Hey Matt i can't tell how many times i keep coming back to watch this amazing review of the 2025 civic sport touring hybrid. This is just the best review of the car and I'm really considering trading in my vehicle for this particular model.👍🏼✌🏼
I have a new 2025 Civic Sport Hybrid with about 500 miles on it now. Love the car. My only complaint is the poor gas mileage I'm getting of only around 38 MPG. This is a far cry from the advertised mileage of 49 MPG. I do mostly city driving in normal mode. Any thoughts on why the poor efficiency?
I test drove one of these last weekend and I have to say, even from my short test-drive… this new 2025 Civic Hybrid is an absolute world class vehicle. It has something for everybody in my opinion, the power and ability to add handling add-ons for the enthusiasts, amazing gas mileage of a hybrid to draw in that crowd, a phenomenal sound system and wonderful interior quality, and so much more! I hope these things sell like hot cakes and force other manufacturers to catch up with better hybrid technology!
I like your channel. You do excellent reviews! One thing I like about your channel is that you show exterior shots of the car you’re reviewing while you’re driving. It gives people an idea of what the car looks like on the road.
I think awd better mpg longer legacy sportier more unique looks more usbc ports. More options higher resale and specifically the smaller size and less cvt hybrid system when already at speed. However from a stop civic. Screams
I'm comparing this to the 2025 Camry SE since the Civic is now quite large for a "compact" sedan. The price is close and the Camry has more power, but also weighs more. (Civic 200 hp / 32xx lbs vs Camry 225 hp / 34xx lbs). The Camry also has the option of AWD.
@@user-iz3gv5vo6b I rented the Camry hybrid 2025 last week and put over 1,000 miles on it driving from SF to SD and back. It's an absolute pleasure and the mileage is in the high 50s. IMHO both of these cars are punching above their class. Totally amazing cars.
It is official. The Honda Civic is now a class of its own. Mazda does not offer hybrid power. The Corolla is nice but pail in comparison. Toyota would be better off comparing the new Camry. Actually considering the price that is very good idea.
And the next generation corolla no one’s seen yet has already been outclassed by the civic. That’s how bad Toyota is. Products nobody has seen yet are already outclassed and creamed by the competition
Recently had my car totaled (luckily not fault). I’ve been a longtime Mazda fanboi, but my fiancée dragged me over to our local Honda dealer to test some accords and civics and I was blown away. I was shocked at the quality/feel of the hybrid and the creature comforts on the interior and entertainment system. After testing a ton of other comparable cars, I kept thinking about the hybrid civic. Signed and picked it up yesterday and I am so happy. Well done Honda!
@@basstheangelo I disagree. Ford’s duct was awful, so bad it tanked their whole car lineup. VW has even replaced DCT in the new Taos. It should be applied to such specific use cases I don’t think it’s worth the effort.
I think the new Camry hybrid would make a better daily. Same MPG, roomier interior, and quieter ride for the same price (Camry SE actually slighly cheaper than a Sport touring Civic hybrid but pretty much a wash)
@@BrianNC81I drove both. The civic touring was a lot nicer, and drove a lot better. (I drove a fwd Camry) I like the sportiness and quickness of the civic better. I drove the sedan version of the civic and the back seat has plenty of space. I’m 6 foot. Was the perfect package for me.
Thank You Matt, excellent as always. I've been waiting for this from Honda. Will be taking a look at the hybrid in the metal. But not going for a first year but perhaps 2026.

An Si version of the hybird with a bit more power is definitely something I'd make if I were Honda. I'd buy one tomorrow. If Honda wants to electrify their lineup, they should and can make a hybrid car for everyone.
Driven my Touring Hybrid about 1000 miles now. Powerful and fun in any mode with great MPG. If you want a tad smoother ride and a few more amenities then fork over another 6-7K for the loaded Accord Hybrid or look into a Camry. Unless u enjoy shifting, not sure if the Si is relevant anymore. Interesting to see how much more power Honda can squeeze out of its 2mtr hybrid system….. for the Prelude???
Correction: 5:43 "Because they have an e motor that's primarily driving the wheels at all times um it's actually feeling a lot more like an electric vehicle." No, because they have an e motor that's *_exclusively_* driving the wheels *_most_* *_of_* *_the_* *_time_* it actually *_is_* *_an_* *_electric_* *_vehicle._* Not a Battery EV, like a Tesla, but a Battery and Generator EV. The exception is when a conventional car would use overdrive. Since you don't measure performance during that operation, this car performs just like an EV.
The real selling point which wasn't mentioned here is that not only do you get extra power and amenities compared to the non-hybrid version civic but the money you save in gas over time versus the non-hybrid version.
