The Making of the Rugrats Movie, recorded off Network Ten, Australia on 3rd April 1999. Sorry, but I have not edited out the commercials and the last 30 seconds of the program were cut off.
Fun fact: While Tara Strong was recording scratch dialogue for Dil, her impression of a baby crying sounded so accurate that it caused a woman in the recording room who had recently had a baby to start lactating.

Dude, this is actually really cool. I actually like seeing the old commercials in these specials. There was a Blind Melon documentary from 2001 that had the commercials in between and that was cool. And this being from Australia makes it just as interesting. So, good on you. Also RIP Jack Riley.
Love how this includes these old commercials, from the 90s I'm assuming. Idk I'm just fascinated with all this shit they had to do to pull it off. It's honestly amazing, props to EVERYBODY in there. 👍
How about if Nickelodeon can release a special extended edition for Blu-Ray and 4K Ultra HD containing the theatrical cut (widescreen only) and extended edition with the 2 deleted songs (widescreen only). Other bonus features include the making of the movie (like you said), the "Take me there" music video, and the 2 "CatDog" cartoons, "Fetch!" and "Winslow's Home Videos".

This movie scared me when I was a kid. It seemed much darker than the other Rugrats movies and specials- but that makes me enjoy it more now that I'm older

Recently, I tried to find an old VHS copy of this in my house that I hadn't watched in nearly 13 years. I don't know if it's lost or I threw it out, but I was so bummed when I couldn't find it when I wanted to watch it again.
oh man, new episodes of the nanny!!! lol, amazing vid by the way. it helps me see how the animation process really is, for i am soon to be an animator! so i have to learn alot. thanks again. LONG LIVE RUGRATS!!!!!
Lil’s reaction after Phil finished eating the bug and looking happy about it was funny. It was also funny when Didi put the binky in Stu’s mouth while he was crying with Dil.
remembering all of this makes me disappointed at how nickelodeon went from awesome to awful over the years. in the 1990s, nickelodeon was the awesomest channel ever, it was impossible to find even one little thing to complain about. in the mid-2000s, the channel started losing its quality, and now in the present, theres too much about nickelodeon to complain about because it lost all of its quality and now its the most awful channel ever.

Starting at 2:50 and I don’t know where it stops, the music in the background is taken from the opening scene of the 1995 Paramount film Tommy Boy starring Chris Farley and David Spade. I find this interesting because Paramount made both of these films and both have David Spade in them. Also the name of the film and Tommy Pickles
Well we know who they played a Ranger who’s a coward and got fired another ranger who’s brave a got promoted and a wagon that the ranger mistook for a dragon
To everyone in the comments section paying tribute to Christine Cavanaugh, she's not the only one, last year Jack Riley who was Stu Pickles died in August of 2016 last year.
I'm amazed they got an actual monkey to record the lines for the animated simians, even though they could just as easily have used stock sound effects mixed with human-made ones. It would have had the same effect, but damn, this is some commitment.

