      Didn't in GoW3 show Kratos dropped on his weapons on the ground after he stabbed himself with the Blade of Olympus? I think he abandoned all his weapons except the Chaos Blades. The Blades simple because he couldn't; they were "attached" to him through not just his arms. I think there was material that said Kratos tried to discard the blades several times, but they always reappeared at some point later.

Here Sindri says fire of those blades is a great disinfectant making them very hygienic. Surely the fire evaporates and cleans up blood from the blades, so I wonder if that's an overlook in the script or Kratos simply refuses because he remembers how many undeserving died from those or something.

      Fimbulwinter is only winter in Midgard. Its general effect on every realm is how it messes with magic and wears most things down. This is also why there's those rune specters ("all that dissipated magic has to go somewhere") and why Kratos unlearned some of his combat perks between the two games.

    I remember that in a MegaMan comic, Megaman has to remove all his weapons and upgrade because the more weapons he has the more he loses his human-like programming.
    In another different game the government took all the Hero protagonist's gears to pay from all the damages he caused saving the world.
    And in another the hero was forced to sell his to pay for the bills.

    I don't think they are solid explanations, since they are magical weapons, I feel there should have been an in gameplay cause, like how previous games do it, I think the beginning with freya should be the explanation of why Atreus doesn't have his light and thunder arrows, while thor first fight and explanation for the blades and axe damage, since zeus in god of war 3 shows the weapons can get deform if they receive a powerful attack. and they used that fight as an explanation of Kratos using different shields now

    • @kade-qt1zu

    • @taddad2641

      Actually fimbulwinter eroding things physicla and magical is a major plot point for several things.
      Freya regains her ability to defend herself and releases much of her own power thanks to fimbulwinter eroding the curses placed upon her by odin, though it took much pain and effort to be free still. Other magics and enchantments get frozeen away as a result too.
      so yea it affects things physical and magic.

    • @marshalltaylor8311
      @marshalltaylor8311 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a solid explanation. Fimbulwinter wears down all things even some of the curses Odin put on Freya so it also affects magic, just because Kratos gear is magical items does not mean they are protected from its effects

    • @Sassaparilla
      @Sassaparilla ปีที่แล้ว

      Last game pretty easily explained how the bow lost its power. There's a set amount of energy in the bowstring, that Freya had used up herself. That energy was constantly used up by Atreus in a relatively short span of time, and likely far more over the span of three more years. Fimbulvetr likely exacerbated this loss of power as well.

    These last 2 GOW games really put effort into giving little explanations for the game-y parts of their world, or making the narration feel like part of the game. All the navigation markings on climbable surfaces were put there by a future-seer, Atreus being in his righteous puberty phase blocked your controller inputs for him, you need to level and buy gear again because of Fimbulwinter. These things are not necessary, but they can really heighten your immersion and enjoyment.

    That is still one of those gameplay mechanics that no developer has solved to my satisfaction when it comes to sequels. If you have a level tree for weapons and skills I want the RPG approach and keep all my experience from previous games. Like in the classic D&D games like "Baldur's Gate" where they solved this by capping the first part at Level 7 and then made the sequels from level 7 to 20.
    This relevel approach was especially narratively stupid in the Tomb Raider reboot. The first game solved it so well, by having a newbie Lara having to learn survival skills on the Island. And then the sequel comes and she has lost almost all of those skills again...

    I appreciate that for once we’ve been granted an explanation as to why our weapons and magic deteriorate. I mean, for the last game there is an explanation presented here. Freya says that Kratos’ powers died when Greece did, as well as due to Zeus draining his power. However I wonder what empowers the Blades if that’s the case. In God of War 1 Kratos’ power level decreased after COO probably due to Kratos not properly maintaining it, or the affect of the magical powers are limited, or overtime these powers are absorbed into Kratos’ essence, thus his power gradually increases overtime.
