Get a 1/4" metal drill bit and increase the number of airholes in the facia. You want to insure there is no insulation over the facia blocking air-flow. Drilled 18 holes per foot piece of aluminum facia. This pretty much eliminated my Summer air conditioning expense. Ten holes per foot helped, but needed eight more for adequate air flow on calm, sunny humid days.

What about water heater ventilation? Asking b/c I’m having low level carbon monoxide due to crappy old air vent on roof and about to replace it. Should I get a spinning one or something else? The CO issue only seems to happen on windy wet days and I’m convinced this is the root cause

Nice! Is there any device I can add to a solar fan that I can turn on or off without having to go into the attic?

Any thoughts on the cheap 5 watt solar vent?

I have a modular home built 60 years ago with no roof vent and the inside ceiling gets very warm in the summer (vacation home), I like the idea of a turbine vent, I can add a gable vent on the back of the house. the one issue I have is insects, wasps especially they will get into any small hole they can. I'm concerned that the opening of the turbine and the hole in the roof will allow them to make nest in the attic space. any suggestions on preventing this?

Check with vent manufactures. Some come with a cover or screen to prevent this.

I read that solar powered vents don't work at night and will still need to be plugged in for them to work at night?

Solar won't power the fan at night, but passive airflow still occurs through the vent. Passive airflow will allow hot attic air to escape at night. I have a solar fan which stops at sundown, but by morning in the summer, the attic is as cool as outside. So, I have found that providing nighttime power to the fan, like with a battery, is not needed. I have a remote sensor in the attic which allows me to track temperature and humidity.

@@slydog7131 I had the box vents replaced with turbine vents, my roofer highly recommended them and even threw them in for free. I definitely notice a difference and personally I think they look cute. I like watching them spin from time to time.

I use 40 watt solar powered attic fan. Any time temp is over 75 in attic fan kicks on. Paid 240 amazon. Best investment I ever did.keeps my 2nd floor much cooler than before and basically it will pay for itself over time saving the money on a/c

What type of attic ventilation is best for areas at risk of wild fire?

We always like an active ventilation system.

Solar-powered vents are still electric, they just generate their own electricity instead of getting it from the home's electrical system.

Actually from what I read, ridge vents are more at risk in heavy rain as the rain could blow right into the vents
