I've been lucky enough to have owned two 69 Dodge Chargers. Bought one in 81 in a junkyard in National City, CA. $500. Sold it when I was sent overseas. 383, console, 727, Dana 60. In 85 I bought another in Denver, $1200. 318, 727, column shift. No posi. I'll never be able to own another; they're just too expensive now. I have a 64 Valiant to restore. It's good. I like yours!
I love an early A body too. A bodies were my jam forever. Still are, but I like the slightly larger B body - mostly for the ride quality. I’m putting together a ‘66 Barracuda street / strip car currently. Very excited about it. When my wife moved back here from California, it was basically our only car. Rowdy 360, four speed, 4.10s, glass packs with side dumps. We had a lot of fun in the thing. It’s gone through a few sets of hands and has now come back to me. It’s going to be awesome again - soon. I never, ever thought I could afford a nice Charger. I had actually just tried to buy an absolutely rotten POS shell to slowly build into a car. I got burned on that deal. I got really lucky on a deal for a Cobra replica last year, and when I eventually decided to sell, that (and a bunch of other projects) became my Charger. Still can’t believe it’s in the garage sometimes…
Well done Man! 68 Dodge Charger still rules in beauty. Even with a number of things to make it solid, it's money well spent, just a too cool looking whip. Congratulations, you got yourself a keeper.
If I was going to have this style, this would be the year. My friend has had his since he was 17. He has put a lot of love into it. For me though, you can't beat a 67 charger. It's just magical. One day I'll find one, or at least a clean enough one to work on. The lights, the body line, the interior, it was the whole package.
Agree, but only ‘66 has the full length console 😍 the interior is definitely magical on the early car. I had one for years, but once I got the ‘68 I always wanted, the ‘66 became surplus.
Great job showing the reality of driving an old car a long distance, in an entertaining way. Also does a good job of showing why restomods / pro-touring is popular, and also what a bargain modern muscle cars are.
Had to comment even though this is 5mo. Old . I had a 68 in 82-83 had been totaled bent frame drivers side. I cut it apart and straightened it welded it back good enough to align. It was ugly but beautiful to me.All I have left is a few pictures. Most beautiful car of all time. I blame the auctions and the internet for ruining the hobby for all us blue collar guys.
I enjoyed the whole video. I have a 69 Charger (and 05 Ram). I can relate. When you love your car, all its quirks can be endured... glad to see you're not afraid to drive in the rain. Hello from Wisconsin
its awesome to see someone love a car that much , when I found my 69 chevelle I didn't care I loved it and still do , I hate people always point to the negative , you have great car just be proud of it
Buying the Charger was something I thought I might never be able to do. It felt like completing a level in life. Still can’t believe I have it sometimes. Super proud. I’m the first to say it isn’t perfect - and that’s ok.
@@DeadDodgeGarageI Don't think any old car is perfect. They all have something wrong with them. Congratulations on buying your Dream Car also. Glad it's with someone who will drive it. Hate seeing these old cars stuck in a garage and never being driven. Rick people collect them and don't drive them that pisses me off
Great car , I bought one in 1972 for $1200. Kept it until about 1974 and due to the 1970's gasoline shortages I only could get $500 for it. Today , this is hard to believe , but many of these old collectable cars were hard to sell. The 1968 was the best looking Charger. Enjoy it.
Oh I know. When I started in the hobby in 2008, Chargers like this were desirable, but most of the smaller A body cars (and later Bs) were still pretty much junk nobody wanted. Times sure change.
My dad's daily driver through the 80s and 90s was a 68 charger r/t with a 440 4 speed. It's been my car since 2003. I can't believe I've owned it for 20 years already! I actually tried to start it today but the fuel pump is not working.
Its a beautiful car man, Pleased for you that you now have your dream car. No matter what price gas becomes, it will always be a dream ride. Nice to see one of these classic vehicles safe in the hands of a man who knows how to take care of it. Be safe buddy.
