1:23:22 the first house of the final terraced block on the right is my Aunty's house!!! My son loves staying there and watching the trains and we always used to wave to my Aunty on the train on the way home from Newport. This is really cool to see.
This train is good because it allows Network Rail to test the railway without any delays to other trains by running at a top speed of 125 MPH. Only on the WCML there can be light delays because it doesn't tilt, but it can run still at a pretty good speed of 110 there.
I have driven this scenario myself. It's a great scenario, and very well simulates what the NMT has to experiences... Although it runs non stop from point to point (apart from the odd goods loop) it still gets restricted to the relief lines between Didcot and Old Oak Common, with a driver change at Reading.
By far the best train sim videos on TH-cam. My local line is the Gainsborough line between Sudbury & Marks Tey, would be awesome if you covered it, although the line journey time is about 20 minutes long 😂
Great video! To answer your question on the use of the DRA, yes it's common practice to use the DRA whenever stopped at a red light. See Section 10 of the Rule Book for more info on the correct use of DRA - Search RSSB for GERM8000
Setting DRA is mandatory !...and failure to do so regarding a SPAD at the said signal(when departing against a red),is taken very seriously and can result in demotion (or worse!).
at 1:12:15 use to be my flat, back in around summer 2010, tornado stopped outside, had a malfunction, they brought up a class 47 from the rear, run it around and towed tornado and her coaches. also most nights, ews would park up outside, leave canadian locos, ticking over for hours, class 66, they had a bloody awful sounding at idle and at 3am in the morning, you just wanted to bang your head, against the wall, they were so loud. the upgraded gwr hst power cars, use to glide through. the whole section has now been electrified, with overhead pantograph cables, also with bridges raised, the freight liner, runs the freight yard. Ar 1:20:32 is caes newydd, new castle, or in english newport, this castle was complete and working as brains brewery in 1885, it suffered a mysterious fire, resulting in it burning just enough, to let the new railway line to be laid.... how handy was that!
between the 2 signals where you was slowing down and you saw s red signal on the right and your signal next to it was green so you could speed up to 100 well that first signal that was yellow did actually change to green as you passed so you didn't need to slow down, the signal that changed from yellow to green that I'm referring to was at the video time around the 27.54 mark on the video timer where you said that you had applied full service brake
I didn't notice the signal change, but even if I had I'm not sure it would have been safe to accelerate to 100, knowing that I was following another train.
Also fanning of the brake is not good practice. It's impossible when driving most trains to maintain exact speeds and in real life is not achievable or aimed at precisely!
Good video as always PTG but I have always wondered how do you remember the details (e.g. signal distance gradients etc.) do you have a notepad by you or is it pure memory?
It's a mixture of both. I do indeed have a notepad, but I don't always refer to it. I've already driven a route at least twice before I record it, sometimes more. The notes are more to prompt me for the commentary than anything else.
Good video again buddy, now cause I'm new to Train Simulator, have you done any videos on how to install custom content and stuff because I have no idea how to to be honest and I've only bought a couple of things off Steam which auto-installs anyway.
Hey did you know there's a Trainworks upgrade for this route too? Might be good for you as you used the Riviera Line one: trainworks.eu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=179&t=1941&sid=9d70ce290da920f7ac9e6ed9f261a93f
That's the DSD (Driver's Safety Device). It triggers an alarm if the driver hasn't moved the controls for 60s. The driver has 3s to cancel the alarm or there's a brake intervention.
51:00 Yes, always set the DRA when stood at any red signal, or at a location with a DRA reminder board. (source: I drive trains in real life)
Thanks for the info! How did I do with driving in this video? :)
Can't comment that much, didn't watch the whole video, nor do I sign HSTs (or drive that fast either).
Top Work Peter !

