I buy through the dealer a manufacture extended warranty with a full service contract. I only pay for fluids, and normal wear type parts. Under the contract I am not allowed to do anything myself to the vehicle unless it is an emergency situation. When I bring in the vehicle for service they give me a loaner if they have to keep the vehicle for more than 1 hour. I often take a contract for 6 years or 100K miles.
On my last vehicle, under the duration of the service contract they changed the transmission, some suspension parts, and ABS control module. I got my money's worth.

Honest (if not completely inclusive) review. The real stat that needs to be revealed is how many of the vehicle warranties purchased are actually USED beyond their value ? Otherwise, take the same money and put it in an investment that is liquid. Then if the car breaks down, you have money to fix it. If it doesn't....you have money for a NEW car.
Cars like Subaru, Honda, Toyota etc are very reliable cars with low repair costs. To me.....extended warranties for these don't make sense.

I can vouch for Fortegra. I've had 4 instances in a year and a half that I've had to use their insurance went they don't bat an eye at claims. The only issue is that they have a dealer Network and they don't sell to the general public. In other words, you can only get it through an authorized auto dealer that has sold a vehicle. It would be nice for people to share other company's that aren't scams

Come on people, wake up! With the money you pay for the premium of this "unknown" policy, you can "deposit" that same money into your own account and most likely have the funds to pay for repairs and maintenance when needed and not have to "hope" the repairs are covered by their policy which in so many cases are NOT. OR you can put the money saved toward a BETTER VEHICLE!

Sir! Factory warranty covered 3years or 60000 right? Whichever goes first and my questions is are they replacing oem parts? Sir! Buying extended warranty after the factory warranty? And are they going to replace oem parts as well? Can i call the dealer before my Factory warranty expire and tell them I need extended warranty and add the $$$ whatever the cost of warranty on my monthly car payments? Thanks!

    • @PearlJamFanLV

You can add a factory warranty before either the original warranty is in place, or while the extended warranty is already in place. Be sure to go with manufacture rebate, much better than aftermarket.

Of course, being the finance director of a car dealership, Mr. Benedicts isn’t exactly a neutral, unbiased person. It’s his job to sell service contracts. What he doesn't tell you is that most service contracts only cover the things that almost *_never_* go wrong with cars. Typically they only cover things like “internally lubricated engine parts” - i.e., the pistons, the connecting rods, the crankshaft, the camshaft, etc. Those things almost never break.
Don’t ever get a service contract that just lists what’s covered. It will look like a long list, and it’ll makes you think you've got good coverage. But cars have *_thousands_* of parts, and as sure as night follows day, when something on your car breaks, that part won’t be on the list. If you _must_ get a service contract, get one that at least purports to cover everything and then lists the exceptions, rather than the other way around (that is, a contract that only lists what’s covered). That way you'll have a better chance of your needed repair being covered. (But still, always be sure to carefully read the list of exclusions before buying the contract!)
A comprehensive service contact that covers most components on your car (no service contract covers _everything)_ will of course be very expensive. It may not be a good deal. But a cheap contract is even worse - it’ll be almost worthless, because, as I said above, it will only cover the kinds of things that never break anyway. So your choice is basically between a so-so deal (an expensive but fairly comprehensive contract) and a bad deal (a cheap contract that covers almost nothing that is actually likely to break).

Vehichle service contracts are NEVER a good buy for consumers. That’s why companies sell them. Take the money you would spend on a service contract & put it into an emergency fund to take care do repairs IF you need them. If you can’t afford to service your car, then you can’t afford the car.
