I just wrote a comment about being more determined to find the fix and you follow up with this insanely satisfying video! Amazing job and amazing consult from Paul Daniels! 💪💪
What an awesome fix well done to Paul and your community proving their worth once again. What an absolute result that Switch was too. Love it. Really enjoying this series Joey
Thanks to all of the chat for helping Joey on his journey. I bet he will remember all of this next time the problem arises, now that is how you learn. Congrats!
Shooooooo, won't lie, I was feeling really nervous and crossing fingers for that ps5 working. Really nice to see you get such support and success alongside the community and even sharing that knowledge and experience to help others in the electronics repair industry. Nice!
A fuse in my brain blew when you said you wished you was smarter making me feel a chimp as I was confused from start to finish but found it incredibly interesting 😅
Joey- Idea for an April Fools prank. Save the simplest repair you have ever found and upload an episode of Profit Or Loss with just that fix. Then on April 2nd post an actual video, and tell us that it was an April Fools joke.
The "fool" would be "I spent 1000 pounds on this Nintendo switch" . Then show something that has been run over by a truck, then mark it as a loss in the spreadsheet.
How you know when you should try to input low voltage to see possible short circuit with thermal camera? Why this technique wasn't used there? Thanks for answer
Hey @JoeyDoesTech nice vid, as always I am very impressed by your dedication to knowledge and work!! I just thought: have you made a spreadsheet with the different kind of repairs by models that you have made so far? Relating each solution you found to the video of the series so that if another pro or even just a tinker sometimes ask you "hey how do you do that fix ..." you could just send him straight to the video where you already did the work and found the solution! You now have quite the series so I think it would defo be useful no?
do you need to push so hard when measuring voltages? surely just resting enough for contact should be enough, im not an eletrical engineer but it just looks rough with the marks left behind after you measure things.
Joey, I cant remember if you sold the last PS5 that had that problem but would it be possible to go back to it and try the same thing? You might get yourself another sale.
inject voltage (about 1 to 2 volts ... with 2,3 amps) at the short and watch with thermal camera to find the shorted component, the shorted components gets hot ... if not raise the current little by little till the faulty component shows itself. it's so easy...
I don't think I'd consider it as "so easy" as you risk damaging other components injecting voltage at such low resistance as far as I'm aware. As always, I could be wrong :)
I though if you set the voltage below the max V of the component (around 1,3-1,5V for APU) there is no risk at damaging because the APU can easily take a lot of current..
@@muhkuh5804 it comes down to what else could be potentially on the circuit. Classic sort of example is people putting (trying to) many-volts in to a PPBUS of a Macbook trying to find a short only to end up destroying the CPU/GPU because the highside CPU VREG MOSFET was shorted resulting in the full many-volts going in to a device that only wants ~1V. Certainly preferrable to try deduce by more passive testing, and if injection required I like to start at 0v5 and 1A at most, maybe going up to 1V 2A depending on what I'm dealing with ( to be fair, if it's shorted then your DCPSU shouldn't be showing more than 0.3~0.5V in most cases before the current limit kicks in )
-- Spoiler Saver What a nice episode. First one was really lucky and the second one was really challenging but you mastered it! Sith a little help but you did, so more for your knowledge. Thanak you for the good entertainment.
PLD the Australian magician. Because I'm so dumb but curious, would it be possible to get an explanation to what the MOSFET is meant to do in future fixes?
I cannot believe that person didn't check brightness settings before selling the nintendo switch as faulty. I really hope they did not see this video and truly believe it to be faulty to this day.
Jeeeze didn't even get myself comfy and in my sloth position and you already got a fix done haha poor seller watching this video 😅 u win some you lose some

It was a business seller with over 10,000 items sold on eBay, however I did reach out and inform the company that if they had these in the future, they could just increase the brightness.

This one was so enjoyable! Even masters can learn sometimes, great work!
Paul Daniel's better be VIP in that chat for that
Hi mate. Love the videos. What’s the best way into learning about fixing motherboards and soldering etc? Is there a course you can do?
Thanks

To be fair this repair couldn't have been any easier
People will see the video is only 1m long …
The "fool" would be "I spent 1000 pounds on this Nintendo switch" . Then show something that has been run over by a truck, then mark it as a loss in the spreadsheet.
Just a thought from watching your previous videos, should you not try and boot into safe mode first before taking it apart?
perhaps using a stiff (tooth?) brush for cleaning that foam could help?
They are mosfets, if you don't short them first your readings can vary depending on it's state.
It would be nice to see you try different devices
There are others on my channel if you dig enough :)
Great video Joey!
I always watch these the morning they come out with my cup of coffee. Waiting for him to get past his 1000£ goal haha
Do you know the old school freeze spray trick for finding the issue?
How you know when you should try to input low voltage to see possible short circuit with thermal camera? Why this technique wasn't used there? Thanks for answer
What headset is that? BTW loving your videos
You owe Paul a beer I reckon!
Well done with the ps5 repair 😊

Great question, sometimes a little bit of a push is needed due to the factory flux surrounding the IC, otherwise you don't get the connection :)
We can all always learn something new, knowledge can be learnt to ur life ends

What about scratching the board when removing the paste?
What is that blue paste? I hear Viscous Paste but I don't know if that's right. Is it a thermal spreader in paste form?
Video live fantastic stuff always a great notification to get

I feel bad for the person who returned that Nintendo Switch.
will you post that first switch as refurbished? you didn't exactly refurbish it lol probably could just say used
Is there anything Paul Daniels can't diagnose?
I'm so glad I've never bought a PS5 or the new XBox!! MY Ps4 is doing just Fine! I'll wait for the new Nintendo:)

Why did Nintendo give you the option to turn the screen down all the way to can't see shit anyway?
You can if it's pitch black and you're playing at night.
This has turned into Nintendo Switch quick fixes channel 🤣
Ever thought about fixing some PS5 controllers with stick drift?
You should pay paul some money 😊

i wish you would use plastic instead of metal tweezers as you are poking around, scratching everything! lol
