All hail El Duce(r.i.p.) and the Mentors! Man, these guys always made me crack up! Sickie is such an amazing guitar player! They wore( still do!) executioner hoods because El Duce was a HUGE horror movie fan! Racists? Bullshit! They loved all kinds of women! Fat, skinny, black, white, ugly, hot...you name it!
yeah, they weren't racists - El Duce would fuck any chick that would let him. They had a Black Drummer for a long time because El Duce's drinking got so out of control that he couldn't drum anymore.
I started being a peeping tom in 3rd or 4th grade like 94 or 95 didn't hear this song until 01 must've listened to it for at least 3 hours straight love these guys man.
saw them twice about 87-89.. Once it was in a church on beacon hill rented out for the night by tony chu.. tony chu had the best shows in Seattle 85 90, half the time the fire department would show up and try to shut it down; then we'd riot. it was so much fun. they passed laws against it. look up gorilla gardens and the early Seattle metal/punk scene. i broke my nose there once.
Love this record. Those boys could really play before they fucked themselves up with drugs n booze so bad. Finally figured out the bass chorus part here, it's D flat pentatonic if you're trying to figure it out
In 1983, The Mentors released an album entitled Live at the Whisky A Go-Go/Cathay De Grande" which consisted of two live shows, one recorded at the Whisky A Go-Go and the other at the Cathay de Grande.
oh well there are 2 studio versions In 1983, The Mentors released an album entitled Live at the Whisky A Go-Go/Cathay De Grande" which consisted of two live shows, one recorded at the Whisky A Go-Go and the other at the Cathay de Grande.
My friend, Black Tom, turned me onto the Mentors and Ice T, when I was trying to blow his mind with my British picture disk of Fuck Like a Beast, Animal by W.A.S.P.
What do you mean? This is the first record. The lyrics are: "What's cool and understood, To Peep Tom around the neighborhood. I've got my spyscope, me and my band were high on dope. Yeah, I'm a Peeping, I'm a Peeping Tom. I'm a Peeping, I'm a Peeping Tom. This time I didn't wanna goof, I got my ass up on that roof. I looked and I saw, that woman take off her girdle and bra.Yeah, I'm a Peeping, I'm a Peeping Tom. I'm a Peeping, I'm a Peeping on your mom!
El Duce couldn't stay sober enough to be able to play drums at the same time. So they brought in drummer Rick Lomas (aka "Insect On Acid"), who was black.
Actually they brought in Moosedick in 1992 to play drums and Insect on Acid joined in 91, was a roadie and did background vocals (or more depending on El's condition.) Last time I saw El was on the 95 tour, he couldn't sing or play...but sure as hell could crack me up in the bathroom while a joint was goin around...
I saw the Mentors probably 20 times in the mid to late 80's and Sickie was never less than electrifying
Seen them at the Cathay de Grande back in 1982
Wow! Ever spoke to the band yourself?? Yeah, Sickie was - is - outstanding.
Did not expect their songs to be this catchy

I thought at one time they had a black drummer. Not 100% on that though! Google it.

Change the lyrics and make them more normal for the middle class, this might have been a hit.
Like many of their songs, sex slave, when youre horny, etc
But then it wouldn't be the Mentors.
when you’re hungry you’re hungry 🤣@@House_of_Data
