i think Doug Demuro just reviewed a very similar car to this , just a couple days ago !!! Edit : He did , only difference was that Doug reviewed a convertible
I remember him saying that the convertible was the most common body style for some reason. Hence the "RARE VIG" number plate on this one (the one in this video).
@@eduardofromwiisportsresort9636 Congrats, that's pretty awesome to have one as first car. My first car was just a Ford Fiesta but upgraded to a 2008 9-3 SportCombi last year
@@BradKalkhoff First some research and a bit of soul-searching. Know the model(s) you want and their particular quirks, they all have some weak points to watch out for. Look into parts availability, budget time and money for repairs and plan accordingly. I may be a bit jaded; I've had to let my '83 sit in the garage far too long because of lack of time and energy to work on it and difficulty to find replacement parts. Newer SAABs like this 9-3 might be easier to service but have different issues like the dot matrix display failing.
Nice, I've had a SAAB 900 for several years and sometimes thought about crossing over to a 740 or XC70. I love SAABs to death but they didn't make many wagons, at least not until the GM years and those beautiful 9-5s. (There was also the classic 95 but good luck finding one around here!)
@@Xrocker7000 Awesome, that's pretty much my dream car rn! Did you get the pre- or post-facelift one? I've been watching for one in my area but they don't come up for sale often around here. I test drove an XC70 a few years ago and it seemed a worthy alternative.
Same, I was about 16 or 17 and still have all the old car magazines which reviewed it. Also have 2 9-3 convertibles parked outside, only LPTs though....!
That brace is necessary, I had similar one on mine. This is because it was built when GM owned Saab and GM, in a cost-cutting measure, did some parts-bin engineering and used steering parts from a Cavalier.
I have a 5dr Laser Red, brand new engine with 91mm Wossners. My 14th SAAB. Ten C900/900T, 9000T, etc. All I drives is SAAB and Classic BMW (535is). SAABs fly on the highway it's crazy. Thanks for the review :)
Love mine! Vert with a st3 tune and all the Genuinesaab goods installed. Huge improvement in power and handling. They made a real gem. Sensible Swedish Hotrod.
I had a silver 2002 Saab Viggen coupe .. I miss it allot. Had a ton of character. Mine had an engine rebuild using a Saab 9000 engine block after it blew a piston rod 😅 a master mechanic of the Saab persuasion did it as his own personal fun car .. loved it
Nice to see one of these. Saabs had a unique style and a lot of driver-focused engineering. Every car needs something like Night Panel. Saabs don't get enough love. They're an acquired taste but they're a car for people who know cars. I wish Saab had survived. Saab needed GM's cash and it prolonged the inevitable. If Saab had survived as an independent brand it would probably be like Polestar, making quirky EVs and maybe a moderately spicy ICE 9-3.
Great review, but a correction as to the looks - the external bodywork was basically shared with the 9-3 AERO model, as was the interior, seats etc. The only real difference apart from a few very minor details between the Viggen and the AERO was the power output (and you could also get an AERO as an Auto).
I wonder why they changed the name of their performance models from 'Viggen' to 'Aero'. Was anything wrong with the name, or they just felt it needed to be changed?
Well they had used aero beforehand, I think its just because the viggen was more limited production and had a little more done to it than the aeros that had come after it. Also I like to think it was because it was really Saab's last car before they were more heavily influenced by gm and they wanted it to be a little more special (Viggen debuted in 1999 and GM completely bought out Saab in 2000).
@@NA-en7kz Here in sweden we hade some other options polar-SE-Aero-Aero with something called salomon edition and last it was the viggen. The salomon had different seats, different interor and came with a roofbox .

He wanted to review the Blue Hatch and Zach comes in with a Silver Hatch! Doug probably seen a similar one, but really wanted to review a blue one.
yep , i think the 4 doors was the rarer variant@@damilolaakanni
I thought the same thing lol😅
I think this couple looks better than the convertible he reviewed
As a Saab owner myself I love seeing content on any Saabs. Great video as always!
Just bought my first saab (first car too) so excited to be part of the community now

What I should do?

Hahahaha you got to review the one Doug DeMuro really wanted to review, especially if it was in blue. Sadly, he only got to review the soft top one.
Driven Volvos for years, currently daily a 740 Turbo wagon. Ive never had a Saab but ive always wanted one, especially this model.

My Viggen is the oldest of all the Saabs i currently have, and it has its quirks, but is definitely my favorite to drive
I love the SAAB commercial you shared! SAAB owners know they have a valuable product.
I adored this car. It was an amazing ride
Saab's main ad slogan for a while was: Saab - Born from jets.

My friend Joe had a 9-3 of that vintage, really neat car
Hey Zack, my 06 Aero 6MT is almost back on the road. I'll send it over to you once we're done with the work.
I believe in Night Panel mode the gas gauge will rejoin when the fuel level gets low enough.
I really dig this car! Great review!

The exterior trim and seats are different from the Aero models.
You can swap them around, but you wouldn't mistake an Aero for a Viggen.
Great review!
Dude, youre always excited...
4:26 This is a GM button first appeared in the late 80's I think. I think the same switch can be found in the Lamborghini Murcielago
Hyundai flatscreen monitors were $300 in 2005. Part of my first computer build 😂
Huge Saab fan 😎🇸🇪
Nice car, and in great shape for its age. These were made after GM owned Saab, but before they ruined it.
I have no idea why but this car was featured in Forza 4. When i raced in it i would always try to imitate the torque steer that this car was known for
Stop making me want to buy old cars.
Saab was the oldmobile of europe
Super cool car!
0:34 - Since it was largely GM junk at the end, just imagine a Saab badge on a Terrain or a Yukon. That's probably what Saab would have become. 🤷♂️
Nobody mentions the 250lbs of tq...which is a good feeling
SAABs are such pleasing cars to drive at anything up to 8/10ths great stuff I love my Viggen and all the SAABs that came before it.
Wow
It is a good car

Think of the Aero as a WRX and the Viggen as an STI. The Viggen is more limited production, manual only, etc.
There was also a aero for the same car . Biggest difference is that the 9-3 aero had a 2.0 turbo engine
During the years the Viggen was available for sale, it was the top trim option for the 9-3.