Man, I'm jealous. You lucky dog. Great video. My dad had a 70 Charger, also with the 383. He got it up to 136 coming back through the NC mountains one night. But anyways, mad respect bro. Good job. 🤘💯
Oh wow. I’ve been 130 in the passenger seat of a ‘68… it felt like the ass end of the car wanted to take off and fly. I don’t think I’ll do that again. I really did get lucky on this car. It’s been over a year and it still doesn’t feel real. Thank you!
I was dying laughing. I miss my 68 I lost when I was 21. There's nothing like the feel of the old chargers good and bad. And the 68 is the ultimate bad ass of all charger before and after. If there's a bad ass in a movie he's driving a 68
It kind of does! They are far from small but I have always been impressed with how those B bodies hold the road. And obviously the view over the Charger hood helps.
Brings back memories. My trip saw vibration turn into a blowout at 65 mph. Mileage on gas is typical. Blast to drive though. My trip was California to Minnesota. Great times!
This video takes me back. Dad had 2 68s. And the ride home when I bought my 70 340 dart was sketchy just like this. In the snow, at night, thru Providence Rhode Island. All was ok until going up hill and the limited slip kicked in and kept trying to introduce the rear quarter to oncoming traffic. Good times.
Dude I'm jealous and happy for you. I would trade almost eveything i have to have a 68 charger. Now i love my 68 Satellite but there's something about a charger.
They’re just special. They’re curvy and muscular from every angle. Extremely cool. I love ‘68 Plymouths too! We’re replacing the entire back half and floors of a ‘68 Roadrunner right now. But the Charger is the one for me.
Awesome! Glad you got one! I had to face the fact that they are out of reach for me nowadays, even if one does come up for sale in my area theres always a bidding war and usually they are nowhere near as nice as the one you bought! Congratulations!👍
That’s exactly what happened to me - and what caused me to say to hell with it, if I want one now is probably my last chance to get one. So I sold my Cobra - which I did very well on - and a good few other extra things. I paid an ungodly amount of money for it - money I could’ve used to enrich our lives in other ways. But I’m happy and my wife seems pretty ok with it. I’ve made good choices in general I think. Haha. Thank you!
I wish l could properly express the experience of seeing them new to the world as a car crazy 5 year old boy...Our neighbor had a 66 that amazed me,so my astonishment was off the charts for the 68-70s..
Awesome video, and great to see so many familiar roads after a while (I moved from Oregon to the Southwest years ago). ‘68 is THE year for A and B Bodies . My preferences are towards the GTO (my first car in high school), 442, and Skylark for their 400s compared to the SS 396, but Mopars in ‘68 still look amazing. There must’ve been something in the water in ‘66-‘67 where engineers finally wrapped their heads around aesthetics and function, as the precursor design to the F-14 was locked down that same year. If you get the chance in Oregon, I believe the Chevelle Club in the Beaverton area still hosts a local cruise-in off Farmington and Kinnaman across the street from Mountain View Middle School. It didn’t hurt that Gold Eagle Classics (a GM resto parts retailer) used to be in business just a mile down the road off 185th and Farmington.
There was definitely something in the water. It was such a great time for design. It sure didn’t last long… I agree! I have a great aunt in Beaverton and have spent a good bit of time there, but I’ve never been with one of my classics.
I was born in Everette but I go back every couple months. I’m resurrecting a 1965 Biscayne that sat since 1977 if it’s okay I can stop by and show you everything I did to it.
I just got my dream Charger Yesterday. It has been 50 years for me. Was going to drive it home like you did but the price included delivery by car hauler. Take care. From Sioux City,Ia
I had that exact ride once in a freshly purchased firebird only there where no lights in front and it was an 89 Formula totally different league of vehicle. Mine only costed 500 bucks tho. Ya can't mess with that dawg. What a great car you have there.
What a fabulously entertaining video. Love it ! Had a 69 GTX I went out to Indiana to get. Similar surprises & glitches including a gas tank that leaked if filled more than half way !
I absolutely love looking at 68-70 chargers from every angle (except if they're upside down) . I used to have a white 69 originally green that I sold to a gentleman in Bismarck nd in 2002 or so and was told it went up into Canada. Biggest regret of my life is selling it...I will get another someday.
