- For the past 35 years, Levi lived in the city, in a flat with central heating. But he always felt that something was missing. He missed a deeper connection to nature.
And so he decided to live wild. Today he lives in a tipi in the forest in a remote part of New Zealand. He has taught himself to hunt, forage and make fire.
He believes that living wild isn't about surviving, but about thriving!

That's because we can't. We are part of Nature! I think often humans forget this..especially those living in cities tend to..I think the unhappiness alot of people feel is due to this disconnect.
He has such a lean sinewy body that comes from his diet and environment, even being shoeless increases his groundedness tenfold...what an amazing man to respect that he cannot force his beliefs on his children aa they need to walk their own path too...thank u for sharing yr story 🙏❤💯💖

I LOVE that you said..."My life has found purpose and there is amazing freedom in that".
WOW, no matter what I did in the city, I always felt like I had no purpose. When I am alone on nature, my purpose to just BE is so clear.
I transitioned from the real world to a wild lifestyle when I faced homelessness and decided to embrace it rather than get dictated to by it. I live in a vardo with my two dogs and, share my life with the gang (five goats) and BIll my bull, who I am working with to become my 'horse' so we can travel.
I've lived off grid for nearly fifteen years and extreme off grid for just over four.
The best thing that I ever did!

This video is an answer to prayer! I am still a few short years away from retirement but wistfully wondered if I can somehow begin living that slow and mindful life sooner. @@Vintagebeliever that's what we did when we were kids. Playing outside all day, running around, wandering the woods, catching frogs and reptiles. Don't really see a lot of kids playing outside these days if it's not something structured like football practise.
I'm transitioning as well. I am spending a great deal of time outdoors, making a fire and spending more nights sleeping outside. It's becoming unbearable to be in the city. I'm much more comfortable outside, but still have much to learn and that is so stimulating.
I imagine myself being with him.. what an incredible experience to be connected with nature...

I always thought about living in the forest. Living in a city has weakened us to depend on the city for what we need. Living in the forest you have to rely on yourself for what you need becoming stronger in every way. A simple way of regaining the strength that we lost from living in the city. I encourage you to keep living your dream and regaining the man that the city took from you. I encourage anyone that walks this path to learn what you're made of. I think this path is what a lot of people thinks about and probably never tell anyone being afraid of being ridiculed over. We need more real men that's not afraid of discovering the real man that you are or woman. Besafe

Whst a lovely balance. This man sounds like a good husband and Dad.
No snow, no ice, no humidity and all that goes with the tropical rainforest- I can understand why so many Australians and New Zealanders live immersed in their natural environment.
I'm a New Zealander. New Zealand has a temperate climate, it's nowhere near tropical. It's where I'd want to be if I were to live like this though. No snakes, very few spiders, leeches or ticks, unlike the part of Australia I live in now.
This is what I partly practiced and dreamed of in my childhood. And there is still this longing, that I can‘t/ want to follow because of my family obligations (the people I really love).
What‘s left is hiking in nature and going barefoot as often as possible, also living a quite minimalistic life in „normal“ circumstances (living in the city, having a job etc.). And growing a bit of vegetables on my balcony. And keep all my senses open (it can be very painful in a city and workplace) to stay connected to nature in my actual life as much as possible.

Sometimes you have to be a bit selfish by choosing some of what makes you happy. Quite often the ones you worry about can come around to seeing the things you are most passionate about. It is not ungodly to want to live the life your spirit calls for. Remember...you are going into that grave all by yourself! Love yourself a little more💕
Weeds are only plants that grow where we do not wish them. Nothing such as ‘weeds’.😀
Whats your opinion on invasive weed species that actively destroy our ecosystems? Japanese knotweed for one.

I feel exactly the same. As a single parent of 3 kids, must provide them in this point of life. But when they are grown ups, Im gonna leave this house and start living outdoors. 😁✌🏻

I wasn't sure how I felt about this video. Ultimately, I assume he is only able to follow his chosen path because he has a willing wife or partner who can be relied on to bring up the children and look after the house (where he records) and so on. Sorry, but it's all a bit 'same old, same old'. I will revise my views if I see a video of a woman travelling her own path whilst her husband provides childcare and household duties.

As a woman,74 years old, I realized that I always wanted to get out of the city. I should have done my move when I was younger. I know I could have survive on my own. I also believe I can do it today. I just need the financial means to get the supplies I would need out there. I love nature and also painting is my passion, I would create the most beautiful moments in such an environment. But it's not possible right now. Be happy and enjoy your journey in the woods. Keep your freedom and peace.

Here's the thing, this kind of lifestyle is very hard, I don't think many people realize how difficult it is. sure, native Americans lived in rhythm with the Earth but there were famine times people froze to death people starve to death, people died in childbirth. and this video is wonderful and I think that we should all live closer to nature but I think we should also balance that with the acknowledgment that there are almost 9 billion people in the world and we can't all spread out and live a wild life. so what's the balance? That's what we should be asking ourselves how do we live more in balance with nature as it is now rather than trying to go back to a lost Eden that never was?

In my opinion, it's best not to get detached entirely from nature nor from civil life, throwing oneself in the nature makes one an animal, and staying entirely in civil life makes us somehow robots or at least with 'dull lives', Balancing things was always the best thing and what makes us human, staying in civil world while keeping in touch with the nature like camping or hiking seems a better choice of life to me.
The problem is we're not civilized.
