    0:38 the whole line owes me a punch after finessing me with that 👌....
    SMH blue knights started the trend a year and a half early than everyone else

    Great book and energy! One thing that hasn't been said so far is the great dynamic control. Lots of contrast throughout and very even flow from forte to pianissimo, etc... Center snare: doesn't look like he should, or has to, care about the fact you think he is over the top. Go bro go!

      The best part about BK's percussion writing is how well it complements the hornline, but shines dynamically. I've said for a while now that BK's writing is all about dynamic control and texture.

    Man, I love the basses at 4:18! When you hear basslines split hand to hands... that's cool right?! But when you make them crescendo and have musicality, that's what separates a mediocre drumline to a world class drumline! Great season Blue Knights!!

  • @HE360
    @HE360 8 ปีที่แล้ว +43

    With the rate the Blue Knights is going, I think they're surely going to be a force to reckon with sometime in the future. BTW, this doesn't look or sound like a 9th place drumline. It sounds like they should have scored higher. But, anyway, I don't put much faith in judges anyway. I don't know why people still do.

    • @nathanreno-winters8732

      Yeah, their pit was phenomenal all year, but had a rough go at finals. I think that's what dragged (pun on the amount of ruffs BK plays very much intended) them down.

    I'm really impressed with how much better the drumlines have progressed over the years musically. HOWEVER...........There is NO individuality between the corps anymore. They all do the same moves, same bends, same flashes, and even clicking the rim at the end of playing. I admit the music had gotten better. I just wish you could tell them apart when they're out of uniform. Because they all look exactly the same.

    • @Freelancer756
      @Freelancer756 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mad Minute idk, I can definitely pick out writing styles. Technique wise, line to line is pretty different too. I guess it depends on exactly what it is you're looking at.
      I can kind of understand what you're talking about though. The thing is now a days people are marching multiple lines per year with indoor growing in popularity, so they're getting multiple types of education a year. And you also have techs and staffs going around the activity, bringing certain traits with them along the way. Things do start to meld together the longer that happens.
      I'm still super pumped about the activity as a whole though. The level of playing and design has continued to improve year after year.

    • @programmedwrong3795
      @programmedwrong3795 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Justin Plante I get what you're saying. Them working with each other throughout the winter lines is a big part of it. It used to be very very different. If you saw SCV in 90, 91, you knew it was them out of uniform. As with PHANTOM, B Devils, etc.... And I'm sure it's difficult to change completely. But, just the technique was so much different back then. Phantom slurred their rolls, Cavs played real high and tight. I don't want to come off like I don't respect, because I do. But I've noticed that I'm not the only one that has seen the cookie cutter process take over a bit. Take care

      I don't like it when people compare show bands/drum lines to corps style bands and drum lines. The two can't be compared because they both have different purposes for performing. I have friends that constantly hate on HBCU bands' brass lines because they "don't focus on good tone production or on absolute cleanliness". But the point of the bands is to solely entertain the audience. And every time I see the Southern University marching band play, I absolutely love it because they make me feel what they're feeling. The same can be said for corps style groups as well. The amount of emotion they put into what they play is absolutely amazing and I love watching it. But you can't go into a drum corps setting and expect them to perform like an HBCU band and you can't go to an HBCU setting and expect them to sound like a drum corps. They are two sides of the same coin. Both serve the purpose of entertaining, but they do it in different ways.
