAM site and after giving him target, bearing and distance, he asks "Altitude?" "On the deck...it's a SAM site..." And someone else pipes in "Ah, those pesky russian, balloon based SAMs." And the net was unusable for several minutes XD
Spent a lot of time on a small-ish BMS server, moderated it a bit and one day that kid comes along... On comms from the start, basic F-16 controls down (DMS, TMS, CMS, UFC ...), setting up DTC pre-mission and always ready to learn new stuff. I think at the time he was only 14. A bit juvenile from time to time but rather professional when needed. Good young lad to fly with. Wonder what became of him. I'm ready to give kids on AO shit every day, but I'll always appreciate a kid that's really getting into their airframe(s).
ThreeGhost idk for me anyways it wasn’t too hard the only thing i have trouble with is bfm which i need to work on. I’m 14 i would love to play with that guy tho

Ralfi, I loved your attitude with the kid. Always good to encourage using the radio, even if you feel a little out of your comfort zone. However, I think it's perfectly acceptable to roast em when it's warranted. The only way I learned BMS in my younger years was through trial and error, and usually the error involved a thorough berating from more experienced players. It builds character, and he'll be a great player in no time.

Personally, I think it's great to see kids getting into flight sims. The rest of us are getting old. (edit: I've never been on SRS. I stick to single player so I don't ruin it for whatever team ends up stuck with me. :P)
We fucking loved this kid, he's doing his best, he's on comms and as he grows he'll be an awesome addition to the sim community. It was cute, we were having a blast every time he spoke.

I think you should commit to multiplayer! Get in some PvE servers first, get to know some people... learn how to use SRS... its a whole different experience.
Same. I was that kid back in the FrugalsWorld days, just that nobody universally did Comms (or even MP since Falcon 4 was manual IPs) so it wasn't as apparent. Yes, one of the keepers of the IDOD in the Sad Bastards ("bastiges") Club was a bit young; but it comes with the territory of being an internet native. Anyways, as far as carrier landings; put the Velocity Vector on the 3 wire with positive AOA and walk the throttle to maintain that. Works out fine. I'm a Viper driver by heart, but I can slam it down like Spirit Airlines if I'm in a Navy jet.
I love your content. I'm brand new to DCS and your content is just so fun to watch. This game/sim is way over my head so it's fun watching someone who knows it well. Keep up the great content! DCS is the cure for cabin fever.
All the stuff with the kid was good fun, but for me, the highlight was the Mig-31 engagement from 15:57 - 16:40. Ralfi sounded perfectly calm, confident, and in-control and was even trying to educate his viewers on the finer points of the missile defense he was executing (like the good sport that he is), right up to the moment of being obliterated by the incoming AAM.
I keep coming back to this video for something to put a smile on my face. This is just such a lot of fun. That F/A-18C Hornet, Fox, bless the little guy for being on comms on DCS and trying to land on the carrier. Also, I love how even though this is DCS, TH-cam still has a "Get the latest information about coronavirus", just because your callsign is Corona.
in true honesty i feel bad for that kid... i always want to start at DCs and i figure i would be almost as bad as him, you know, i'm 31 and a civil pilot (and i know a A10 can't go super sonic) but apart from this kind of basic things i know nothing of military operations and i keep wondering to myself: would that be too different from what i know from the civil side? In the end he deserve some congratulations, i myself don't feel brave enough to enter a community of veterans when i would most likely be the only noob trying to learn.

nolbos this is why squares shouldn’t play Dcs. It’s a callsign and I’ve become kinda a meme on PGAW. It’s here to stay. It spreads a kinda theme of just relaxing and laughing together. If I wanted a actual callsign then I would get one. I play Dcs to have fun, for example me and my buddy Tommorow are recreating top gun on PGAW.

Sorry Ralfi (and fans), I don't watch much so I have a dumb question inbound. Do you regularly fly with viewers in DCS? I've been learning here and there, and I've joined up with an online group that plays quite regularly. Still, I'm trying to experience as many different perspectives as possible. To that end, if you do fly with viewers I'd love to know how I'd go about getting into that. If not, that's all well and good. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this!
Don't be! Ralfidude has a fantastic basic radio comms tutorial, check it out and go practice! Mediocre radio comms are 100x better than no radio comms. If you tell people you're new, people will be really lenient and help you. Every once in a while you get an asshole, but in my experience they get shamed immediately for such conduct.
There are places to learn, and if you don't know you can just ask! The "talk like a pilot" stuff is all brevity to keep the comms clear as much as possible. As long as you try and do that and listen to people's advice after explaining stuff and getting proper terminology from them (or even just listening to others say it), you'll pick it up in no time!
Leave it to the USAF to demand a method of refueling that REQUIRES the pilot to be at the mercy of some big fat plane, instead of pilots being at the mercy of something they know about, namely, turbulence.

Do you regularly fly with viewers in DCS? I've been learning here and there, and I've joined up with an online group that plays quite regularly. Still, I'm trying to experience as many different perspectives as possible. To that end, if you do fly with viewers I'd love to know how I'd go about getting into that.

I am always scared of going on radio since I have no f clue how to speak like a pilot.
Don't be! Ralfidude has a fantastic basic radio comms tutorial, check it out and go practice! Mediocre radio comms are 100x better than no radio comms. If you tell people you're new, people will be really lenient and help you. Every once in a while you get an asshole, but in my experience they get shamed immediately for such conduct.
There are places to learn, and if you don't know you can just ask! The "talk like a pilot" stuff is all brevity to keep the comms clear as much as possible. As long as you try and do that and listen to people's advice after explaining stuff and getting proper terminology from them (or even just listening to others say it), you'll pick it up in no time!
