Happy New Year! 1 million subscribers in 2025! Why is the noise bad in the Dodge Charger and good in the G-Wagon? Is the performance that much better in the G-Wagon vs the Charger? That's an entire video by itself, let us know.
HAPPY NEWYEAR everyone! I've been in love with the car since I first saw it almost 2 years ago. It was a video from a test drive with the engineers - in the winter - up in the mountains. There was a TH-camr (I think it was a well-known German guy) with me. They put the car through a bit of everything, driving in snow, on ice, off-road, dry, snow and ice rock crawling and no matter what they put it through, it just ATE the challenge. I wish I could afford the car, but you can dream - and hope to win the lottery.
To each his own, but dogs are not a replacement for having children. You're either contributing to building the future of society by multiplying, or you're effectively playing house like children.
14:15 the purpose of the DC plugs is so that when you are AC charging in freezing climates and water gets into the exposed DC area and freezes inside you will not be able to fit a CCS plug into it until the ice thaws and melts out. Which might not be possible iif you are in a remote area where you can not indoor the car into a warm environment. Bjorn Nyland demonstrates this in a video what happens if you let the DC inlet freeze. It’s not a good time. This is a CCS design flow. Plugging in a J1772 / Mennekes will leave the DC inlet exposed to rain / snow which might freeze and impact inside so it needs to be plugged up. NACS doesn’t share this problem as the NACS plug fill the entire inlet while charging
I had one in front of me about 2y ago. They refused to drive over flat grass with 2 tires to get around a car blocking the way. .... you could see how they were afraid to leave the road ( no curb or bumps)
I’m sure there are tons of these things in places like Qatar, Saudi Arabia, etc. Not to mention they have military version of these that have been used by 40+ countries in their military forces over it's lifetime. Apparently even the US Marines had some in the 90s. Mercedes also builds the Unimog, commercial trucks, etc. They aren't just luxury cars. 🙂
The G Class is not a “roomy” vehicle. When you put your eyes on it, the rear cargo is not large at 38.6 cubic ft, but useable due to its shape. The second row does not comfortably seat 3 people across.
People buying this won't care about charge rate or range. It is a G-wagon, most people buying G-wagons have multiple other cars and they want the G as the ultimate status symbol. There is about a 1 year wait time to get a G-wagon, especially G63's. The demand has exceeded production capacity for years, so they have nothing to worry about.
I can't believe I wat hed the whole video. Great review as usual. I saw you around Santa Ana at the new charging station. Keep up the great reviews. I'll wait, but this is definitely on my list for my next EV!

Been waiting for this video Awesome way to start the New Year. 🎉 Nothing like a G Wagon. Great video Kyle & Alyssa. The G is now number one on my next EV list! 😍
The G-Class was always the last to get a piece of technology. Lane Centering wasn't offered in the pre-Facelift at all. And while this got the second generation MBUX System, the 3rd Gen is already out in the new E-Class. But the pre-Facelift didn't even have a touchscreen and still sold well. I think its just important to realize that this thing has never been and will never be about being on the cutting edge of technology
I drove the V8 G Wagon in the canyons and it is unbelievable how well they perform. Naturally, you would think they fall over, but they just drive like being on rails.
Maybe I’m the minority here but I could afford an electric G but at my home (apartment building with garages in the underground) the maximum I can install is a 11 kW AC charger. They don’t allow more regardless of money. It’s a shame because my current BMW i5 could even support 22 kW AC.
You guys are acting like this is a Rolls Royce. The cope is insane, you're just paying for the looks and badge, on the EV side of things it just falls way short.
@ I agree. Wouldn’t buy one. It needs to be a better EV at this price. Give it 22 kW AC charging, 800V with 300+ kW DC and towing capacity and it’s a winner.
Regarding range and possibly charging it is confirmed that the G-Class will be amongst the first Mercedes models to be offered with a new battery with silicon graphite anodes from Sila nano, possibly even starting next year. That will give it a few more kWhs, maybe around 140, resulting in around 20% more range and possibly some faster charging (Sila claims 20min 10-80% is possible)
This is Mercedes' version of the Hummer. What did each of their ICE versions get? 12 gallons to the miles? And each comes with a price tag to say, "this is only for those that don't care."
