THE END OF LIFE IN THE UNIVERSE
The comments here are just further proof of the egocentric nature of human beings .... the end of life on this planet doesn't necessarily mean "the end of life in the universe" and is not any particular tragedy. We are not any more important than the chemicals that made us.
Look at how we treat each other and our resources. We burn through everything as fast as possible in the name of profit for a few greedy turds and then they spend all of their time and energy trying to steal it from each other.
Evolution has been an experiment gone wrong.
The universe doesn't need us anymore than we need a galaxy on the other side of the universe. Everything moves on to its ultimate end.

The thing is we don't know how life will adapt and evolve around these challenges in the future. There have been numerous cataclysmic events during Earth's history, but in the end, life always bounced back and thrived after that. Sure when the time comes for the sun to become a red giant and scorches Earth, there really will be nothing to be done about that. But before that life may find new ways around these challenges and still thrive while still having the planet. New ways of conserving or acquiring energy for plants and animals may be created by nature that we just don't know yet, because there has been no need or push for life to go in that direction. From the great oxidation, to Snow Ball Earth, climate changes and meteor strikes, in the end life always adapted to new conditions, so how do we know that in 250 million years ahead the same thing won't happened and evolve to endure the harsher conditions?

"....before we self-destruct ourselves" is the most accurate concept you have offered here. Even if we were to manage it, do you really think we wouldn't just go to the next environment and do the same thing?
I don't think you meant it in this context but you hit it on the head - the "priority" you mention - "winning wars" is the major reason the era of "Humanity", as you put it, will not continue. We are the ultimate example of self destruction.