I Bought My 68 Charger with a 2 bbl 383 automatic with a fairly decent reddish orange lacquer driveway repaint job in 1979 for $1200. found it for sale just blocks from my parent house , Lynnwood WA as my first car at 18 years old I still own it and drive it although now with an old school modified 440 , original modified 727 , & swapped in oem Dana 60 3;54s assembly .. will be doing full Resto with some improvements and build another 440 engine or Hemi upgrade , its still just as exciting as day one to work on and drive...
That’s awesome! So cool that you have been able to hang onto it and enjoy it. I hope to have mine for a long, long time. I am planning to rip all the 90s stuff out of the engine compartment and get it back to a relatively stock look. But I’m really happy with the 383 and will stick with that. I was tempted by a hemi… but thankfully it didn’t end up going my way.
I enjoyed the ride along. Reminds me of a trip to Myrtle Beach from Kannapolis NC. My buddy and me in 1979 in my 69 Charger 383 auto with an Offenhouser 2X4 bbl. I bet our mileage was worse. But we had fewer miles to go. We picked up our girl friends that morning and drove to the food store. A fine officer of the law pulled me over in the parking lot and after checking all my paper work. Let me know my brake lights were not working. He gave me a business card that his brother in law owned. Towing and repair. Told me not to move my car until the car was repaired. Then he proceeded to park across the street and observe. My buddy was a great mechanic and said it was the fuse. So we bought some fuses along with the groceries we came for. Then returned to the car and replaced the fuse. I drove out of the lot and right by the cop with out using my brakes. The law pulled out quite quickly and just as he approached my rear bumper. I braked for the stop sign. He had such a disgusted look on his face. 😂. The 2X4 intake is one funny story also. For another time. I felt your joy in the trip. Many more ahead.
Thanx for the Ride What a beautiful "Hot Rod"! 452 casting cyl heads... mopar performance port-match templates & the M-1 manifold. Holley Sniper EFI and max wedge exh manifolds. Plenty of init adv and good gas; Lets party! Gonna be fun Duuude!!

Congrats! ‘68 Chargers are awesome! Well done! Seeing this reminds me of when I drove home my ‘70 Torino Brougham 10 years ago. I didn’t really break down, but things happened…😅 312 miles (but who’s counting?) and we used 25 gallons on that trip, while running on 7 cylinders and doing 55-60 mph most of the time with 3.00:1 rear gears….

Fun fact: leaking valve covers and burnt oil smell from the oil dripping on the headers is standard equipment on the 383. I went for the optional electrical problems and hidden rust on my 71 Challenger R/T. I sold her about 45 years ago it was the saddest of times and the happiest of times.
Sorry, that’s a common misconception - the electrical problems and rust were *also* standard equipment - NOT optional. Hope that helped to clear things up. Dang. I hear that a lot. That’s a bummer.
@@DeadDodgeGarage Been a MOPAR fan all my life, I got to know that Challenger intimately, I met practically every nut, bolt, wire, fuel , brake line engine internals (pistons, crank, camshaft valves etc.)part intake, header bolt (note Appliance brand header are easier to install but hell when changing #8 spark plug) on the big block. Front end alignment, moog original springs- check manufacture spec to moog spec. Custom spring shop with variable rate spring meaning rebound. Original engine was a 318, just guessing. Add weight of 383 engine. My guess is one and a half coil turn. Add coil cushion isolator. Kyb shocks. Use oe rubber for mounts and front end. One protease , you have to change all underbody rubber. A.s.e. certificate test. Go Sam Houston.
Yep. Still very confused. This is an original numbers matching 383 big block car. These cars don’t have coil springs… just don’t understand any of what you are saying.
The concern was that it sat essentially unused for over a decade, only occasionally going to car shows and such. But it worked out fine, and I've put several thousand miles on it since!
