This my first time ever using a fly rod and going fly fishing, not bad for a first trip but still got a lot to learn! Saw some beast trout that wouldn't eat! Good times!!
Not trying to be critical ... tryin' to help ya. Get that tip down on the water and pointed at the fish, then strip the fly. With the tip way up in the air you've got about 5 feet of slack line to deal with ... might not seems that way, but true. And don't pull the fly thru the water with the rod. Can't get a solid hookset that way. Strip-strike is key. Yes, you caught a red ... but how many hits did you get ? You might have caught a lot more. Keep at it.