I really enjoyed this scenario because I feel it realistically simulates the NMT run along here.
It is indeed the River Usk in Newport.
They call this train the flying banana 🍌 ✈
Another video already! Wow your on a roll :D didn't expect it to be that quick!
Awesome video mate, your route learning videos have helped me with the morpeth boards, signal aspects and more... 😀
By far the best train sim videos on TH-cam. My local line is the Gainsborough line between Sudbury & Marks Tey, would be awesome if you covered it, although the line journey time is about 20 minutes long 😂
Haha, thanks! I do try ;)
Unfortunately the Sudbury branch hasn't been simulated so far.
Also another one to try out is 1B46 14:45 London Paddington to Swansea (BPW - SWA) with 43185 leading and 43002 trailing
if you press Shift + V, you can use the wipers on the camera on each end of the train
Great video! To answer your question on the use of the DRA, yes it's common practice to use the DRA whenever stopped at a red light. See Section 10 of the Rule Book for more info on the correct use of DRA - Search RSSB for GERM8000
Thanks for the info :)
The enhancement pack certainly sounds nice.
Great video. Yeah that was a hair raising stop on the the Red Light. You were running under 4 aspect signalling which is always closer together.
Just a bit closer than I realised! I'm glad that I managed to stop at least lol :p
Good video! I like how your explaining of when did the HST was built and how much speed can they go up! I think it is good
Another good one Peter your a bit like a bus nothing for a while then 2 close together keep them coming i always enjoy your videos.
Haha, I like that analogy Tony. I've got lots more to come over the summer. It's great to see you in the comments as always :)
Which notch of power do you depart swansea with please
Great to see more videos from you!
There's lots more coming from me this summer! :)
Great! Please could you do a journey from Preston to Windermere in a class 156/153 combo?
Thank you.
Is that route currently available?
PTGRail only in quick drive I think.
quick drive in West coast mainline
Another fine video, Peter. Many thanks.
Many thanks, Roger. It's good to see you in the comments! :)
yeah, great to have your videos again ;) I take it your uni is all broken up for the summer!
It has indeed. I'm now free until September, with a fair bit more free time to make some videos.
2:13 was that siren in the game or outside ur recording place
I can't wait for merseyrail. northern line especially

Omg two Videos in two days
Is it just me, or does the traction motor sound like the 321?
Great video
for some reason the buffers dont show up on the AP 43 :(
help
Southern Trainspotting you need WCML north for the buffers
Raygun 115829 Okay, Thanks!

Is there a way we can download these scenarios?
This scenario comes with the Class 43 MTU enhancement pack.
you should do a sleeper route because that would be verry intresting
agree like the Caledonian sleeper gwr sleeper
Very well made video!
Thank you :)

Is it calling at neath port talbot parkway Bridgend Cardiff central Newport
you should do Glasgow Central to london euston
Matthewthegamer 1956 there is no full WCML for train simulator
Oh ok
can u do that in 1 !
TheMadTrainSpotter I don't think TS will handle with such long route
ok I've got the Carlisle to Glasgow & Carlisle to preston & Stafford to Rugby but my fav route Edinburgh to Newcastle & 2nd York to Newcastle
when you did the aws self test sequence why did the speedometer shoot up?
I don't know
Tony Deeks it's just the speedometer calibrating itself... I think :)
Ive never seen it before on train sim thats all
Does it as part of the ATP system test to ensure it's functional and data is being received to the on-board computer
Missed ya mate !
Haha, thanks! :)
shit comment
The people who disliked this video are not thinking logically.
Good video again buddy, now cause I'm new to Train Simulator, have you done any videos on how to install custom content and stuff because I have no idea how to to be honest and I've only bought a couple of things off Steam which auto-installs anyway.
What sort of content are you looking to install?
PTGRail I want to have some of the Armstrong Powerhouse sound packs, custom scenarios to give me more to do and maybe reskins if there are any.
I saw one of these in my local station
Pencoed is pronounced with an "oi" as in oil, so it's pronounced Pen-coy-d 😁
Haha, thanks. I do struggle with pronunciations on occasion :p
do you know if anyone as made a workshop version of this scenario as it looks very interesting and I would love to have a go at it
Unfortunately I believe this is only available through the MTU enhancement pack from Armstrong Powerhouse.
You ones said that you will do the Berlin Leibzig route. Is this still your plan?
It certainly is, and it will be one of my next videos.
Keep up the good work.
You passed the 20MPH board at Cardiff Central at 25MPH and started slowing down near the end of the platform.
Pencoed = Pen coid
okay I have another request do the Abellio Greater Anglia route from Norwich to London Liverpool Street
Only London Liverpool Street to Ipswich is available for the game. The full line London Liverpool Street to Norwich is not available for the game.
that's so disappointing
Hey did you know there's a Trainworks upgrade for this route too? Might be good for you as you used the Riviera Line one: trainworks.eu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=179&t=1941&sid=9d70ce290da920f7ac9e6ed9f261a93f
Is this a reskin?
It is indeed, and it comes with the MTU enhancement pack from Armstrong Powerhouse.
how do you use the driver vigilance system
That's the DSD (Driver's Safety Device). It triggers an alarm if the driver hasn't moved the controls for 60s. The driver has 3s to cancel the alarm or there's a brake intervention.
why don't u ever put ur lights on in tunnels???
The lights are on, but they don't illuminate much in the tunnels.
Pencoed is pronounced Pen-"coid", so it rhymes with asteroid.