I have owned a1969 Dodge Charger SE 383 HP with 82,000 original miles. I did a not and bolt restoration in 2007. It’s insane how much they are selling for now. I really feel bad for people getting burned by cars like that one for $170k. That’s horrible! People spending that kind of cash should spend a few hundred bucks on a Mopar expert to do a pre inspection before they buy it. I’ve done it with every classic car that I bought that I couldn’t see myself and have never been burned thank God. Any classic car should be inspected before purchased. Period. Take care 👍👍👍
lol, great video, daughter in the rear seat only makes it better!, nice car, sad it's not a 4-speed car but many chargers were "auto's" on the column..nice purchase!
I’ve already spent a lot of time converting cars to four speeds over the years… so at this point I really don’t mind throwing the column shifter in drive and going for a cruise. Haha. And anyway, when it’s time to do four speed stuff, I hop in my factory 340 4 speed Demon.
Dan didn't hide this well enough. He knows if he ever got the opportunity to bring a '68 charger home to not waste the time checking with first. Just grab it!

Not sure if you’ve messed with the brake pedal thing yet but if they put one of those newer trapezoid boosters in I read you need to add 1/4” to the little link thing in the brake assembly. Haven’t addressed it on mine yet so not 100% sure.
@@rikubot That's a great thought. I hadn't been thinking that way because the pedal doesn't come up very high. In my experience, an adjustment issue there just makes a squishy pedal until it engages - but mine is kind of squishy...
That's an awesome 😎 Charger Jamie 😁. The oil leak is an easy fix I'm sure. Could be the chrome plating still on the sealing lip on the valve covers or rear main seal.😊 Anyway Beautiful ❤️ Charger!😊
There's a '68 charger roller, sitting on a farm in Bellville, Ohio..... it's been sitting for over 30yrs, and is completely gutted.... Beautiful car. I bought my 68 back in 1972. It was an early production model and was built in Sept of 67. It had a lot of teething problems. I could never keep the radio or side marker lights working. It leaked under the dash but otherwise, I sold it in 1975.
Great find man! I loved the way you film this a lot of car exposure 68 charger is an absolutely beautiful car! I’ve owned American Japanese German cars, but I’m basically a GM old car type of guy, i’m 62 years old. In 2001 I had a chance to buy a 67 Coronet RT 440 4 speed with the Dana60 rear end , it was all original , paint was old, but it was in perfect condition needed a new clutch for $12,500. I didn’t buy it. Yes, I just slapped myself in the face for being such a dumbass. Love this video. Been in that position a few times myself.

Anyways, I got to add you to my favorites and catch up on your shows
My Mother had a new red 68 Charger R/T with a black vinyl top, white interior and a white bumblebee stripe. I was 16 at the time and just got my DL and when she would let me drive it I was in heaven.
That’s amazing. My great grandma had a 383 car almost identical to mine - except it was a burnt orange or copper color and didn’t have a vinyl top. She was well known for ripping around town in that car.
Thats a nice car. Its interesting why the speedo is off that far. I wonder if the rear gear or the trans was changed? The right speedo gear in the trans will correct that. I wiper switch, just open it up and clean the contacts and relube it. runs well. I dont think you need the balast resistor with the msd control unit ?
Yes it had 4.30s. I have now put 3.23 suregrip gears in, still need to change the gear though. No ballast resistor necessary. I robbed a good used wiper switch from work I still need to install - but won’t pitch the old one, I’ll clean it eventually
Nice 383 magnum or the 440 both powerful depends on driver. 383with 4speed manual goes good 👍 and also I like to add that car is a million-dollar car there's no price you can set on something that beautiful
Well… it’s not as nice as it looks on camera. But it’s an awesome car. This one is a 383 automatic. I love the cruiser aspect of the car and don’t think I will ever go through all the trouble of a four speed conversion. I did that to my ‘66, and while it was cool, I don’t want to do it again.
One of the most exciting cars on the planet... But you have a lot of buts here. :) I had a blue one with a 4-speed, 383, posi 373 gears in 1977... I think it was a $1000 car then... In fact i cannot remember what I paid for it.. it was that cheap! haha... But it would Burn the tires off in 3 gears! had a lot of fun with that car!
hi just watch this ep the 68 is nice what engine is in it . when you took your truck with you did you have a trailer with it in case you broke down on the road .
rear tires way too big, they need to tuck under the wheel well, get a reverse rim and they will tuck in real ncie, I had 10" x 16 cragars on the rear of a 442 then 8" x 15 up front, tucked right in handled and drove very well, good corner speed as well, they should tuck right in as well but if you want 12's you will need a reverse style rim or an offset center that pulle em in towards the differential.. ncie car man.. lucky dog!
