@@ayushanand4582 Really interesting question. iPad supports external mice, but I don't know for sure if it recognizes pen events and attributes (pressure, tilt, rotation) through them. The underlying event (NSEvent) in macOS unifies both mouse and tablet, and the iPad uses a variant of it (UIEvent). Guess you'll have to plug one in and try it out! I would, but my Wacom tablet isn't with me, and it's old enough to be USB-A.

Your TH-cam channel, over the years, has shown me that there are more options than just the popular expensive stuff to do digital art with. Knowing about the cheaper options helped me save for a much cheaper screen tablet to do the work I like until I was able to afford my first Wacon One tablet. Now that I got the experience of drawing on my Wacom screen display, I am confident in my new goal for saving for an ipad air to make web comics and write fictional stories. Your channel also got me into looking up drawing tablets and building the motivation to get those tablets. All I want to say is thank you.

I went from a 10.5 inch iPad Pro (2nd Gen) to a 5th Gen iPad Air (a week before the new ones were announced), and I don't miss the Pro Motion display. The only real appeal the Pros had for me at that point were more storage options, and I'm very deliberate as far as what I put on my tablet. No streaming, one or two small games that I rarely play, and if I want to edit video, I've got a Mac for that.

Yes. I have the 10.5 model and the battery is awful, it’s starting to glitch a little, and some apps won’t update on the software . I decided to get the 11” M2 air in 256gb and I’m loving it all the way. I don’t miss the 120 display. But I got an ESR pencil rather than the expensive Apple pencils because I use it for note taking and work. I don’t need to pay extra for a pencil.

Funny story, someone I work with gave me a free Apple pencil (2nd gen) 3years? ago. Fast forward 3 years, I discover Walmart has the 9th gen iPad on sale for $250 right now (new, not refurb). Of course it doesn't work with a 2nd gen Pencil! Well, Wally also has the 5th gen iPad Air for $400... No regrets! Drawing on the Air is AMAZING.

I am upgrading from my iPad 8th Gen. Mainly for using it for streaming movies, TH-cam, etc, but for work as well. The 8th Gen's ram is starting to struggle and it was a good iPad for the years I have had it. I hope this one will last a lot longer. I got the portfolio case, but from JetTech on Amazon. Good case for the price! I have one on my 8th gen.

Hey, thanks for the great content!
Do you think the 11-inch iPad Air 6th Gen and the Apple Pencil Pro will work for someone who's brand new to Procreate? I plan to use the setup mainly for calligraphy, graffiti-inspired stuff, and somewhat simple drawings and sketches.
I'll also use the iPad in my Glidegear Teleprompter, which doesn't fit a device larger than 11 inches. Should I go through the hassle of changing the teleprompter for the 13-inch, or will the 11 be just fine? I am also kind of on a budget. I'll be happy if you answer.

I’ve been using ipad pro 10.5 for about 6 years. I don’t have a laptop so it’s my main device and I’m using it for about 5 hours a day. Right now I’m considering between ipad pro 11 m4 and ipad air 13. The tandem oled screen looks so amazing but i mainly use ipad for youtube, web browing and read some comics so I think ipad air 13 isn’t a bad choice at all. Ipad pro 10.5 is 120Hz so if I use ipad air 13 with 60Hz, will it be noticeable? Which one do you think I should upgrade?

I'm running a 2017 12.9 Pro, and it works fine, I love it - well as much as I can for someone who is PC and Android loyal, but they don't have procreate nor the responsivness of the Pencil. I wanted to ask what video editing apps you use, as I heard you mention it towards the end of the video?
I'm wanting to integrate more on to the ipad and likely upgrade to the Air 11, for travel more than anything but the new features like the hover and barrel make it kinda enticing and may make it the new daily. I look forward to your reply! Thanks for the great and comprehensive flick.

