Started OTR in the early 80's. Always looked for that Orange Ball in the Sky. So much better than the fuel stops of today. Not many honest truck stops left. Used to love the old Mom and Pop truck stops.

You reminded me of saying my dad had. “Believe nothing you hear and half of what you see.” I used to give people the benefit of the doubt until that saying became true more often than not. Now I don’t believe anything that someone says

So true! …..and it’s sad that society has became a lie.

That ain't no joke. If you can't look out for yourself and take care of yourself, you can't take care of anything else. Sadly, we live in a world where we have to literally question everything

I saw a time when they gave the Men ham with honey biscuits! N black coffee!! woohoo! that O'le 76 would make a good parking area! this is something I wish more truckers watched!
it's funny, seems like the truckers/operators try harder then the brokers!! still a good O'le lot in places! next time I guess! probably just a prick! get'n out & walking around's a good healthy thing to do!

You know I love a good history lesson. I could almost picture the cabovers and 359s parked amongst the Transtars, W900As, Jimmy Astros. I am like you. I came at the very tail end of something very cool. Luckily, I grew up riding in trucks so I do remember some of it!!

I love history like this and I love to be able to have the ability to touch the past even if it's just for a moment.

I got another one in the works right now but a lot of this stuff takes a bit of planning so I'm just going to play it by ear

Hey Dave. I really enjoyed your live the other night. I've always liked checking out the old truck stops. The 76's the Rip Griffins, TA'S and the TTT in Tucson I always enjoyed the Iron Skillet at the Petros. In fact I still think about the Twin arrows and Cabazon. They were some pretty good ol truck stops. I think the TTT is still open.we used to stop there a lot heading out and coming back. A lot of great memories. And we would stop at the 76 or across the street at TA in Ontario
Calif. Take care brother see you on the next one.

I remember the first time driving out to LA and stopping at the TA East and seeing the big 76 sign on the west side of the road. Normally when I was out there I would stay in Fontana at truck town. Had a lot of fun there

I was hoping to get by there and maybe do a little filming and see if I can find some old 76 remnants because if you look hard enough you can still see a few things here and there but I came off the 412 heading east do exits east of there so I didn't get a chance

If freight is down right now, what general areas are doing better?

    • @truckerdaveandred6731

I think that basic Commodities are doing okay right now but this being an election year everybody's tightening their belts and going into a holding pattern because people don't have a lot of disposable income right now. I do know General Commodities are still holding but it's getting highly competitive

@@truckerdaveandred6731 Thanks. I guess I should have said regions? NE, South, West. Which area looks like it might be a good area to be working in?

It's been fluctuating but I've noticed that when it comes to whatever reason you're running, if you can hit a Groove where you're making money, you ride that Groove as long as you can. My bread and butter has been getting a little light lately and I'm working on finding a New Groove myself. It's all about staying fluid and while we don't work for free, it's about staying out a couple of days and doing what the other guy won't because while a lot of guys are wanting to go home every friday, I'm making three to four thousand dollars that weekend and I'm not going to turn that down in this economy.
As for a specific area, some people do better than others in these areas and like I said, if you can get it to click, go for it. My buddy used to make all sorts of money in areas that I could never get to go and vice versa. Don't be afraid to take a little bit of a risk if you're interested in running a lane