One more inch of back spacing would have fit the 295 fully inside the quarter lip and still cleared the leaf. I am not wasting my hard earned money on replacement wheels I don’t even like. I’ve got my eye on something more my style that is nice enough to bolt on there. Surprise surprise, it’s a set of Cragars. Thank you!
As time and finances permit, I would slowly work to bring that back to factory OEM. No aftermarket parts, only genuine MOPAR OEM period correct parts down to the harness, fuel lines, and valve covers.
Funny you say that. I have recently acquired factory correct ‘68 valve covers, air cleaner (for the 4 barrel - it stays,) radiator hoses, and engine paint piece by piece. Still looking for a radiator. Need to decide what to do with ignition - may just hide the MSD box because it works so well. I’ve already put the correct gears back in it. Wheels and tires I’m not so sure on. I don’t like the factory hub caps. But may acquire a set of steelies and caps to have with it anyway. Something like a day two look is more my style. Maybe polished slots. I have access to a mountain of OEM harnesses so I’ll figure that out. Anyway… I’m on it. Haha.
You drove it in the rain? I love the smell of hot oil, fuel, and exhaust! You should have trailered it. It sounds good. The seats are great! Wish they still made them like that.
No, I literally lived my dream by driving this car home, and I have exactly 0% regrets there. Runs great. Seats are fantastic. Extremely comfortable on long trips 😅
The wiring looks frightening, back in 1980s renting an apt, another tenant had 70-72 lemans, and he rewired everything along firewall under hood using commercial solid core copper wire for u
I’m a mechanic and own my own business, which makes me almost no money at all. But the freedom affords other opportunities, and I paid for this car by collecting classic cars, tinkering with them for a while, and then selling them on. I also made one really good purchase with the last $10k I had from selling my house. Selling that car a couple weeks ago sealed the deal.
Sorry I’m late to the party. Dude, nice car. I’m always fixing issues with my car. Not sure the headaches balance the pleasure yet. Anyway, cool video, all the best with her. 👍🍻🇨🇦
The rear wheels are 15x11 with 3” of back spacing, and the rear tires are a truly ridiculous P295/50R15. The driver side tire rubs on the outside badly on bumps, unless air shocks are full and nothing is in the trunk. The inside of the tire is over 3.5” away from the leaf spring, so if they had ordered the dang wheels with at least 4” or maybe even 5” of back spacing they would have fit perfectly. I don’t want to buy new wheels, so I will probably step the tire down to a 275 and maybe modify the quarter panel slightly. The front is a 15x7” also with 3” of back spacing, with a P215/70R15 tire. The front fits great.
But of advice...pull the engine and trans...break em down and rebuild them. The short circuits are a result of poor wiring. Get a new factory wiring harness...replace all fuses and make sure your grounded correctly. Lastly...redo the flip lights by checking actuator that controls when the headlights open and close. Put on new factory red paint...and change tires and get the wheels aligned...if they are not aligned right...that's what's causing the vibration. Nice ride...most original 68 Dodge charger I have seen❤😂
1) no. The drivetrain has well under 100k miles and is super solid. I’ve had the intake off. It’s beautiful in there. Zero smoke. Shifts great. It’s fine. 2) no. The short circuit was the result of a split wire coating that we found and repaired in this video. A year and a half and a couple thousand miles later, it’s doing just fine. Everything works. 3) no… I fixed the one split vacuum line, and the headlights work perfectly. 4) no. Bad wheel alignment has absolutely nothing to do with vibration. But yes, I think it is tire related. The tires need to go anyway. I’ll deal with the little rust bubbles and paint it some day. For now, I’m gonna go ahead and keep enjoying it. If I were to take your advice, the car would have to be taken completely apart and packed into boxes, where it would probably stay forever. Countless people have made that same mistake in the hunt for perfection that they will never find. I’m not planning to be one of them.