Love these. love Honda. HOWEVER, the pricing on them, at least here in Europe, is prohibitively expensive. These *start* at €39,000 which is nuts. Mazda 3 Sedan (not a hybrid which helps) starts at €26,000 and that's pricey too. Honda chose (or was forced by regulations) to sell ONLY the hybrid here. No Accords either. Love you Honda but Civic starting at 39k is insane..
You’re not the first person I’ve heard who is saddened by the absence of satellite radio. I personally can’t go back to satellite radio with heavily compressed audio. Especially because of how good the Bose is in the Civic. Apple Music with lossless is just so much cleaner sounding. Add in the fact that unlimited data is becoming cheaper and more readily available, plus a lot of new phones have upwards of 250 to 500 GB in storage if you’re in areas with inconsistent data.
I really enjoy your reviews. Which would you choose: Civic Hybrid Sport without the wireless Android Auto but has sunroof maybe $1000 more than the Prius LE?
Thanks! If power is more important than fuel economy to you, then picking the Civic probably is the better choice. Prius LE will do like 57 mpg I think.
So is the Honda upgraded hybrid system as good as the Prius? Reliability? I’m finding major pro and con details to both regarding options. Honda Leather vs Prius softex. Honda Retro looking clicky buttons / dashboard. Honda Bose stereo Prius low quality stereo. Handling, noise? I’m someone who holds on to my car until it’s worn out.
I don’t like the front end as much as before the refresh. and the wheels are the same on the hatchback. They used to be different on the top trip now they’re just identical. Wish they could’ve differentiated the hatchback top trim with some different wheels like they did last version.
The mpg seems to be like a roll of the dice. On Reddit in the Honda community there are some who tout 50 mpg like you in the video, then there are many others like myself who are not even getting 40 mpg. For the majority of the time I've had mine I've ridden in Econ mode. I drive mainly to work, which is only a few minutes away. And people continuously say that short drives negatively effect your mpg but I have a hard time being convinced that my MPG should be as low as it is no matter how I drive when they advertise 49 mpg combined. (My overall mpg since I've had the vehicle is 36.7 mpg with just under 1800 miles)
Dude, don’t try to color the Toyota Corolla LE hybrid very feeble 9.7 sec 0-60 time. It’s not even in the same country compared to Civic. The Prius 0-60 time is closer at 7.1 secs but still almost a sec slower than the Civic. Waiting for the prelude to come out.
This is a total guess, but maybe honda got rid of satellite radio because they figured those that want it would have the phone app? It'd appear on android auto and apple car play page. No clue really
That's possible, but if I remember correctly, the SiriusXM app doesn't work with CarPlay because they want you to subscribe to it in your car too. If the app does work, it also would be dependent on a good data connection, versus traditional Sirius just needing a view of the sky, so I wouldn't consider it a great alternative but that could be the logic they're using. They could also just have beef with Sirius, no other brand is dropping satellite radio.
Just purchased this same car and I can confirm the app works with Apple CarPlay. Weird that the car has the traditional shark fin antenna on the roof for satellite radio …. But no XM built into the infotainment system.

I had the same question but now after having one for a month I'd say it's not something you'd want to disable. It's really only noticeable in Sport mode but you can configure Individual mode to be Sport without the sound so the answer to your question is YES..
I think it should be close. You can check out high mileage Accords and CRVs from the last generation that had this system to see, and Facebook groups or Reddit pages should have great insight on long-term reliability.
Truly, do not appreciate the comparison of any Honda Civic SI or type R buyer to a person who would purchase a Honda Civic hybrid… Regardless of horsepower and 0-60 mph figures. My oem + modified ‘10 Si is about presents and feel… Not hypermiling or luxuriant features. These are or at least should damn well be to very different client bases always.
Road noise sounds a lot louder than the new Camry hybrid and the camry SE is slightly less expensive. (comparing an SE camry to Sport touring civic hybrid - $31,795 Toyota vs $32,845 for the Honda)...I would pick the Camry SE.
@BrianNC81 once you add the camry convenience package, moon roof package to match the features of this top level Civic trim, then the price of the camry is more and still no premium sound system. I've been researching both of these vehicles for about a month. For features the Civic comes out ahead, plus I think it looks better, Imo.

More power is nice but we have to think about replacing the battery after 10 years. Today it costs about $5k to replace the battery alone. I'm planning to keep my Civic for a long time (10+ years) so I'm sticking with a gas engine.
Understand the concern but think about this… every car Toyota( camry and more coming to the list) makes will be a hybrid and most of the honda sales are hybrids.. you will have multi millions of hybrids in the next decade.. do you still think a battery would cost 5k?