Dude, this is actually really cool. I actually like seeing the old commercials in these specials. There was a Blind Melon documentary from 2001 that had the commercials in between and that was cool. And this being from Australia makes it just as interesting. So, good on you.
Also RIP Jack Riley.
My left ear is feeling really well-informed.
RIP Christine Cavanaugh and Jack Riley
@David Loud him & david doyle (the original voice for lou from the show)
They'll be missed
The Mya Blackstreet song was fire
hottest song hit ever
RIP Christine Cavanaugh, Joe Alaskey, and Jack Riley
i hope meet all of them in heaven when i die in my older age someday The Ghost
(RIP) Wayne Allwine
Rest In Peace Christine Cavanaugh
Love how this includes these old commercials, from the 90s I'm assuming. Idk I'm just fascinated with all this shit they had to do to pull it off. It's honestly amazing, props to EVERYBODY in there. 👍
I remember seeing this in theaters! Man, I'm old...
May God bless you Christine Cavanaugh, you have been a great actress.
I wish this was on a DVD as a bonus feature along with the deleted scenes that was shown in the TV airings!
And Speaking of That, They should do a Storyboard to Film Side by side of these two deleted scenes which That will be cool to see.
That would be cool
@@321SPONGEBOLT or just a Blu-ray or 4K in general
R.I.P Christine Cavanaugh
I miss her.
VideoGameFan 1998 yeah me too dude :'(
She died? You never really notice voice actors until they're gone, huh?
Annabelle Aldaco Yes, She Died
RIP David Doyle and Andy Houts - 1997 they died the same day. who were they grandpa pickles and a guy who did various voices.
I actually enjoyed watching these foreign commercials lol.
Nallely Jaramillo Hi! My name is Joshua P. Tewolde, and here’s my transcript of the Movie Narrator telling the story of The Making of The Rugrats Movie, one step at a time. Enjoy it and I really hope you like it:
Introduction:
0:37 The Rugrats, everyone's favorite kids have burst on to the big screen in their greatest adventure yet, in The Rugrats Movie.
0:49 Paramount Pictures & Nickelodeon present the first animated movie about Contemporary Family Life. In this story, the Pickles Family welcomes a new arrival.
1:03 In the next half hour, join the fun as we meet the voices,
1:08 Preview the music,
1:11 Witness new secret computer animation techniques,
1:15 H ear the creation of sound effects, Visit the set of the hit music video, “Take Me There”, and explore the magic of the Rugrats.
1:28 The Making of the Rugrats Movie
Part 1:
1:35 The Rugrats' Roller-Coaster-ride to the big screen began with the hit TV series, the #1 kids show on television. One reason for its popularity is its unique way point of view.
2:12 Expanding the world of the Rugrats into a Feature Length Film took nearly 3 years. It involved hundreds of artists from around the, who combined cutting edge anime and animation, original music, and lovable characters to tell an action packed story.
2:30 The filmmakers went beyond the distinctive look they pioneered in the TV series.
3:29 this story find the Rugrats' lives turn upside-down by a monumental event.
Part 2:
7:33 for the actors, playing the Rugrats, brings the actors' voices in themselves.
8:10 The Film showcases several musical numbers.
8:20 Composer Mark Mothersbaugh founder of the rock group "Devo", brings an unusual perspective to the soundtrack.
8:42 One of the film's musical highlights take place at the Hospital Nursery where the Baby Dil was born.
8:53 An all-star team of recording artists past and present, contributed their voices to the songs.
9:46 Recording the musical numbers was just one step into bringing The Rugrats Movie to life. The whole process requires army of animators, using the latest techniques in computer animation.
10:19 The art direction process involves the addition of textures, shading, and special lighting effects. Using state of the art computer software, the technical team adds details that were impossible to create, when animation was done by hand. Each shot provided its own set of challenges.
10:45 Beginning with basic Pencil Test, a fat layer of color is added. 17 additional levels are then layered on top of the flat artwork, one step at a time. These included water texture, shadow effects, and ripples. After a floating log and bridge are inserted, additional shimmer effects and steam are added to complete the scene.
11:15 Some of the most difficult shots involved complex movements.
11:41 Each element of the shot incorporated multiple moves. A great deal of experimentation was required to capture the perfect illusion of gaining speed.
11:56 For the Animators, the most effective shots underscored the emotion of what is happening in the scene.
12:21 The Animators added 3 levels of lightning, and 4 levels of rain to the scene, with the addition of music and sound effects, the illusion was completed.
12:45 With the story that combines Drama, Emotion, and Humor, The Rugrats Movie appeals to both kids, & adults.
Part 3:
17:25 The Rugrats travel on their adventures in a new invention developed by Stu Pickles.
17:52 The story takes the rugrats and their Reptar Wagon, DEEP into the Woods.
18:03 They encounter a Number of surprises - including a group of hungry monkeys that escaped from the Circus.
18:48 When the filmmakers set out to create sounds for the family monkeys, they found that you can’t beat the real thing.
20:25 Along with recording the animal sounds, AND human voices, the filmmakers had to create and ENTIRE WORLD of Rugrats sound-effects from scratch.
23:07 One musical highlight from the Rugrats Soundtrack is a song written by Elvis Costello and performed by No Doubt. It’s called, "I Throw My Toys Around" and it’s a tribute to Angelica.
24:19 Another song featured on the soundtrack is “Take Me There”, which became the basis for an exciting Music Video.
24:30 The concept was to place the live musical performers in the animated world of the rugrats. The first step was to build the set, bringing 2 dimensional animation to life, in 3 dimensions.
25:01 The song was broken down into segments. Blackstreet gave it a distinctive RMB rhythm.
25:14 One of the greatest challenges for the performers was perfecting the choreography.
25:34 The video includes a special rap segment featuring Mase & Blinky Blink driving the Reptar Wagon.
26:11 For the creators and performers involved in the video, working in the world of the Rugrats is an experience they will not soon forget.
Part 4:
29:45 for all of the adventure of The Rugrats Movie, the heart of the story remains with the characters and their relationships.
the commercials are priceless!!!
ahhhh.. the 90's
This is a big long video full of childhood memories, even the ads. Channel 10 :')
I remember playing Spyro the Dragon Avidly around the time this movie was released. :'(
I want to go back in time.
Eureka oh gosh 😭 this comment made me have flashbacks. I Loved Spyro and watched this movie almost everyday haha 😂
"Looks like I got things to do!" -Spyro
I love how these days I love seeing the commericals hahaha
When Gwen Stefani was the lead of No Doubt.
The sounds were so interesting ! Ahh ! I had no idea. I appreciate all the work put into my childhood movie
This movie scared me when I was a kid. It seemed much darker than the other Rugrats movies and specials- but that makes me enjoy it more now that I'm older
I like how you kept the commercials in. I remember seeing these on the tele years ago haha

