It's always such a joy to watch you do your thing... The whole experience with the sounds of the engine and the flowing turns... Coupled with the scenery is absolutely mesmerizing. You're Inspiring Jess and myself to head out to our twistie roads and make a schaaf video!
Man you got my utmost respect for riding a CB500 like that! Just never go that much further where you're not absolutely comfortable with the bike or the terrain. Keep safe!
I really cant understand how can be people not liking this What a road what a ride and that sound of the pegs scraping just tops it off And the scenery is always mind blowing Great video Thumbs up
awesome video as always! i have been riding my first motorcycle(honda cbf 125) for a month now and all i can say is : riding is awesome! i love going a little bit fast in the twysties, even though i'm not your kind of fast!
I'm really hoping the bremsfinger gets its own show this winter :D I actually learn riding technique from your vids (I know you'll say you're not the best rider or you don't things that aren't correct) but I try and imagine your thought process and analysis of the road and the crisp audio gives me the engine tone. Always good to see another rider's perspective :)
hahaha thanks for providing some potential inspiration with the finger idea ;) Don't worry, a couple of things I'm still doing wrong can't really be seen on video anyway ;) Really glad to read this, Finn!
thanks a lot Robocop! :D Just use the time until you can ride again in some different way. Apparently you can still operate a computer? I think you should go for some hardcore editing sessions ;) I want to see some BDC goodness!
ahahahahaha you killed me with robocop ! Nice answer ! :P Yes my fingers still are mooving pretty good so i can work on some new edits :D The new BDC is coming soon i'm working hardly on it and ..... you know what just stay tuned :p ! I'm excited about that brand new video ahahaha :)
Grues
Excelent ridding skills! I also have one (but the cbf500 version from 2004) but i can't ride like that! I believe that even experienced riders with more powerfull bikes would struggle to keep with you.
LG
The title is good don't worry. You really do like downhill roads, your riding is more fluid apart from the odd twitch which you mention and anyone can have these (like you say "the more you ride the better the confidence") If you don't want to put footage on YT because you're not happy with it then don't put it on keep it for yourself to learn from or just enjoy bits of it ! Whatever video you present to us is always good and welcome and i thank you for that. I'm hoping to get a couple of short 30 to 50 mile rides in before winter (yes you do forget about pain when riding, that's why i ride!!) because I have to strip the engine rite down and put in new rings, valve seals, cam chain and a fare few more bits and then rebuild the entire engine so i'd rather do it in bad weather than good. Enjoy yourself and ride safe.
Awesome as usual, and there was a looooooong ass scrape in this vid! :D Always good to hear that rough sound! (although too much of it could mean bad things....) Thank you for sharing Schaaf, ride safe! I hope to be able to do a quick ride to Vienna next summer, in which case I'll be sure to contact you! :)
I loooooove these raw videos!! So exhilarating to watch, and always learning from your lines. The views aren't half bad either ;D would love to come to Austria one day and experience some of these stunning mountain roads =)
Your rides / vids are always such fun to watch. Stupid people hitting that dislike button are just jealous and / or overly critical. I also learn a lot watching your lines through the curves...my line going into a left-bender is horrible. lol. This was fantastic...again! :)
Always Fun 2 Watch !!! ;) & though, I like the Option... I always watch the 'slow bits'... Since I enjoy the Views U travel & I can catch my breath !!! LOL... Nice that u left room for the cyclist & those 'Gauge Icons' Doh !!!
tehehe thanks so much brother! I hope I can finally attend some riding technique lessons next season in order to further improve myself! Have you ever watched "Twist of the Wrist?
yes! :) I can recommend (sound-wise) the following brands: Leo Vince, Takkoni, Giannelli. Heard these 3 on CB500s in person and they all sound very good!
Komplettanlage oder Slip-on?
Schaaf On your video there is a sign that says Greith it about 6:09 into your vid.. I couldn't find it anywhere I thought that you would know.. Great vid Schaaf..
Hi, i have left comments a few times on your vids and have been watching your vids even longer.. my question is how many years of riding experience do you have? And on average how many km's do you ride each year? Greetings from Holland -SillyRide
cheers from Austria! This is my 6th season on the CB500, she's my first and only motorcycle so far. I've covered ~35.000km. The last two years I rode less than 5000km each season :(
I loved motorcycles my entire life and this was the first season i had a bike and rode on it for about 8000 km until now (2 months). I also started making videos;) i was just wondering how long it would take for me to drive like you do ;)
Schaaf kannst behalten, weil i fahr jetzt mit´m rollator. naja - zumindest gelacht hab i a paarmal - i find die inserts recht amüsant, weil sonst is die onboard-filmerei schon a bisserl inflationär. die lenker-strassen-ansicht hat auf die dauer irgendwie a bisserl was von egoshooter...
Da lernt man dann zwangsläufig recht schnell ;) Sieh dir das da mal an: Quickshifting without clutch - Schalten ohne Kupplung
I laughed out loud when 'dickachu' appeared. Here I was about to ask what tyre sizes are on your honda but your walk around popped up so I'm off to watch it but what rubber are you running? Great as always mate very scenic
***** it's not separable but there are ways to mount the whole thing to the chest or helmet with the GoPro's handle bar mounts. I just never took the time to experiment a little. Maybe in winter ;)
I think there's something wrong with my CB500 - the pegs don't scrape and it doesn't go nearly as quick as yours! Oh no wait, it could be the rider. :)
Heeeeeeeeello friend ! I was scrolling through your videos ( Almost watched all of em ! ahah) and I was wondering : What is the power of you CB 500F of 1994 ? Because in france when you start riding you're obliged to ride a motorcycle which do not exceed 35 Kw. SO I was wondering if the CB 500F 1994 can be restricted to this power ? Sam Moto thanks Sam! Indeed! Gravity is my best friend ;) Borgfeld Rider Riding uphill can be more fun because it's just a lot easier than going downhill in my opinion. But when it comes to "my feelings" riding downhill is just more intense. It's much harder to overcome one's fears and to stay relaxed on the bike while going down the hill. That's why the reward is so much bigger every time I manage to do it. "To let go" and just ride the way I wish to. Feels incredible.
Schaaf I think going downhill is rather out of my comfort zone for now but you're right, it's must be awesome feeling when you manage to overcome your fears. Great riding Schaaf!
Hello Schaaf. How many km does the CB have? I was thinking of buying one and you look like you ride alot so I guess what I'm asking is, is it ok to buy a CB500 with 50000 km on it for example.
I'd prob poo myself a bit, but I want there! Once I know the road and bends, I'm fine, but first time I go on a new twisty road I'm a little chicken :>
You should check out some of RoadcraftNottingham 's videos - really educational about lines and riding roads for the first time. Always best to take it easy and feel it out - I'm no expert but has served me well!! =)
Just had my first lesson riding a motorcycle and i found it difficult getting the bike into the corners and getting the right lines through the corners. Do you always use counter steering to get the bike into the corner? Even on low speeds?
sorry Erik I can't really answer this questions. I've been counter-steering without knowing what counter-steering actually is. Which means I ride whichever way it FEELS right to me but I don't really have a "technique". I just focus on staying relaxed and let the rest happen automatically. But actually you can see quite clearly in my onboard videos whenever I do counter-steering and when I don't.
Schaaf Thanks for the advise! I ride on a Kawasaki ER6n which isn't the lightest bike so I guess that has something to do with it. I guess it just comes with more experience... I'll keep practicing :)
Schaaf its worth looking up counter steering its really gives you more understanding and confidence , i have a cb 500 and lack the confidence to scape the pegs , but you seem to do it with ease ? any advice ?
tonythatjesusloves Look at the video again and you'll see that I, like I said, do counter-steer. I just haven't informed myself yet about the laws of physic involved that's what I've meant with I don't understand it.
Schaaf you are a naturally good rider , but i think youll be amazed , and understand what you are doing instinctively and it will make you even better there are several good explanations and demonstration videos on YT , any way nice riding , you rock
tonythatjesusloves you dont have to be informed about a technique you use. riding a bike only works with countersteering there is no other technique and i guess Schaaf does not have to be informed about. he is riding well. Schaaf woher kommst du? vlt ergibt sich mal was, für ne tour.
Just a quick question from a new rider. An instructor told me it's not good to chop your throttle or make any abrupt changes such as changing gears during a turn? What exceptions are there that you do it anyway? Thanks!
I started watching you before riding any bike at all - now, after one season of riding I appreciate and admire your skills even more :)