It lost its purpose tbh - it's now as big as the Accord. Why? It's supposed to be a small, super fun to drive reliable little sporty sedan. i don't get it. uber shitbox
While I've seen these on the road, they're just too low for me to comfortably enter and exit. That said, why in the world isn't a Hybrid offered in the HRV? Same platform.....
Not a 1" screen difference, but rather 2". The base 7" screen Honda uses is a joke at this point, and I feel will not age well, as most modern cars are moving to larger screens.
According to a company spokesman, "The problem is if the vehicle is in an accident, the spare tire can cause damage to the electric battery which could cause a failure in the battery.” But the company was Toyota, and the vehicle was the Prius. Yet they will gladly add them to other models. Makes one wonder where their priorities lie.
@@jeffjo8732 They can easily design the car so that the spare tire doesn't cause damage. If it's a matter of cost, for heaven's sake charge us a little extra for the spare! When you need it and an inflation kit won't do, it's absence can be a disaster.

I had the same question but now after having one for a month I'd say it's not something you'd want to disable. It's really only noticeable in Sport mode but you can configure Individual mode to be Sport without the sound so the answer to your question is YES..
@@pi.actual so I take it that the acceleration isn't herky-jerky like a slushbox? I.e. it's just a sound effect?
@@bobriemersma Yes, acceleration is smooth and linear very much like an electric vehicle.
Hybrid system as reliable as Toyota’s?
thanks 🙏
I think it should be close. You can check out high mileage Accords and CRVs from the last generation that had this system to see, and Facebook groups or Reddit pages should have great insight on long-term reliability.
Prius Awd huge
Truly, do not appreciate the comparison of any Honda Civic SI or type R buyer to a person who would purchase a Honda Civic hybrid… Regardless of horsepower and 0-60 mph figures. My oem + modified ‘10 Si is about presents and feel… Not hypermiling or luxuriant features. These are or at least should damn well be to very different client bases always.
yeah $33k for a Civic is not something i am interested in. i would spend a little more to get a BMW X1
Lol
I need to get behind the wheel of a hybrid. I can get 50 mpg in my sport 6mt. I bet I could get 75 mpg out of a hybrid. Not selling my 6 speed though.
I would take the Civic Hybrid over the Corolla Hybrid and Prius.
@@kevincambron4859 great points, definitely something to consider when it's tiime for a new car. My other thought was a used 540i - something with 50,000 miles or less on it and the B58 engine.
Wish they had a manual with the Civic Hatchback Hybrid.
That would be real hard to do since there is no transmission.
….people still use satellite radio?
Paying for low quality radio stations with no customization makes no sense to me.
As of June they have 34 million subscribers…
@@MattMaranMotoring lol how many of them are free trials when they buy a new vehicle though? 😂😂
@@Powersproductions130 That number is paying subscribers.
@@MattMaranMotoring show me your source. They’re so desperate for subscribers that they’re offering huge discounts all the time. My dad and brother get letters in the mail all the time from them offering some kind of incentive to get them as a customer. That doesn’t scream “34 million subscribers” in any way.
@@Powersproductions130 I don't care enough to debate this with you, I just googled it. If you don't want to believe that number it makes no difference to me.
Hiw does it compare to the accord h
Same powertrain, just bigger, plusher and more luxurious for Accord.
@@MattMaranMotoring from what i was seeing does the accord have 30 more lbs of tq?
Granted its heavier so i feel like it would feel the same
@@Cbrmansc77 Accord has 15 more lb/ft. 247 lb/ft there.
Civic barely fits in my garage, Accord is about a foot longer so there's that to think about.
The warranty is 10 years, that doesn't mean it has to be replaced at that time.
Honda is going to steal alot of market share from Toyota with this new hybrid civic.
How dare you cover the interior without Beth
Nice car
I have traded my 7 month old civic 2024 with hybrid touring i am getting new car today
I remember when the Civic was a nice little compact car, now it's HUGE !!! :-((((
It lost its purpose tbh - it's now as big as the Accord. Why? It's supposed to be a small, super fun to drive reliable little sporty sedan. i don't get it. uber shitbox
@@GeorgeFhore oh my god its now bigger fast and better handling oh my let me cry 😂😂😂 what exactly are you mad about
it's replaced by honda city but it's not sold in US
While I've seen these on the road, they're just too low for me to comfortably enter and exit. That said, why in the world isn't a Hybrid offered in the HRV? Same platform.....
Not a 1" screen difference, but rather 2". The base 7" screen Honda uses is a joke at this point, and I feel will not age well, as most modern cars are moving to larger screens.
Great car, great looking, great performance for the class, no spare tire, can't buy.
According to a company spokesman, "The problem is if the vehicle is in an accident, the spare tire can cause damage to the electric battery which could cause a failure in the battery.”
But the company was Toyota, and the vehicle was the Prius.