We got to perspectives of this review. One person ACTUALLY knows about the car and explained things properly, the other one doesn't even know how to fold down a seat and knows nothing about the car but wants it for the pure superficial basic reason of showing off.

It doesn't matter how good the G Wagen is. Offroading for most equates to the owner parking on the kerb and the vast majority will never do more than 20 because that's the top speed for trying to get seen when driving past a club.
The G is and has always been a status symbol... even the petrol version has always been several generations behind on features and comfort for double the price.
Mercedes-Benz is not only a luxury car manufacturer but also is a company geared to profit. Having only 400 V EVs is ok for its business untill 800V will be needed. In the North America only with 800 V Superchargers V4 implementation the 800 V EVs will be a norm, including for Mercedes-Benz.

$200K .. and the range anxiety still there ... and even more anxiety if you go off road ... wkwkwkwkwk... With ICE version you can bring jerrycan fuel easily to extend the range ...
@kebeleteeek4227 you can pack a few solar cells for emergency. The one car the conversion makes so much sense is the military Humvee. Without the giant transmission, it actually becomes quite comfortable.
Thank you Kyle for leading off with the critique of the G's lack of a frunk. I find it absurd that Mercedes doesn't have frunks in their EVs. As a loyal Mercedes driver it's one of the primary things holding me back from buying a Mercedes EV. The frunk is one of the greatest side effects of the EV revolution. As a company that truly understands how drivers use their cars, I can't believe Mercedes missed it. The other challenge is the charging port placement. I know Tesla set a "standard" with putting their charge ports in the back but the reality is charge ports should be in the front section of the vehicle. 80%+ of EV charging is done at home. People pull into their garages and driveways. They don't back in. I pull my Mercedes into my garage and I park on the left side. My wife parks on the right. With the current placement of the charge port on the EQ Mercedes models I would need to drag a charging cable down the middle of my garage between our cars OR drag a cable around the back of my car. It would be better to just have a charge port at the front so I could plug in with a charger positioned in the middle garage wall. PLEASE start pointing his real use case out on your reviews. Frankly, it's just lazy engineering to put the charge port where the gas tank filling tube used to be. That's NOT how EV owners are going to refuel their cars. And as you pointed out when reviewing the Chevy Silverado EV, placing the charge port at the back makes it impossible to charge while towing. In my opinion, more EV makers should follow Porsche's lead and have multiple charge ports. They are just plugs! Give people the option of charging on either side and/or on the front or the back. Mercedes has gotten everything else right in their EQ line if you ask me. The cars are true Mercedes. They are powerful, rugged, and offer the highest level of creature comforts inside. Unlike Rivian, Mercedes understand simple things like the importance of cupholders and the right placement of storages options. They understand that physical controls matter. Not everything should to be screen based. Keep up the great work Kyle. I love your reviews.
I am not into the 1970's retro styling of the G wagon. In electric version, the poor aerodynamic efficiency of the design is illustrated with the low highway range ability. For real hardcore offroad use, it certainly has the ability and would be my only reason to buy. For those that want to make the G Wagon statement on the daily school run, this does it better then any ICE version and range and efficiency is not significant detriment for that usecase. I would take a modern Rivian or futuristic Cybertruck any day over the retro Mercedes G.
Electric G, GT3 and some land sounds like the dream! I absolutely love the G for the same reasons as you but it is a bit of shame it has the reputation it does because of the people who use it for grocery shopping.
Great overview! Definitely wish that was a huge frunk. Slightly longer for larger 2nd row would be nice. Great looking EV and Mercedes should have done this years ago.

center HVAC vents area is straight from 90's boom box.. what the hell? We paid $75k for a quad motor Rivian R1s and we also have a GLE580 biturbo .. Not sure if this is worth $175k but congrats to those can afford it. Lucid Gravity would be my choice right now for urban driving.
