    Worked on a chapel roof in Kilmersdon in the early 80's when there were still goods trains running on this line....nice to see it running on line, thanks

    I remember taking 34081 on this line in TS and just slipping like hell...
    It was fun.

    I believe Frome may be pronounced Froom. The town along the Berks and Hants cutoff is certainly pronounced that way.

      I think you're right as I vaguely remember hearing this before. I forgot when making this video and pronounced it how it looks like it should be pronounced lol :p

      +PTGRail No worries, Norwich, Happisburgh and Manea always used to catch me out until someone corrected me over their respective pronunciations.

      'froom' like 'broom'

    I like seeing these short 20-30 minute routes. Probably the main reason is the length of time is similar to a route I usually take, although regrettable usually on a class 142.

    • @PTGRail
      @PTGRail  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I quite like this journey length too. And I would personally quite enjoy travelling on a Pacer! Haven't been on one for years lol.

  • @PhilPreen

    12:15 There's no way that bus would have got round over that bridge at that speed!

    • @PTGRail
      @PTGRail  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might be right on that. I just had a look myself, and it did seem a bit on the quick side.

    • @PhilPreen
      @PhilPreen 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There was a car down in that cutting a couple of months ago, misjudged that bend. Another hazard for train drivers to be aware of!

    • @anthonyheaton5798
      @anthonyheaton5798 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What was it doing there anyway?

    • @PhilPreen
      @PhilPreen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anthonyheaton5798 The road does a sharp double bend to cross over from one side of the cutting to the other. We live right by there so I know it well. There have been a number of accidents where a car has not seen the bend and ended up down in the cutting. It hasn’t been so bad recently since they improved the signage and redid the white lines.

    Excellent video, I've been going back through your page and I'm enjoying your work. I'd love to see some more freight, maybe a class 70 on a container train from Felixstowe to the North London Line?

    • @PTGRail
      @PTGRail  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I am considering covering another freight journey at some point soon. I know I've neglected freight operations as I generally prefer passenger driving to freight driving. But more will come in the near future :)

    • @Slug901
      @Slug901 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +PTGRail There's a bit more variety with passenger diagrams, though with a 75mph freight diagram it'd be a welcome change :)

  • @bsian03
    @bsian03 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Approx 11:00 Haha no worries - I have the 3rd rail version by Danny, and stopping there with the class 456 on full service still causes the train to roll back ridiculously slowly!

    • @bsian03
      @bsian03 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      13:19 Also sorry to be 'annoying' but the 'W' board is for the level crossing, and I find if stopping at Mells Road that there won't be any point on sounding until leaving the station... Just something that I find unnecessary for stopping trains

    • @PTGRail
      @PTGRail  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, I shall bear that in mind. I released the brakes there a bit too much I think :p

      I noticed afterwards but by then I'd already sounded the horn lol :p

      @@PTGRail the line used to extend beyond Radstock via some lovely countryside, and across a spectacular 16 arch viaduct at Pensford, to Bristol Temple Meads.

    What about the returnjourney in the Thumper?

  • @hoagy_ytfc
    @hoagy_ytfc 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Are some of the stations fictional? I've checked maps of varying vintage and only see Radstock, Mells Road, and Frome (not Frome Market).

    • @PTGRail
      @PTGRail  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a railway which once existed but was later closed. There are now proposals to reopen the line between Radstock and Frome, and DTG partnered with the North Somerset Railway Company to create the line as they envisage it will look when reopened. The plan is to try and have the full branch opened by 2024, running it as both a heritage railway and a passenger service. I believe that some of these stations may be new stations which weren't there when the line was previously operational.

    • @hoagy_ytfc
      @hoagy_ytfc 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Thanks for the reply. I'm local to that part of the world - I was aware it's a now-closed line, and knew a bit (but not much) about hopes to re-open it.
      "I believe that some of these stations may be new stations which weren't there when the line was previously operational."
      That's kinda what I was getting at, as apart from Radstock and Mells Road, I couldn't find anything on the others.
      Thanks again.

  • @hexagon7895
    @hexagon7895 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also, apologies for being ridiculously pedantic, but you shouldn't put the train in gear for too long while stationary as the fluid coupling will overheat and the train can catch fire. Of course it won't do this in the game, unless this is the most realistic simulation of a Class 117 ever! 😉

    • @PTGRail
      @PTGRail  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, it's okay. You will notice that at each of the stops I put the gear into neutral and didn't go back into first gear until it was time to start. That's something I learned from you on my Class 105 video back in January. :)

    • @hexagon7895
      @hexagon7895 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I thought heritage railways had a speed limit of 25MPH?

    • @PTGRail
      @PTGRail  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In this case I think the plan is to be able to run at 40mph as this will jointly be a heritage railway and passenger partnership to run a normal passenger service along here.

      PTGRail the class 117 which is in this video is modeled on the 117 which the nsr owns which will have a central door locking system on it which will allow it to run above the 25mph limit as I believe
