    Also work Magical Mystery Tour the song should be included because according to Mark Lewishon it was the last track worked on before SPLHCBand release. Now there are those who say MMTour is really next EP. But IMHOpinion if something was worked on in 1967 it should be part of bigger set 1967

    A program by Howard Goodall exploring Sgt Pepper was shown on the BBC this week. Well worth a watch if you can get access to it. Goodall is classically trained and is incredibly knowledge about music.
    Howard Goodall says: “Whatever music you like to listen to, if it was written after 1 June 1967 then more likely than not it will have been influenced, one way or another, by Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The record’s sheer ambition in its conception, composition, arrangements and ground-breaking recording techniques sets it apart from others of the time. It’s a landmark in 20th century music, and I’ve hugely enjoyed exploring the story behind the music.”

    The reason they are "out of order" is because they are all in order from recording date. Strawberry Fields was first.

      Ahhhhh. Thank you for that. :) .........I still wish that they had put them in album order though LOL

      The idea is that you follow the Beatles making the album. It's says it even on the box.

      Yes, this is what i was going to write, the order which appears on the super deluxe box set is cronologically according to the recording sessions, which i think is as interesting as the order of the album displayed in the second cd of the 2cds set. if you read the famous Mark Lewhison book "the complete Beatles recording sessions" the order of the recording sessions in the sgt pepper chapter is the same as the order in the super deluxe edition box set

    The mellotron and guitar in the 1st verse of Strawberry Fields were so prominent in the version I listened to (mono?), I used to think the bass had a repeating echo on it, but it was probably bass notes on the mellotron (a word that spellchecker doesn't understand, come on).
    I would listen to that part over and over and I would envision a time-lapse shot of a flower blooming every time. Yes, marihuana (another word that spellchecker doesn't get, come on) was involved.

    great thoughts.
    one thing that really stood out to me on the instrumental (pre-vocal) tracks was what a tight, solid rhythm section they were. some great grooves.

    Again the Beatles prove that they are great musicians . Nothing is for sure , experimenting , feeling and searching for the best note , beat , break etc . And so much to Discover for the listener as Well . Such a great joy for me , and i Will keep listen

    After listening to All of the WHITE ALBUM tracks its my opinions, that all of both this boxset and the White Album sessions should have been cut to LPs and or tape because that’s how people listened to music back in the day. People should be able to assemble their own Pepper or whatever

    and
    She's Leaving Home (First Mono Mix)

    I don't believe that the laugher in the hum session has anything to do with the laugher in Within You Without You. I believe the laugher in Within You Without You comes from the Indian musicians. But they do sound a bit similar!

    I'll have to correct one little thing. Giles indeed remastered and remixed Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane in 2015. This version of Penny Lane is however a brand new 2017 remix while Strawberry Fields Forever remains the same! :)

    Nice - hey TJR - I love your reviews on albums, but speaking of The Beatles, I would love for you to someday do a video on the differences between the original "Let It Be" album release, and the "Let It Be...Naked" remix or other various versions. Thanks!

    • @TJRtheOriginal
      @TJRtheOriginal  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great idea...Thanks.

    • @whoffkne
      @whoffkne 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure. I really love the Naked version and there were so many production issues with that album as it was - it could make for some interesting discussion and coverage. Thanks!

    • @TJRtheOriginal
      @TJRtheOriginal  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you refer to production issues: Are you referring to the recording of Let It Be in general, or production issues involved with producing the "Naked" album?

    • @whoffkne
      @whoffkne 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      TJR I wS referring to the original production, when Phil Spektor was brought in, and so on. I don't know much about any production issues with the Naked version, or if there was any, but I know I had read that George preferred the Naked version and said it was how the album was meant to sound, or so I had heard.

    • @whoffkne
      @whoffkne 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That story of George must be wrong now that I think about s he died in 2001 and the album came out in 2003, so there is that. Haha. I do know that Paul is the one that wanted some kind of remix done after though. I really enjoy it as I feel that the original Let it Be album is by far the weakest album since before Help or earlier in their catalog.

    There's no chance on Earth that a deluxe version of "Magical Mystery Tour" will be released. I understand they're working on the White Album next, but after that...who knows if they'll release any other deluxe albums. I'm pretty sure most all of the interesting deluxe tracks prior to Pepper were released on the Anthology. Would you really want to sit through a deluxe version of the "Get Back/Let It Be" sessions? One of the main reasons something like this super deluxe set was released is because each take of "Strawberry Fields" is interesting, as is "Penny Lane" and at least half of Disc 2 on this set. (I haven't heard disc 3, yet.) Track 26 of "Strawberry Fields Forever" sounds like the greatest thing they ever recorded. There's just so much in there. I can't imagine that too many of their other releases would be both different enough and cool enough to warrant one of these kinds of sets.

    The "Take 1" of "Strawberry Fields Forever" here is a different mix from the Anthology version, in that (among other things) the incredible backing vocal harmonies, which were inexplicably left out by George Martin, have been restored, making this perhaps the best Beatles out-take of all.

      Why dont they let the two remaining BEATLES get more input ??? We never get their opinions much

    The super deluxe box is beautifully done. I expected Apple to go all out and put out an archival collection worthy of The Beatles and their groundbreaking album. I think they succeeded.

    The old stereo Sgt Pepper always bugged me with it's lead vocals coming out of one channel, this stereo remix is a 100% improvement on that version. I will say though that the mono and the old stereo versions must always be available and never should the remix usurp it in anyway, that would be rewriting history and that should never happen. A few years back Paul McCartney remixed his Tug Of War album and that was a lovely new mix and to hear it in a slightly different way was fantastic, but I still love the original mix and that again should always be available and not deleted in favour of a remix. I think the White Album remix will be another sonic improvement and I can't wait to hear it.

    According to “The Beatles Recording Sessions,” the laughter on 'Within You Without You', came “courtesy of the Abbey Road sound effects collection, ‘Volume 6: Applause and Laughter.’” However, George Martin’s book “Summer Of Love” explains this snippet as The Beatles laughing after an unknown take during the “Sgt. Pepper” sessions. - hat tip: beatlesebooks

    thanks for the excellent review.
    I think you are dead right about only listening to most of this stuff once for curiosity value. these were never meant to be heard by the public and should have stayed in the vaults imho.

      I realize that these tracks are not for everybody, but I am glad that they have been released and that I got to hear them. And while I won't listen to them all the time, I will pull them out now and again (every couple of years) and listen to them.

    Since you have a shiny new turntable now, I suggest a comparison between the vinyl and cd versions of the remixed Sgt. Pepper's album.

      Gary Chase well both come from the same digital sound files so I'm guessing the vinyl might have a little less top end but on the whole similar in sound.