Keep safe!
thanks Xamber!! I felt perfectly comfortable with the speed and lean! Everyone's living in their very own reality ;)))
Schaaf Lol you got that right!
I really cant understand how can be people not liking this
What a road what a ride and that sound of the pegs scraping just tops it off
And the scenery is always mind blowing
Great video
Thumbs up
thanks for another awesome comment, Sam!!! :)
Thanks for sharing Schaaf , Austria is a heaven for motorcycles
thank YOU for sharing!
klasse vid, wie immer. Daumen hoch für Schaaf
Daumen hoch für deinen Kommentar!
awesome video as always! i have been riding my first motorcycle(honda cbf 125) for a month now and all i can say is : riding is awesome! i love going a little bit fast in the twysties, even though i'm not your kind of fast!
we all started slow! Don't leave your comfort zone on public roads! The only important thing is that YOU enjoy it!! Thank you!
Schaaf Well said, good advice for all new riders.
Schaaf! Weneed to aatack those roads together
Fools! I told you my little Honda needs to see the ocean though hahahaha
That was spirited, wow. Amazing road and riding there. Those 500s can fly in the right hands.
thanks a lot man :)
I'm really hoping the bremsfinger gets its own show this winter :D I actually learn riding technique from your vids (I know you'll say you're not the best rider or you don't things that aren't correct) but I try and imagine your thought process and analysis of the road and the crisp audio gives me the engine tone. Really great riding mate. Makes me feel bad for having a bigger bike but being much slower than you. ;)
no need to feel bad about your riding speed mate! Thank you!

yes! :) I can recommend (sound-wise) the following brands: Leo Vince, Takkoni, Giannelli. Heard these 3 on CB500s in person and they all sound very good!
loved it, scrap scrap... pop pop :), beautiful road though and sooooo empty!