When I see the G wagon, I see $$$$ you guys like the fact they kept the look, but I think it was the easiest way out. Isn't the whole point about range and efficiency !!! I think they could have really killed it with a sleeker design.
When it comes to rear seats leg room, Chevrolet Bolt EUV has much much more leg room vs this Mercedes-Benz G EV! Truly an illustration when rear seats room does or doesn't matter!
Ty for the video Kyle and Alyssa. and Happy new years. Nice presentation, but in my opinion I'll stick to my R1S. looks better imho, i don't care for the status associated with owning a G. The Rivian R1S is nice inside out, great driver, only missing the FSD, but that's why I have a Tesla CT. Price: 200 k, for the G,... !!! I'll get a Quad R1S when they come out for much less and sure will enjoy it more then the G. IMHO, companies who don't adopt a Tesla FSD system, will be left in the dust.
Charging port needs BMW style hinged pin covers - even my Mini Countryman S E has done away with the dingle dangle plug in favour of hinged spring loaded flaps. Oddly the new J01 Cooper S E didn’t get the flaps and still has the dingle dangle plug on a cable tie.
So basically, people will buy this or a range rover to go to the mall's ,cool G ,but overpriced, markup is prob in the price😂❤,great video u2 ,happy new year to u2 and the doggos😊
There is a growing use and appreciation for the capabilities of the G wagon. Many EV buyers will be different than the EQS crowd. Still don’t understand why mo NACS nor a usable front trunk.
Is it a different sound system in the First Edition, than what is in an ICE 550 or 63? its a Sub 700 watt burmester if so... was hoping for the 3D and 1200+ watt version, at this pricepoint, night and day difference driving an S.
The best got even more attractive! This is my car focus. I just wish Mercedes had thrown the best they had at it to make it undeniable. I wanted at least 300Miles range, better charging. Can't wait to see the Brabus version. Gorgeous colour too.
Only EV you shouldn't be buying. Gas G-Wagon, yes. But this EV G is the most inferior in it's class. Mediocre battery, charging speed, tech and overall EV appeal. Such a shame!
@@doomsday9973 lol he got the S plaid when it was 150k AND a Sprinter which is easily 180k, that is 320k for those 2 vehicles alone, in what world is 320k less then a 200k G wagon??

Early in the video you explained it takes incredibly long to develop a G class and you also ask why it has previous gen tech and not the latest Mercedes tech. I think you answered yourself already ;)
These types of vehicles including the Hummer EV are necessary to convert people who otherwise would have never looked in an EV to at least seeing what's available in the market.
45:06 Would've liked to see some drone shots of you ripping it along this trail! That would require more planning and people, but would be sweet! Though, you can get a drone that automatically follows you.
I love the new electric G, however i totally agree about the mediocre charging performance and features. The upcoming electric CLA is coming in spring and will have 800V and charge with up to 320kw, this G only has 400V and charges only at 200kw while being double the price. I can't help but to feel like the electric G already has an outdated last gen drivetrain. That is such a disappointment for such a great drivetrain. It could have been a perfect car !
A Chevrolet Bolt EUV has a simple button switching one pedal driving on or off. Both modes are complete. Looks like nobody needs one pedal in a G Wagen.
Reading the comments it is funny. Almost no one here is on the market for a G Wagen and you can see it People who buy G Wagens only buy them because they're buying a G Wagen
My problem with the EV G class is, that it should direkt G63 Billionär people away from the status symbol. Because nearly no one uses a G für off-road or utility anymore… And that brick is about 40kW/100km 🤷♂️ It seem that they deliberately made it as competition to the G500 not the G63 Towing is insufficient aswell, people in Germany use it to tow horsetrailers…

Max regen is 1 pedal driving. MY EQS SUV is the same no "one pedal" setting.
1:18:42 Or the 6x6 AMG. Don't forget this one. 😁👍🏿
If money wasn’t an object do you choose this over Cybertruck?
center HVAC vents area is straight from 90's boom box.. what the hell? We paid $75k for a quad motor Rivian R1s and we also have a GLE580 biturbo .. Not sure if this is worth $175k but congrats to those can afford it. Lucid Gravity would be my choice right now for urban driving.
