Prize pool, location and audience/popularity aside, I would say that the osu! world cup is still a really good e-sport experience.
You have the best players from every country fight for the title as the best country in the world, its really serious and there are those insane moments that are immortalized forever, like Poland's win in 2017 or how Bubbleman just barely brought the UK team to tiebreaker by less than a 100 points in 2018. It happens every single year and is always one of the most hype events in osu!
However, I understand what you mean by the Drenched program is much more closer to an e-sport experience than owc as theres a much bigger prize pool, a much bigger audience and was much more intense than owc considering that it was a 1v1 tournament.

I feel like most people probably won't understand just how ridiculously hard the last map is, so, as a casual osu! player, I'll try my best to explain:
On this map, the players are using a combination of the mods Hidden, Hardrock, and Doubletime. Hidden doesn't really matter here, but the other two mods are where the true difficulty comes in. Hardrock makes circle size smaller, increases the rate at which the circle appears and disappears, flips the screen upside down, and tightens the hit window for clicking a note accurately. The other mod, Doubletime, in addition to speeding up the map by 1.5x, also increases the circle's approach rate and tightens the hit window. As a result, when these players are using Hardrock and Doubletime together, the approach rate becomes so incredibly fast that most players, even skilled ones, would not able to accurately aim at the circles before the hit window. This is known as AR11 and was once thought to be impossible to play. As for the hit window, the level of accuracy with this mod combination makes clicking any circles accurately basically impossible, so the fact that Vaxei still maintained a 97% accuracy even while hitting short streams means that each of his inputs was very precise without even a slight mistake beyond the time that he missed.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Osu!, is in fact, osu!. The game has an all-lowercase name, mirroring its creator Dean "peppy" Herbert's habit of avoiding capital letters online. In a similar vein, many components of the game and related projects also have lowercase names, such as pp, the four gamemodes (osu!standard, osu!taiko, osu!catch, and osu!mania), and lazer. Due to many people habitually capitalizing the first letters of given names and being unfamiliar with names containing punctuation, this game is often incorrectly called "Osu!", "Osu", or even "OSU!". There really is an Osu! - the name is an abbreviation of Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, a rhythm game for Nintendo DS that inspired peppy to make osu!. The circle clicking game people know today is osu!, with three lowercase letters and an exclamation mark.

chocomint's Made of Fire HDDT 98.54 full combo. Without a doubt, one of the most impressive plays ever set in osu! history, but one that takes some experience to appreciate fully. In the 12 years that this map has been ranked, chocomint's score remains the ONLY DT FC, and there's much more to unpack about this score. While some maps easily convey how difficult they are through the raw aim, or speed requirements, Made of Fire is much more nuanced than it may seem at first glance. To help illustrate just how difficult this play is, I would like to break down and analyze aspects of the map and the play itself. Right off the bat, we get a sense of the density of the notes, and the reading difficulty associated. With DT applied, the map becomes around 243 bpm, and approximately AR 9.67, a higher note density than most players are used to. Still, this should be manageable, but adding to the difficulty is the constant rhythm of, and spacing of the patterns which continues for the entire map. These would already pose a significant challenge to players' rhythm sense, reading, and finger control, but with hidden, the reading becomes MUCH harder. This is all bread and butter to someone like chocomint, who plays maps with similar patterns all the time, but everything we've gone over is just the beginning. Ask any top player what the hardest part of Made of Fire is, and they will all say the aim control. Many of the patterns in this map are continuous with strange velocity and angle changes, which need very fine adjustments in a player's aim to hit. None are more apparent than the various zig-zag patterns, which appear in the highest spacing sections. These require a player to aim to each note in a 1/4th beat time window, while potentially changing to an almost opposite direction. This is where chocomint shines, as almost no players have the level of aim control which he does. Bringing it all together is where the magic of this play really lies. DT alone makes the aim control barely in reach for any other player, but adding hidden makes these highly control-intensive patterns nearly impossible. Following the rhythm on such a map can be hard already as well, and trying to keep high accuracy, given the layout of the patterns, becomes ridiculous too. The real challenge is diverting focus between the aim aspect and the tapping aspects of the map, while keeping your reading in check as well. Keeping up with the map the entire way through to such a degree is exactly why chocomint's play is so astonishing. It's hard to put into words how much skill goes into a play like this, but to get an idea, I recommend trying the map for yourself. chocomint's HDDT score truly is in a league of its own when it comes to the aspects described earlier. Just over 2 years after it was set, some players are now approaching DT FCs, but not with nearly as high accuracy, and the majority lacking hidden. For now, it will remain a dream play for every top play, and a reality for chocomint. Hopefully this video has given you some more insight into, and appreciation of, one of osu!'s best plays of all time.

chocomint's Made of Fire HDDT 98.54 full combo. As fellow fan of rhythm games myself, I think it'd be really cool if you did a stream/video of you going to the nearest Round1 and trying all the rhythm games there
ie: sound voltex, beatmania iidx, wacca, DDR, chrono circle, gitadora, etc

massive gap in that last map though. I've only played osu abit and dang skill ceiling really is high when the score gap is that massive. I noticed that being an all-rounder is such a massive up especially in the case of vaxei, jack of all trades but master of all skills. Fiery's comment on Arnold being better in speed versus vaxei was definitely seen though.
he hasn't lost a 1v1 tournament in how many years again? Thats crazy to me.
From reading the other comments it seems that he just comes back to playing when a tourney is coming up which is also just unreal that his winstreak is this long.
Anyway great hype and hope to see vaxei's performance in the new tourney (if he joins) cause I'm a fan of this Chad of a player

this mod combination is a really niche skillset, if you don't specialize in 3mod it's nearly unplayable. more to do with mod proficiency than skill ceiling, both players can play much higher star rating.

3 mod is impossible if you haven’t put hours into it before, Vaxei can somewhat read 3mod and has 3 mod farm FCs
