No double meaning here. They get what you hear. A sad song about a long life couple in which the wife dies and she feels it. She doesn't know how to tell him because she doesn't want to break his heart. later gets something like dementia and doesn't remember her anymore.
And the song is called "Fog (Nebel) because his brain erases all memories with dementia.
The song is not hidden, but on an album.

TomTomsen -- Well explained, Tom. I only disagree with your first sentence. Nearly all important words have a double meaning. The title Nebel (fog) stands for fog, but if you read the word from the end to the beginning it gives Leben (life). Das Meer (the Sea) stands for death, das Land for Leben (life). In between is the zone of the fog, i.e. the transit time between life and death. Abend in der Brust (evening in the chest) here means disease and end of life. The poem (song) is full of unusual German words, e.g. verleben. The direct meaning here is to die, to pass away, but this is an unusual use in German. Verleben is normally used in the opposite meaning, e.g. passing a good time together, etc.
It's a great poem, because nearly everything is named not directly, but in (uncommon) metaphors, open for and needing interpretation.

@@bernardoesperanto3194 This song does not have a double meaning, but winged words, also poetry, to circumscribe meanings. That's a difference.
Der Song hat keine doppelte Bedeutung, sondern das sind geflügelte Wörter, auch Poesie um Bedeutungen zu umschreiben. Das ist ein Unterschied.
Den Nebel stellvertretend für verlorene Erinnerungen einzusetzen, macht daraus keine doppelte Bedeutung. Es hat ein und dieselbe Bedeutung, nur poetisch umschrieben und im Kontext vom Rest des Songs, kann er auch nicht anders interpretiert werden.

What a song! Sounds stupid, but sometimes I have to remember family members, friends and partners i've lost in the past 50 years. Great song to get a little emotional and shed a tear.
    Thanks for your reaction!

A sad but beutiful song. Till has a way with words and succeeds to express feelings in a very unique way. You might dislike the super provocative side of him, but he's a very talented poet.

The song "Nebel" is a Homage to the Oscar winning film "Love Story" 1970 with with Ali MacGraw and Ryan O’Neal. If you reverse the word "Nebel" (fog) it means "Leben" (life) The song highlights the poignancy of life and death, of the brief but sweet moments shared before everything fades into fog. The haunting images of the woman's final moments before her death and the man's grief after she is gone are a powerful and heartbreaking message.

Good Hintergrund👍 But fog comes also in the minds of the couple he sings about. Again we have several layers in a Rammstein song 🤗

Bevel is such a sad and beautiful song and one of three that has lyrics written by Till that reminds me of my late father. He died of cancer almost three years ago but also had vascular dementia. He remembered the date of his first date with my mother and on the 50th anniversary of it, bought here a beautiful gold watch, but he couldn't remember whether he'd eaten half an hour ago. Both are heartbreaking conditions that take so much from the suffered and Till's writing rings so true. The music is so, so beautiful, it takes my breath away every time I hear it. Makes me so sad to remember my Dad this way, but that's how it was.

May your beloved father rest in peace, Fiona. It's inevitable, but losing a close relative always is very sad. Within 5 years I not only lost my father but also his two younger brothers, my uncles, then my mother's brother and all of sudden I became the oldest man in my family... this feeling is quite weird

The name of the title is a palindrome in german: Nebel- fog, but if you read it backwards is spells: Leben- life. Which gives away what the song is about. It's about life respectively the end of it. Beautiful sad lyrics, so well chosen words. And quite witty of Till and the band to choose this title.
    With love from Germany ❤

    "Nebel" means "fog" / "mist"
The word is a palindrome, read backwards it has another meaning: "Leben" means "to live" as well as "life". Which in my opinion makes the song all the more heavy in its topic.

A beautifull but sad ballad. They played this only a few times live on the Mutter tour. It would be awesome if they played this and other 'lost' gems (Spieluhr, Dalai Lama, Rosenrot, ...) on the next tour. Thanks for another great reaction.

I've got a few corrections to the lyrics translation.
The first two verses would better be:
    "They stand closely entangled.
A blend of flesh, so rich in days."
Also he does not sing "She knows that she must pass"! The correct, more subtle translation would be: "She knows that she must lose".
EDIT: I always heard it as "verlieren" (to lose). But some people commented that he might be singing "verleben". A very unusual, old word for dying. In that case, the "must pass" translation would be correct.
And since in the beginning Til sings "so rich in days" I think the couple is already old when she dies. The old man just does not remember this last kiss anymore because he is sliding off into dementia (the Fog = Nebel).

Two planets meet in space, one says: "Hey, what's wrong, you look like shit"!
