I love this little tool. Its so small but accomplishes a TON! Never knew Dewalt stopped making these. I have like 3 laying around from the kits i bought so far. Gonna make sure they stay safe and not get lost.
DEWALT and craftsman are both owned by Stanley black and decker. The reason DEWALT quit making it and craftsman started is Stanley is pushing craftsman more currently since they acquired the company. They are made by the same people in the same building.
They probably contracted to have a certain number made. When the contract amount sold out the manufacturer was not able to duplicate the contract without a large increase in cost.
I had a Dewalt magnetic collar and I was fastening 3" screws with it. My coworkers looked at me strange and said, "You do know that made for Drywall Screws, right?" I laughed and mentioned that it magnetized the screws.

@@VCGConstruction Hello again and Thank you Vince and Vcg. I have a question for you guys. I've been researching one of my next tool purchase. I have found a Gearwrench 81235 and Sunex 8855, Both are 9-piece Magnetic universal joint sockets and Extensions. I have to admit that I like the idea. What I don't know is how much magnetic pull or field does each one have? They are both very similar in design and detail. I have called both companies and got nothing to speak of information wise. The idea is the as the Craftsman Magnetic tool you showed today. Don't drop the tool or part. So I guess the question is which one is the Best tool for me to purchase? Again thank you
Hi Vince, your absolutely right, the dewalt boxes fit into themselves awesome and very convenient, makes the job easier and faster, I’m a dewalt fan and always will be, excellent demonstration, ty, Bob,
Hey Vince wondering if you can answer a question for me. I got the M12 1/2 Stubby tool only then bought a charger and battery, now I'm looking for a case to put it all in. I found some Hard cases for sale for other model M12 guns, are the cutouts inside the case specific to each tool or are they universal? I.E. If I get the hard case from a 2553-22 will my 2555-20 fit inside? Thanks man love the videos!
I added a comment about the Makita before reading your. The Makita collar doesn't fit most of my bits...are you using bits actually from Makita or am I missing something/ possibly got a defective collar?
@@russellmeyer1 Ya gotta use Makita bits with the new silver Makita mag boost for the most part. The old blue Makita mag boost would work on just about every bit brand out there. Sometimes you can still find them for sale at online sellers.
@@russellmeyer1 I have the old blue one and I use it on everything from my Milwaukee ratcheting screwdriver with the long bits to Dewalt Maxfit bits. Never owned a Makita bit.
Dewalt still makes them… they just come in the Maxfit impact rated bit sets at Home Depot. They also come in the Dewalt Flextorq bit sets at Lowe’s but the housing is made out of aluminum (fancy). I have never seen them sold separately before, but I got all of mine from the bit sets they came in. They are great at keeping the screws from falling off!
@VCGConstruction off topic here, have you tried the Apex driver bit kits? I know they have a magnetic sleeve just like the shockwave magnetic sleeve. I grabbed some to try recently.
I bought this exact one today. I couldn't find the DeWalt one that I used to buy. I lost them a lot ... It's amazing. I gotta say I'm falling in love with Craftsman lately. They're stepping up their game to beast mode.
@VCG thanks for the new intro music. My wife has been complaining for a long time about having to hear that intro. I bought her some luggage but that didn't work.😀 keep up the good work
I was a die hard Craftsman tool guy decades ago , then they started putting garbage out ! I grew up family owned automotive parts stores and a major tool tool warehouse for the Midwest I had access to anything I didn't really need ! But Craftsman was my go to , even over my Proto tools and SK sets .
I been looking for that piece for my inpact drill when I seen the video on it when it was uploaded a while back &and come to finde out heart makes the same bite holders separately with ph2's & ph3's I think ; or you can get the bite magnetized head by it self
After using just about every bit mag out there Ive come to the conclusion that the original blue Makita mag boost is still the best! With the new silver Makita mag boost coming in second place because it pretty much only works with Makita bits which kinda sucks. Especially since Makita isnt making a 2" T40 bit that it can be used with which is a main bit I use in my work of building outdoor structures like gazebos, pergolas, and kids playsets. All the Dewalt ones work decently but I dont like how both the metal and plastic ones move on the bits while using them, and of course they pretty much only work with Dewalt bits as well. The Masterforce, and Irwin bit mags are very similar and work decently as well and can fit on various bits, but they seem cheaper made and dont seem to last as long in my experience in hard use applications like driving lags with a lot of vibration. The magnets on those will fall out or break more frequently then the others in my use. Still cant beat the original Makita mag boost imo so if ya got some keep them safe as I used to have like 12 of them and Im down to 4 all do to employees loosing them lol. Never had one break. Sure wish Makita would make them again!
would like to know how it compares to the one i current own. which is the new silver makita XPS ring magnet sleeve. its a short one, with the 3 ball bearings on the inside of the ring to retain it
@Dreamcat 4. Imo if you dont mind having to use Makita bits the Makita mag boost that you have is probably the best one on the market right now. Imo it works better then the Craftsman/Dewalt one Vince is demonstrating in the vid.
@@duncdunc76 cool man! thanks for letting me know. it did come as part of the 60 bits xps kit so have some 2 inch impact bits go with it. actually here in UK the dewalt one can only be found a part of a kit pack DEWALT DWA2SLS30 MAXFIT which is #26 GBP on amazon uk. elsewhere it seems my other future impact bits will have to be things like wera impactor. since i cannot seem to obtain the makita xps stuff anymore. at least not with reasonable pricing. shall just try the xps collar with other brands and see if it might work for some of them. thanks for the input here! appreciate it 👍
I had the same as you had from DeWalt, lost it and then I ended up getting a masterforce a while ago from Menards. It came with the interchangeable magnetic torsion collar, a double-sided square head, a double sided Philips head, and a double-sided T25 head. Then about a month ago I found my DeWalt one and compared them. Not much difference other than the color really, I'd say they got the same grip.
There is actually a few differences that Ive found in my use of both. The Dewalt mag slides on the bit shaft during use which I personally do not like and the Masterforce does not. However the Masterforce tends to come off the bit during use often especially when using it with a larger fastener bit like a T30 or T40 bit for lag fasteners. Ive also had several of the magnets on the Masterforce come off and or break after some use where I havent had that happen with the Dewalt. The old Makita mag boost is the best bit magnet Ive found but you cant find them anymore. I'd say the new Makita mag boost is my 2nd favorite and is quite nice for setting screws as its design helps prevent overdrive. I'd take the Masterforce as a cheap 3rd alternative over the Dewalt because I dislike the way the Dewalt slides on the bit during use and I also like the Masterforce bits as a cheap alternative to Dewalt bits.
Weird. I just bought a bit set from Dewalt not too long ago and this magnetic part came with it. Perhaps they just aren't selling it separately. I've seen yellow and stainless and maybe black alternatives in many of their sets.
Dewalt has a new version of this made of metal that slides on and off of bits easier and magnetizes better than the old plastic one. You’ll find them in newer bit sets it’s silver metal and a bit wider. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you see it.
