Hello and welcome to Hill Top Terebi. In this special ‘on location’ video I travelled all the way from the UK to Tokyo, Japan in search of all things Sonic the Hedgehog and SEGA.
Tokyo is a city that I used to call home. When I lived out there, despite the rumours that Sonic doesn’t have much of a presence in Japan, I always found plenty of Sonic events to attend, and plenty of Japan exclusive Sonic and SEGA merch to buy.
But maybe times have changed? In the five years since I left, the SEGA arcades have been sold off, it’s been since months since the last Sonic game (Sonic Frontiers) released, and lingering restrictions mean that they are not many public events running at the moment.
Would I find much in the way of Sonic in Japan in 2023? Hit the play button, and let’s find out!

I really want to thank you! I had a shopping day on my final full day in Tokyo and one of my friends wanted Sonic merch. I did not have time to go to Odaiba after wasting almost half a day in Akihabara (I could've had a even worse time sink there tbh). Your clue about Yamishiroya really saved me. Thanks!

They have a Sonic section at Don Quixote, at least in Osaka they had it in May. They sold the Sonic and Friends plushies and many keychains! If you're back in Japan I recommend it!
Watching this video felt like stepping into a parallel universe. I live in the States where I have to go dozens of miles or even more to find any splatoon merch, but sonic is actually quite easy to find, even at a random local supermarket

It's a bit of a shame Sonic merch in his home country isn't more easily findable cause what they make for Japan is SO COOL. (really love the apparel)

I'm always intrigued about how fans are able to find some really uquinqe pices of sonic merch internationally and this video was no exception my personal favorite item from your haul would have to be that shadow badge that for Some reason has sonics name on it rather then shadow's

@@HillTopTerebi Thank you, it was indeed awesome!! I bought a bunch of cool merch in Joypolis and also saw a lot of cool Sonic stuff in Onoden. I spotted a few Tails and Knuckles nendoroids AND even the Soft B Sonic figure! I also saw one of the Sonic 25th's Anniversary statues for only a measely 3600 yen, but I sadly had no more space in suitcase for it :(

Hi! Glad you enjoyed the video. From memory, there's a base entry price that's very cheap (a few hundred yen) that just lets you in (which also has access to the shop) and then you can pay for attractions separately should you want to. Or there's another one which includes unlimited access to all the attractions (some of which are pretty good to be fair). Happy merch hunting!!!
I’m currently in Japan now and besides the sonic nendroid and some Sonic blind bags that were of cheap key rings, I haven’t found anything else. Will have a look at some of the stores that you suggested though. Hopefully I’ll find something!

No worries! It worked out great, I randomly found the Sonic frontiers figure in a shop in Kobe
(Similar to the shop you went in Akihabara but much smaller) for about 3000 yen and then on the anime street in Osaka, I found the exclusive 20th anniversary Sonic, can’t remember how much in yen but was about £60, I wasn’t going to get it but I thought I’d regret it and splurged anyway 😅
I did go to Yamshiroya because of your video and although the store is probably one of the best ones I’ve been too, unfortunately the Sonic stuff was very minimal with barely anything sonic left, but got a keychain anyway.