I just received the Air 13" two hours ago, the Apple Pencil Pro will come later today. The main difference I notice is the 60hz refresh rate; when using any app not so much, but when using any interface gesture or animation, it's quite noticeable.
For me the colors are more than enough. I compared it to my M1 with mini led and my iPhone 15 Pro with Oled. The main difference is in light tones and this happens on any IPS non HDR screen, much brighter and contrasted on the best displays. Other than that, it's almost the best IPS screen I ever used, I guess it will be enough for most of people. Note, first thing to do: deactivate True Tone.

Does the new hover/roll/etc make Sidecar more usable as a drawing tablet replacement for Mac?
I primarily draw directly on my iPad, but occasionally it would be nice to connect to my MacBook and use it as a drawing tablet for the Mac. Right now I’m just using a low end Intuos, but the iPad would feel nicer if it actually has good feature parity now?

13inch model is kinda tempting, but for now I think I'm good with my 5th gen Air I just got last month. I just don't know if the Apple Pencil Pro is something I care enough to buy over my Apple Pencil 2 and my older Air which I've already come to love.
I turned off the Apple Pencil's double-tap, too. Ditto for the button on my S-pen Creator Edition. They just feel like they "get in the way," as Mr. Colbow says, which is strange since I used the two buttons on my Wacom pens a whole lot.
That's wild HOW MUCH you can do with "just" an iPad, now. It's amazing to me that you can do something like editing a professional-looking video on such a small-slim device.

Same! 2020 12.9 512GB. Upgrading to the M4 is crazy expensive, especially considering the cost of buying all the new accessories. (I’m also in Tokyo, and the weak yen makes it an even tougher pill to swallow. ) I keep entertaining the M2 Air just so I can keep using my Magic Keyboard, but I just can’t do it. I think for the price this is one of the best tablets available. I know it can add up quickly with accessories, (at least the old magic keyboard is compatible if you have one) but when it is all said and done this is a great device for art and illustration, even great as a laptop replacement if your not doing anything crazy on your laptop.

Thank you, Brad!! Been waiting for your review of the iPad Air - sounds like a great device. Your videos are always super helpful and fun to watch!
QUESTION: I’m upgrading from a 1st gen iPad Pro (12.9) and couldn’t find any info about the refresh rate online. I’m guessing with the M2 processor I won’t notice much of the lag you mentioned in regards to the 60 Hz vs. 120 Hz as the whole device will probably feel a lot faster and smoother in comparison?
Definitely want the new pencil so debating between the Air and the Pro…
Any advice of the community is much appreciated! 😊

Once you get in the zone of drawing you really don't notice it. Like Brad says, the apps are optimizing the experience of the Apple Pencil, it's definitely more than capable.

Any new iPad users, has anyone been having delay input issues with their Apple Pencil Pros? It’s been a big issue whenever I use Procreate to where it has this late bleed in effect delay to it giving it an unnatural feeling to draw. Anyone know what’s the cause of this issue and whether if I have to change my iPad for a new one?

I think the 11inch is more manageable when reading (I have an 11inch pro) and definitely more portable than the bigger 13inch. When I draw on my iPad I don't feel like I lack any space and it's definitely worth saving your money and go for the 11inch.

I would like to see how an iPad replaces a computer, especially for an artist or animator. Personally, once procreate dreams came out the iPad has been my go to for animation and digital art, and it works perfectly, even if I’m using a 4th gen iPad Air, that doesn’t even use the M1 processor. Looking forward to that video.

Brad, for a long term investment as an artist, is it better to get the Pro or the Air? I’m upgrading from 2018 Pro. Still work just fine except for the battery, but I need that barrel roll feature. Anyway, my 2018 pro practically paid for itself in a year from the amount of money I got from projects I completed using only the ipad and procreate. So I’m thinking more on the line of long term investment rather than features. Like if I get the M4 pro, I would not need to upgrade until M10 come. But with M2 Air, I might need to upgrade when maybe M7 or M8 comes out? Is that make sense?