Congratulations man, hope your truly enjoying your dream car, maybe someday I will be doing the same. 🫡
68 Charger is the pinnacle of 60's muscle cars.
Great job showing the reality of driving an old car a long distance, in an entertaining way. Also does a good job of showing why restomods / pro-touring is popular, and also what a bargain modern muscle cars are.
Yes I could have bought a modern Charger, a modern Challenger, and had a good few bucks left over. But the heart wants what the heart wants…
Born in '59 and lived through all of this. Man, I LOVED the Charger!!! Just a cool design.
There's nothing better than looking across an acre of sheetmetal hood and pulling it into the garage for the first time. Well done, sir.
its awesome to see someone love a car that much , when I found my 69 chevelle I didn't care I loved it and still do , I hate people always point to the negative , you have great car just be proud of it
Buying the Charger was something I thought I might never be able to do.
@@DeadDodgeGarage Also. monopoly collectors like Jay Leno drive up the price of the great American classic cars.
My dad's daily driver through the 80s and 90s was a 68 charger r/t with a 440 4 speed. It's been my car since 2003. I can't believe I've owned it for 20 years already! I actually tried to start it today but the fuel pump is not working.
That’s awesome! So cool that you have it. I wish I had anything my dad had driven. Better get it running!
Thank you!
@@DeadDodgeGarage Hell yeah man.
Thanks for bringing us along for the ride, And beautiful charger added to the family 😁
I was dying laughing. I miss my 68 I lost when I was 21. There's nothing like the feel of the old chargers good and bad. And the 68 is the ultimate bad ass of all charger before and after. If there's a bad ass in a movie he's driving a 68
Dodge Charger from the late 1960s, has always been my favorite muscle cars.
Congratulations Dude to a cool muscle car!👍
Two very excellent cars even the colors are perfect. Super sweet
Congratulations on your 68 Charger.
I liked how although it was a big car, sitting in the driver's seat, it felt like you were in a sports car.
Oh wow. Yeah… I’m glad to have missed that part. The rest sounds awesome though. I’d like to cross the country in my Charger eventually.
Congrats on another dream car! If one wants something bad enough we find a way to get it. Great trip home too, thanks for sharing!
Good times.
I’ve never brought a Mopar home in the snow yet that I can remember, but I did drive a Cobra replica in the snow once…
Nice! Glad you got a charger! I miss the 68' I had. Looking forward to seeing more content on this car.
Grats on the Charger acquisition 👍. In my humble opinion....the 68' is THE BEST year of Charger. Enjoy!!! ✌😎
Mine too! Oh, I am. Haha. The only thing I don’t like is how friggin thirsty it is… but dreams are rarely cheap
@@DeadDodgeGarage I agree 100%.
Haha. Thank you!
@@DeadDodgeGarage 👍
I wish l could properly express the experience of seeing them new to the world as a car crazy 5 year old boy...Our neighbor had a 66 that amazed me,so my astonishment was off the charts for the 68-70s..
According to my grandfather-a genuine 1969 440 R/T owner from 71-80-they are the best car ever. Good luck!
I have a great aunt in Beaverton and have spent a good bit of time there, but I’ve never been with one of my classics.
what a cool Dodge and driving experience, pal ! And: the oil pressure look great !
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing!
I’ve wanted a ‘68 Impala since I was 7 years old. Last August I bought one! Also bought “my dream car” like you.
Nice! My brother got his dream car trailer too - a ‘67 Impala four door hardtop (what you may well know is the Supernatural car.)
@@DeadDodgeGarage awesome! That has blown the price of ‘67s through the roof. I’m glad they didn’t go with a ‘68 😬.
That Charger looks good and you made it home. That's a double win.
That’s awesome! Congratulations!
I had that exact ride once in a freshly purchased firebird only there where no lights in front and it was an 89 Formula totally different league of vehicle. Mine only costed 500 bucks tho. Ya can't mess with that dawg. What a great car you have there.
Yeah there aren’t many $500 Chargers left these days 😅 nice!
Congrats, That was a fun ride!