RIP Christine Cavanaugh! T_T
+iamclassicforlife Yeah, it's sad that she's gone.
I love the rugrats !!
Recently, I tried to find an old VHS copy of this in my house that I hadn't watched in nearly 13 years. I don't know if it's lost or I threw it out, but I was so bummed when I couldn't find it when I wanted to watch it again.
Omfg, I can't believe I, only now, at 16, understand the blatant pun with Dil Pickles..
Brings back memories. Awesome video, thanks!
holy shit tv was better back then
oh man, new episodes of the nanny!!! lol, amazing vid by the way. it helps me see how the animation process really is, for i am soon to be an animator! so i have to learn alot. thanks again. LONG LIVE RUGRATS!!!!!
Lil’s reaction after Phil finished eating the bug and looking happy about it was funny. It was also funny when Didi put the binky in Stu’s mouth while he was crying with Dil.
R.I.P. Christine Cavanaugh. She was loved by many, and she will be dearly missed by many.
Omg thank you soooo much for this!:D
Thanks for not cutting out the ads. :)
Sounds like a plan , I might just do that later today. Thanks man , enjoy watching the best cartoon of all time xD
remembering all of this makes me disappointed at how nickelodeon went from awesome to awful over the years. in the 1990s, nickelodeon was the awesomest channel ever, it was impossible to find even one little thing to complain about. in the mid-2000s, the channel started losing its quality, and now in the present, theres too much about nickelodeon to complain about because it lost all of its quality and now its the most awful channel ever.

