I love the look of pastels but hate the texture. Though sketchbox did send out some rembrandt pastels that weren't dusty to hold, so I'm trying to use them to ...immersion therapy my way into liking using pastels, lol.

The colours were fantastic to play with and create a dreamy picture. Ack, it's just all of the dusty particles sitting in my fingerprints which I just cannot cope with ack! I'm sure I'll use them up or pass them on to my old college friend who absolutely loves pastels!
The Rembrandt ones sound promising, I'll just have to wait and see if they make their in to ScrawlrBox one day 😁
Hi Katy, so good to see you back glad you feel refreshed and rested. I'm with you on the touching pastels, I wrap some tissue round them so I don't have to touch them. But the dust ughhhh. Hope you had a good Christmas and New Year and looking forward to all your content this year :)

Ooooh pastels really are a sensory nightmare aren't they? I've tried a wrap around them with tissue and I've also used gloves too, I think they make me more heavy handed lol

Yeah, I love buying new supplies don't get me wrong! But I've got so many sets of gouache I haven't opened yet, more than enough paper as well as all of the other supplies I haven't either used for a while or not even opened yet🤭🤭
I'm going to work through everything I've got and hold back for a good while. So no browsing Jackson's art page for me hehe!
I'm glad I've just gone down to scrawlrbox too. I do find that you get a good solid project in there and more often than not some of the items (liners and pencils) tend to replenish supplies anyway.
Now as for these pastels! I loved the vibrancy to them, I often recall using them in school and not being worth the sensory overload for the lack of colour payoff! These however were gorge! 🤩 But alas the dusty particles still settled into my fingers yuk! Hahaha! I'm glad you liked the art! It was worth the suffering heheh!

Great work Katy. I'm there with you.. pastels are not my thing. We used Contè sticks at school, that was the last time I enjoyed any pastel-y type of supply. Great to see you back and looking forward to this year for your channel x Nell.

Hehe! Pastels are quite pesky for me, however this box was still really good. A nice introduction to this medium! Plus the paper as always chefs kiss 😘
Welcome back Katy. A lot has changed since I last watched your videos. I chose to work with resin these days because I find I am really good at it. Love your work it’s so inspiring.😊
Thank you CreatingwithWinglessAngel ❤️ how exciting, I enjoyed using resin when I had my old studio. I can't really use it at my home studio because of my dog. There's lots of fabulous different things you can do with resin!

I like the idea of pastels, I hate having to handle them. It’s a shame because they’re such a quick medium, and I always like the result. Glad you’re back refreshed and I’m looking forward to what’s to come ❤
Thank you Sonya ❤️ yes I'm in agreement! They are wonderfully quick to get a visual on paper, ideal for life drawing. But goodness me the dusty bitty feedback on the hands from holding them is just yuk for me! I mean I will choose to use them now and then and have to deal with the chalk shudders, it's just no where near my go to medium lol.

I like blending pastels as long as I have a tool to use like a stump or Sofft so that my fingers don't get so dried out with all that dusty rubbing... eek. Why does that give me the shivers? It is an awfully messy medium. Anyway, lovely work. Glad to see you back at it 😊
Thank you Diane ❤️ yes! Absolutely having a tool to do the blending! I don't know why it gives a shiver inducing reaction urghgghhhh! I can mostly cope with the mess as a damp cloth usually fixes this ( I've got a plastic protective surface over my desk now so it does help with any cross contamination)

Happy New Year! Tried out some pastels as well to colour in some stamped images, but those are actually completely usless for small areas. So nothing for my use case. Or I'll give it another shot with water + brush. But I enjoyed watching you create your amazing artwork!

You know for some reason I feel that would work nicely stamping into polymer clay. I have no idea why my mind wandered into using that technique 🤣

The box was great, especially if you love pastels as these are rich and vibrant! However the dusty little devils do not agree with my poor fingertips lol we're in good company hehe

They really are a great way of quickly getting visuals down onto paper, I wish I could get past not liking the sensation of holding them as I would use them more. Don't be put off by my oddities 😅 if you have a chance to try them they may end up being a favourite medium 🥰
Love your artwork! Personally I don’t mind the feel as much as I mind the mess. Never been one for chalks or pastels because they’re just too smudgy and messy.

The mess doesn't bother me too much ( it's not on the level of glitter or guilding leaf) a damp microfiber cloth on hand keeps most of the dust in hand over the desk anyway 😁
