    I like Everdell. There indeed are many games which are better, but on the other hand there are way more that are worse.
    That being said, in this vid you miss to state why you think these games are better than Everdell other than being more playable by younger players.
    Which mechanics of those games are ‘better’ and why so?
    Why are they more fun or entertaining than Everdell?
    Which aspect of those games, compared to similar aspects of Everdell, are preferable and why?
    I am sorry but I don’t get any answer to those questions in your list. You may prefer them to Everdell, which is totally fine to me, but if you title your vid claiming these x games are better than this y game you at least should say why they are.
    Finally, some of the things you seem to value have little sense to me. Pick My Lil Everdell as an example. You say it should be better than his big brother because there is a fixed #of workers and you can play cards only after placing a worker. I would say that is the very reason why My Lil Everdell is inferior to Everdell, where one of the main features is stretching the seasons and especially the first one as far as you can. I would dare you to ask your group of adult friends to play My Lil E. instead of Everdell and see what they would choose. I bet they would go to Everdell.

    Hi Ben. I have to say many board game reviewers are fun but shallow. You have a lot of depth in your vids and I love your rating system.

    There may be many games better than Everdell, but, if you play Everdell and really like it, then it will be hard to find a better game than Everdell for you. Its a 'like It a lot' or 'like it a little' game, its difficult to find middle ground, and its very personal. For me and my family, its the favorite, but for any other I recommend play before and find for yourself. Its not just the game, its the whole experience it provides, and that experience depends on each person perspective.

      True. I enjoy finding games that are lesser known, as Everdell is pretty common. There is another game that I would have put at the top of this list, had it been out at the time I made this video. Check out Wondrous Creatures. It is VERY similar to Everdell.

    Not tried all of these suggestions, but I did not enjoy Creature Comforts and I would never rank it above Everdell. Just not for me and I would never choose to play it again.

    If you are looking for a game better than everdell then you should buy everdell 😅

    Do you think its possible to play a variant/house rules version of Everdell to make it faster/streamlined like “My lil, Everdell “? Trying to figure out if I can just pick up the original and dumb it down when playing w/ the kids. 😂

    • @theperfectboardgame
      @theperfectboardgame  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I haven’t tested this, but here is my thought: go through the deck of Everdell cards and remove any card with a complex effect. I don’t have the deck memorized by any means, but the crane and the fool come to mind. Basically: you want cards that your kids can understand. Secondly, everyone gets three workers at the beginning of the game, they never get more, and production happens at the end of every round, with four rounds total. No one holds a hand of cards, everything is open. This is important because it will allow kids to ask you what a card does and with only the meadow, everyone will benefit from seeing the cards and hearing the explanation.
      On a players turn, they can place a worker and buy a card.
      Here’s where I would get creative: original Everdell had stones as a resource. I would imagine this is going to make it harder to buy a card every turn. To adapt the game, allow players to either buy a card OR occupy a building with the character who fills the building. This might work, but you will have to test it and adjust which cards are removed from the beginning of the game. It might also help to give players some starting resources since cards in the original game are generally more expensive than cards in MLE.

      @@theperfectboardgame Wow wasn’t expecting such a detailed reply with great recommendations thanks😊. I just picked up the regular version at Target with their sale, came out to about $45 so same price as the kids version. I’m going to have to solo this a couple times to figure it out and definitely apply some of those suggestions.

    Just found your channel. Subbed!
    We’ve got a series of videos we’re doing on Everdell because we got the big collection. But it’s certainly not my favorite game by any means. We’re having fun working through the expansions though, and seeing which ones improve the base game.

    I find your titles to be a little clickbaity. You highlight some good games. Some great games. But these games are not better than Everdell. They are mostly completely different good games. You would be more honest with “Hey. Like Everdell? Try…”

    • @theperfectboardgame
      @theperfectboardgame  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s fair. It’s also a great recommendation. While I hear you, many people have asked me to make another video like this. When I do, it will likely have “better than” in the title. It’s not because you haven’t made a great point, but because that is a recognizable common thread for all the videos in this series.

    • @theperfectboardgame
      @theperfectboardgame  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean, Everdell has downtime too. I absolutely agree. Creature Comforts is a good game if you are ready to chill. Like I said: “appropriate to play to a soundtrack of ambient nature sounds.” But I do think the dice mechanic is very interesting and deserving of recognition.

  • @XTCyan

    I was interested in Arborea but I really don't like how the board just has every color without a main color scheme. Which is a shame because the box art actually looks amazing (it gives me Root vibes).

    • @theperfectboardgame
      @theperfectboardgame  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Meh. I'm not sure how I feel about the color, but when I first saw it, I was turned off by how chaotic it looked: just twisty paths everywhere. As I get to know the game, the board bothers me less and less.

    hello... you are too good... are very thorough with your games...I almost bought everdell...
    I already have the game Meadow which is a bit like this... build your meadow area with all the landscapes the animals the nature...
    I would like a game that is quite different from Meadow...
    the games you offer are much more interesting than Everdell without having bought the extensions... which makes the whole = Oak... ...Everdell is too childish the fact of placing an imposing tree... Oak is perfect... the druidic atmosphere and the back of the cards I love the symbols... options... lots of possible actions... I found much more interesting!
    Arborea I think is the must... I like that it is a deeper richness.
    Bravo for your investigation.. is that I am looking for a person as it is so rare!
    If you can research simulation/adventure/campaign games with a small resource management and narrative option... vibrant and fun and I could die laughing without an app.
    Sleeping gods
    Robinson Crusoe
    This war is mine
    roll player adventure
    I would love to hear your experiences with these games...
    these are my pre-selections but not yet bought... because I am looking for other similar games but better...
    The rest I don't like the gloomhaven universe... etherfields... avalon fall... Middara..the games with app = destinies...
    I thank you very much for this, happily and playfully.

      Thank you so much. I am glad you found this useful. As far as your recommendation: adventure games aren’t really my expertise. I am into Euro games and family games so I would not be able to offer a very informed analysis. The best recommendation I can give you is a Euro that crosses into campaign/narrative. It’s called Revive. You might enjoy that.
      My biggest issue with the adventure games is that you really have to play them a LOT to appreciate the story. I prefer playing a lot of DIFFERENT games.

      @@theperfectboardgame Hello.. Thank you for your answer... it is indeed exciting with the games. The narrative/campaign/adventure games are immersive for the serious gamers who have a lot of free time... which is my situation... which also allows a great replayability infinite...
      I'm going to check out the revive game.
      I'm discovering the roll/flip write games that can be restarted on new blocks that look very interesting without having to unpack too much material that doesn't take up much space.