jo eh - besser als mitm spatzi spielen...do kriegt ma nur pickerte händ´... :D :D
Ansonsten mal wieder Top-Video!! :)

Just makes me want to get out and ride!! AND get a noisier pipe! :D
go for it ;)
Good stuff as always. BTW is that a worm with a face that's on ur logo or a turd......
a turd obviously!
I laughed out loud when 'dickachu' appeared. Here I was about to ask what tyre sizes are on your honda but your walk around popped up so I'm off to watch it but what rubber are you running? Great as always mate very scenic
thanks a lot Goose! Dickachu for president!
Do the authorities take a serious attitude toward showing speed and whatnot over there?
***** I honestly don't know. I'll just keep on doing these vids as long as I can :)
please do I like em.can you separate your gimbal from the pole to mount it on your chest when you do these vids?
***** it's not separable but there are ways to mount the whole thing to the chest or helmet with the GoPro's handle bar mounts. I just never took the time to experiment a little. Maybe in winter ;)

So I'd like to ask, are there some 47.5 bhp max (restrictions..) motorcyle you would suggest me ?
Friendly,
I'd recommend to ride a 35bhp CB500 :)
Fair enough I also think it's the best choice :))
Stupid question :) You prefer to ride uphill or downhill on mountain road like this?
i think no 1 rely likes to ride downhill ... uphill FTW ... better control ...
horizontal120 of course you are right, but it seems to me that Schaaaaaf do not give a fuck - is it uphill or downhill ;)
Borgfeld Rider im pretty sure he said he prefers downhill since it makes his bike faster
Sam Moto thanks Sam! Indeed! Gravity is my best friend ;) Borgfeld Rider Riding uphill can be more fun because it's just a lot easier than going downhill in my opinion. english please!
Cat ate my speed counter!
Hello Schaaf. How many km does the CB have? I was thinking of buying one and you look like you ride alot so I guess what I'm asking is, is it ok to buy a CB500 with 50000 km on it for example.
something between 70.000 and 80.000kms! Yea, 50K kms are no big problem! You can easily ride more than 100K with a CB500
thanks alot :)
Hahaha I lold so hard when that cat appeared xD
:D
which is the maximum speed of the 2 and 3 gear of your bike?
2nd close to 100kph and 3rd bit more than 140kph
I'd prob poo myself a bit, but I want there!
Once I know the road and bends, I'm fine, but first time I go on a new twisty road I'm a little chicken :>
ah that sounds kinda reasonable though :) Thanks G!
You should check out some of RoadcraftNottingham 's videos - really educational about lines and riding roads for the first time. Always best to take it easy and feel it out - I'm no expert but has served me well!! =)
the popping ? running to lean or ?
normal with an aftermarket exhaust
Why don't you use your Clutch on Up-Shift? Can't that cause damage?
because it's a lot faster and it sounds better :) not if you're doing it right.
that's cool. how do you do it right - change at a certain point in rpm?
MeLTeD FlaME it's all done "by instinct" - there are great tutorials on TH-cam though, just look for them!! :)
Schaaf thanks for your replies. i really love all your videos, and your skills on the cb500. have a nice life, be safe, and keep riding :).
mmmm nice , what tyres do you use , brighstones ? do you understand counter-steering ?
thanks! Yea, Bridgestone BT45! I don't understand it I just do it apparently!
Schaaf
its worth looking up counter steering its really gives you more understanding and confidence , i have a cb 500 and lack the confidence to scape the pegs , but you seem to do it with ease ? any advice ?
tonythatjesusloves Look at the video again and you'll see that I, like I said, do counter-steer. I just haven't informed myself yet about the laws of physic involved that's what I've meant with I don't understand it.
Schaaf
you are a naturally good rider , but i think youll be amazed , and understand what you are doing instinctively and it will make you even better there are several good explanations and demonstration videos on YT ,
any way nice riding , you rock
tonythatjesusloves you dont have to be informed about a technique you use. riding a bike only works with countersteering there is no other technique and i guess Schaaf does not have to be informed about. he is riding well. Schaaf woher kommst du? vlt ergibt sich mal was, für ne tour.
People call me Turbo,,,, Schaaf.. you're going to have to use another cool name LOL!
Schaaf is more than cool enough ;)
Schaaf AHAHhaa. yes sir..
Schaaf what is your jacket?
from a brand called "Streetfighter" - it was sold at the local Louis shops and this model is not getting produced any longer :/
your leovince exhaust, has the db killer?
yes
Oh thank you
Just a quick question from a new rider. An instructor told me it's not good to chop your throttle or make any abrupt changes such as changing gears during a turn? What exceptions are there that you do it anyway? Thanks!
It's not a big deal with a bit of sensitivity in your hands and feet on a low powered bike like the CB500!
Schaaf Maybe it would matter if your riding a 110 bhp bike but 50 bhp not so much lol
matthew wilson that was exactly what I was saying.
Sorry i meant to reply to the original comment xD
matthew wilson lol no worries^^
immer dieser Bremsfinger :D