My first car was a 68 Charger. Then on to a 72 340 Duster. Looks like you got my past covered. Nice cars brother.🫡😎
My man, I don't even come across ONE classic Mopar during my travels in Mississippi. You've already got a yard full 👍😎
Thanx for the Ride
What a beautiful "Hot Rod"! 452 casting cyl heads... mopar performance port-match templates & the M-1 manifold. Holley Sniper EFI and max wedge exh manifolds. Plenty of init adv and good gas; Lets party!

I hope to take the car back through Oregon one of these days! I’m up here in Grays Harbor, but I like to vacation to Oregon once or twice a year.
@@DeadDodgeGarage that’s too bad cuz I’ve got a customer here I’d love to introduce you too. He’s got several extremely nice old school muscle cars and he’s got need of a good mechanic who understands the love for the old.
383 is a wonderful engine , my 440 in my GTX is also ok too . I've owned them both and I could not tell any real difference .
Nice. I’ve since changed the rear gears in the Charger. It had friggin 4.30s! Even so I was averaging around 11 MPG. Not bad…
@@DeadDodgeGarage 4.30s!? Man... Then your Charger did GREAT in regards of fuel :P
@@LifeofnotBrian I know! Almost unbelievable! I swear I know how to do math though. Haha. I was hoping the 3.23s would get me up to 16 MPG (as my old ‘66 got with the same 383.) Not quite…

Love to see ya at the drags some day.... Funny how even a cool car can have issues. I would say you will be all good in less than a year .
@@mccoulombe941 -Every- car has issues. Especially the cool ones. Haha. Well, since this video was almost a year ago, I can confirm your prediction! I put 3.23 gears in it and drive it whenever the weather is nice. I drove it an hour each way to work yesterday, after a long winter slumber in the garage! There are a handful of small things to fix on the car, but in general it's quite good.I have no intentions of taking the Charger to the track - that's what my Demon 340 is for. Speaking of which, I think I'm going drag racing tomorrow...
But man, I had fun.
@@DeadDodgeGarage I can actually qualify as a "shade tree mechanic" I pulled the engine out using a chain hoist and block & tackle hung over a pecan tree limb.
My 69 charger was constantly blowing volt regulators. The lights would get real bright go blue and then pop. But still a bad ass ride. Congrats!
Yeah that’s always fun. My ‘75 Power Wagon used to blow voltage regulators early or worse, and then it would do that.
Congrats and welcome to a very exclusive club... for better or worse.
Mostly better as there is nothing sexier on the road.

Props to u. Now the memories build. Very happy 4 u. That ride is all u buddy. Maybe one day we'll hook up. Would be darn glad to meet u.. Always remember, it's good to own it and have problems. Hell yeah! Thanks! Some day we’ll do channel meets, I hope!
These cars don’t have coil springs… just don’t understand any of what you are saying.
congratulations my friend, nice car, I love it. I hope to have one one day👍
Charger looks like it's been maintained and 300 miles should not have issues. Good health and happy miles ahead enjoying you Charger
Very nice man, congratulations on the purchase, reminds me alot of my Dad's 68
lol, great video, daughter in the rear seat only makes it better!, nice car, sad it's not a 4-speed car but many chargers were "auto's" on the column..nice purchase!
Brother, love your videos. i have a 73 440 cuda 4 speed . just spent 3 years building the new engine. its in and running. and a beast. what do you think of the Quick fuel carb? keep the videos coming. thanks. and i love your charger.

It’s been a year and a few months so far! I love this car. It’s awesome. I’ve made a few small changes and repairs. Very pleased.
Not sure if you’ve messed with the brake pedal thing yet but if they put one of those newer trapezoid boosters in I read you need to add 1/4” to the little link thing in the brake assembly. Haven’t addressed it on mine yet so not 100% sure.
Oh, that’s interesting. I could swear it’s a factory type booster but the pedal is definitely super low.
@@DeadDodgeGarage I’d swap that master first and see if that helps but I can find that article if you want it.
