Used to do a lot of Tarpon(Sabalo in spanish) fishing in Puerto Rico back in my youth, early to mid senventies;very fond memories.Used to catch them with old "Mirrolures"which were sold in just about every sport section in dept.stores, also with jigs, sardines(bottom feeding).Very tough fighting game fish, they make very spectacular leaps to get rid of the hook,i think the biggest one i caught was around 75 lbs.,which is a medium size one,but hey ,i was using a hand line, not bad!
Tarpon is a purely sport fish, the meat is not great and it has bones in just about every part of the fish;just enjoy catching "Silver King",it makes a very unforgettable fishing experience!!