Agreed
I love that making of The Rugrats Movie! ^^
Awwww I miss the Rugrats they were one of my favorite cartoons! R.I.P. Christine Canvaugha you played a major part of my childhood!
Rip Christine Cavanaugh and Jack Riley and Joe Alaskey
Christine Cavanaugh was so talented
OMG Tara Strong. :')
i met her in comic con boston 2018 EraPonyProductions
I know this was years ago but I find it funny how they say they use "state-of-the-art computer technology." It's interesting to see how different times are.
it’s interesting to see the commercials
I remember watching this special when I was a kid. Good times :D
I had this on the VHS as a kid, I forgot most of this but I always remembered two things: 1. the foley artists and 2. No Doubt in the recording studio
RIP Christine Cavanaugh, and RIP right headphone.
It's a miracle this was recorded. But I wish there was a high quality version of this featurette
That movie was animated beautifully!
"A baby's got to do, what a baby's got to do" everytime we reconnect with the creation of the first full-length family adventure. Stay safe everyone!
Thank you !!
Speaking of which, in the alternate version of the Rugrats Movie that aired on CBS back in 2001 there were two deleted scenes!
The commercials make me feel like I'm back in this amazing time.
Don't apologize for the ads! Aside from the education on how my favorite childhood film wasmade,,the ads were the best part! Plus they're Aussie ads which for a dude from the us a that's so cool! Just like u! Thnx
I love that the Tommy Boy soundtrack is used to score this featurette.
Omg 3:44 its tara! omg shes changed in looks SO much!
(Tara strong is her name now) If you dont know who she is she voices dill (of course) timmy turner from the fairy odd parents, bubbles from the powerpuff girls, twilight sparkle from mlp,and many others I know lots about her. shes such a sweetheart
She did melody from the little mermaid 2 as well :)
I love seeing the 1998-99 commercials tho...Makes me all Nostalgic!
Just feeling nostalgic
wish we had the full behind the scenes of this with the last 30 seconds and no commercials.
thank you dude c:
Oh my gosh the Pokemon commercial. Oh my gosh...My heart is warmed.
The sound effects women are phenomenal
Starting at 2:50 and I don’t know where it stops, the music in the background is taken from the opening scene of the 1995 Paramount film Tommy Boy starring Chris Farley and David Spade. I find this interesting because Paramount made both of these films and both have David Spade in them. Also the name of the film and Tommy Pickles
Lol Armageddon and The Nanny in the commercials? Daaaang now i feel old
I can't believe believe they didn't mention David Spade, Whoopi Goldberg or Busta Rhymes !!!
Plus cho Chang!
Well we know who they played a Ranger who’s a coward and got fired another ranger who’s brave a got promoted and a wagon that the ranger mistook for a dragon
2:05 she will be missed
When they talk about hip hop artists that were popular in the 90s it's funny. Mace and Blinky blink. Sounds like something you'd hear in a parody.
Can You Upload Opening To The Rugrats Movie 2000 VHS Whats Sound Is It 1:01
Holy crap I thought Fred Armisen directed Rugrats for a second there. That guy looks EXACTLY like him.
Tara.... Charendoff!!!?!?! feel so old now!
Omg! They sound just like the characters in real life. Haha. That's so weird, but cool!
RIP Christine you made my childhood great.
Wow. This was recorded exactly 4 years before I was born.
Ioving the throwback commercials
I remember watching this in the movies!
This movie is retro. It's weird that they didn't use child voice actors. R.I.P. Christine Cavanaugh, we'll miss you and your brilliant voice acting.
Not really, I mean it means that they didn't have to deal with the problem of the children growing up and out of their voices.
Not to mention the limitations when working with kids. Very few child characters are voiced my actual children

To everyone in the comments section paying tribute to Christine Cavanaugh, she's not the only one, last year Jack Riley who was Stu Pickles died in August of 2016 last year.
Does anyone know what operating system is on the computer their using.
i loved the music that Mark Mothersbaugh for the Rugrats Movies and for 21&22 Jump Street
I'm amazed they got an actual monkey to record the lines for the animated simians, even though they could just as easily have used stock sound effects mixed with human-made ones. It would have had the same effect, but damn, this is some commitment.
Happy 20th Anniversary To The Rugrats Movie, And My Favorite CharaFrom Rugrats Is Angelica Pickles 3:22
This is awesome:)
it's so weird that I remember these commercials.
It's cool how they used practical 1940s style sound effects for the movie as opposed to the mechanical ones used today
Watching the old ads, it's funny how cars were being sold for $20,000 and now they're selling for under $15,000.
Since Technology is more improved now imagine what the Rugrats movie would look like if it were to release this year.
Steph Loves Vinty it's been 20 years so 1998