@@DeadDodgeGarage it could be the little pin that pushes the piston through the master cylinder needs adjusting
@@rikubot That's a great thought. I hadn't been thinking that way because the pedal doesn't come up very high. In my experience, an adjustment issue there just makes a squishy pedal until it engages - but mine is kind of squishy...
@@rikubot The master is absolutely wrong, so I should definitely start with that as you say. A disk brake proportioning valve is also on the agenda.
That's an awesome 😎 Charger Jamie 😁. The oil leak is an easy fix I'm sure. Could be the chrome plating still on the sealing lip on the valve covers or rear main seal.😊
Anyway Beautiful ❤️ Charger!😊
Very nice and great trip with the kiddo. Have a great Christmas.
I can relate to your enthusiasm. Nice job
There's a '68 charger roller, sitting on a farm in Bellville, Ohio..... it's been sitting for over 30yrs, and is completely gutted.... I talked to the owner about 15yrs. ago, and he said he has a 440c.i. for it, and N.O.S replacement parts for the body & interior..... as of today February 27, 2023.... it's still sitting in the same spot untouched.... really pisses me off to say the least.
Damn… it’s even worse when you consider this is 2024. 😭
That was a great show! I never heard of you before, I just seen the '68 Charger and had to click on it. Isn't it always that way. My God, this video is a year old. I will add you to my favorites! By the way, on TH-cam there is a show called Nicks Garage out of Montreal. He specializes on old Dodge performance muscle cars. He is excellent to watch, all the cars he works on for his clients and even has his own dyno room. If you ever need help, he's the one. Anyways, I got to add you to my favorites and catch up on your shows
I am well familiar with Nick. Haha. Yes, this was last summer - but I’ve got all kinds of other Mopar projects and adventures going on. Thanks!
Cool new addition to your stable. Was that a Bigfoot I saw at the river ? Thumbs Up.
FANTASTIC!!
I'm glad you got the car you always wanted!
Oh Crap, hope my wife doesn't see this- she already reeeally wants one...

Haaaahaha. Yes maybe don’t let her see it. I love this friggin thing. Having a hard time believing I own it still.
hi just watch this ep the 68 is nice what engine is in it . when you took your truck with you did you have a trailer with it in case you broke down on the road .
No, figured I could rent one if need be. It’s a 383.
rear tires way too big, they need to tuck under the wheel well, get a reverse rim and they will tuck in real ncie, I had 10" x 16 cragars on the rear of a 442 then 8" x 15 up front, tucked right in handled and drove very well, good corner speed as well, they should tuck right in as well but if you want 12's you will need a reverse style rim or an offset center that pulle em in towards the differential.. ncie car man..
Haha.
@@DeadDodgeGarage Excellent! Oh, and dog dishes FTW!!

The wiring looks frightening, back in 1980s renting an apt, another tenant had 70-72 lemans, and he rewired everything along firewall under hood using commercial solid core copper wire for u
Congratulations bro🥳,may I ask what you do for a living 🤔
I’m a mechanic and own my own business, which makes me almost no money at all. But the freedom affords other opportunities, and I paid for this car by collecting classic cars, tinkering with them for a while, and then selling them on. I also made one really good purchase with the last $10k I had from selling my house. Selling that car a couple weeks ago sealed the deal.
Can you please make a video on how to install the shunt wire amp gauge delete?
I discuss it in my Classic Chrysler Charging Systems video, but I am planning to do a video just on that when the opportunity arises.
Nice deal my mom lives near Bend and have got parts from Baxter for my 65 Dart in 2002
what a car...your actually living my dream dude that dodge is stunning
It really is… I got ridiculously lucky on that one.
Sorry I’m late to the party. Dude, nice car. I’m always fixing issues with my car. Not sure the headaches balance the pleasure yet. Anyway, cool video, all the best with her. 👍🍻🇨🇦
What size are the rims and rear tires please, looks very big.
Oh this is a Mopar Beauty!!! Much love from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦😊😎💕,An Awesome Choice!!! It's a Charger 😈🔥
So much class in one car. Congratulations
Nice car…that road from Bend to the wet side brings back memories
Oh yeah. I’ve done it at least once just about every year for the last 28 years.