One pedal driving is practically useless if the brake pedal invokes regen braking.
Turn off regen when cruising, and enable max regen in traffic.
When I see the G wagon, I see $$$$ you guys like the fact they kept the look, but I think it was the easiest way out. Isn't the whole point about range and efficiency !!! I think they could have really killed it with a sleeker design.
I don’t mind the backpack.
Or a all glass roof
What happened to the i7 ADAS video??
Oops - just asked Jordan to get it posted to the testing channel!
When it comes to rear seats leg room, Chevrolet Bolt EUV has much much more leg room vs this Mercedes-Benz G EV!
Truly an illustration when rear seats room does or doesn't matter!
how is alyssa's taycan she bought a while ago?
She never bought a Taycan she bought an audi etron.
I think you are thinking about Kyle’s short term girl friend she bought one .
@ ahh yes “Porsche girl” lol. She was never seen again.
jeez, my old prius barely had as much peak Horse power as a single one of those motors!
But your prius also costs less than 1/6 th of this car and still carried 4 people in comfort.
@@MrTeslaX True! I do miss it.
@ try new civic hybrid or camry hybrid
@ went with a model y. Been happy.
@@JamesOliverLindsey yeah MY is a great utilitarian car.
Let Alyssa drive more! 😁 I am with her in describing my height. I am 5' 11", but my legs are more like a 6' 2" guy's legs lengthwise.
Rivian? Anyone there?
So basically, people will buy this or a range rover to go to the mall's ,cool G ,but overpriced, markup is prob in the price😂❤,great video u2 ,happy new year to u2 and the doggos😊
There is a growing use and appreciation for the capabilities of the G wagon. Many EV buyers will be different than the EQS crowd. Still don’t understand why mo NACS nor a usable front trunk.
Has the navigation has augmented reality and is HUD optional head up display
"the people in the back didn't pay for it". 😆
Kyle,is this your Sprinter replacement?
This is a bit above even his price point.
@@doomsday9973 lol he got the S plaid when it was 150k AND a Sprinter which is easily 180k, that is 320k for those 2 vehicles alone, in what world is 320k less then a 200k G wagon??
@@FrankNolf yeah and he absolutely lost his shirt on the plaid (which he has a loan for) and the sprinters start at 50k WTF are you talking about?? His trust fund only will go so far 🤣
Almost no one here is on the market for a G Wagen and you can see it
People who buy G Wagens only buy them because they're buying a G Wagen
Can I get a sunroof in this truck .?
Start at 150k and goes up-that’s a lot of frog skins
25:17 I am stealing this line unapologetically and using it any chance I get.
My problem with the EV G class is, that it should direkt G63 Billionär people away from the status symbol. Because nearly no one uses a G für off-road or utility anymore…
And that brick is about 40kW/100km 🤷♂️
It seem that they deliberately made it as competition to the G500 not the G63
Towing is insufficient aswell, people in Germany use it to tow horsetrailers…
Rivian needs to beef up thermal management of pack ASAP.
Is this Arizona? Where can I drive this dirt road?
It costs 200k... That's all you need to know.
the only EV you want!
Only EV you shouldn't be buying. Gas G-Wagon, yes. But this EV G is the most inferior in it's class. Mediocre battery, charging speed, tech and overall EV appeal. Such a shame!
14:50 as Technology Connections mentioned, the number of times he’s needed to charge his EV from
Nah man, come home later at night and need it back early morning to go work and only get half a charge back into it? For a 200k car that's ridiculous
@ the point is how much are you really draining it each day? If you’re only commuting a normal amount each day, you only need a couple hours charge each night, if even that.
@@Neberheim yea probably most times but at that price point it's unacceptable
@ that’s fair.
@@Matzesif you drive a G to work, there will be an AC charger at your private parking spot at work. Its a non issue
My next car!
Alyssa deserves a g class 🔥
for what?
When I get mine, I will have DCFC installed at home. And while it is charging, I will drive my other electric G
No one who watches this video can afford one.
Accurate
Maybe Brittney Spears is watching.
