One of my favorite Bonamassa quotes is when he pointed to the control knobs on a Les Paul and said, "These are on here for a reason." My other favorite is when he was holding a Fender Strat and said, "These don't have to be taken apart."
It’s only when I go to a jam that I realize how many people just set it and forget. No swapping pickup positions, no adjusting guitar volume and tone or picking position, no damping. Just blasting it. Many people think nuance is for the drummer only, yet with a room of guitarists no one will turn down, it becomes an arms race. Theres so much to unlock in your guitar by just turning down, never mind switching pedals! It really defines a good player if they can also adjust their level on the fly, like swapping between rhythm and lead while trading solos or playing with a singer. Basic stuff people!!!
Very good point. Someone commented recently that they set their amp up for the Neck position first so they can then have more power when hitting the bridge pickup. I thought that was really interesting.-Lee
@@gibson ya that makes sense, especially if you adjust the bridge pickup height so there’s a volume difference. Oftentimes swapping to the bridge mid solo really gets things cooking, especially if you have a few bars to build things up with!
@@gibson hahaha...I'm looking for one more Gibson...an ES-339 Figured, within the next 12 months. Any new colors on the way for those? I love the Cobalt Burst Gibson Les Paul Modern Figured AAA...but would rather have the AAA figured color on an ES-339. And I don't want to have to order a custom shop guitar to do it. I can buy more guitars when I buy production guitars....any chance you're going to try that color?
When it comes to vintage he likes them as factory as possible. Somewhere there is an interview where he talks about being offered greeny about a year before kirk bought it. And he basically says as vintage guitar greeny isn't worth more 100k because it is way too modified. The value is in it's history, but he doesn't collect band memorabilia.
People will say it is stupid for Joe to talk about this but then people will also go buy a Woman Tone pedal when Clapton himself very clearly explains the woman tone is just a manipulation of the tone knob and pickup selector switch
@ I bought a couple “improved upon” tube screamer circuits, hated them, had a dude at the Chicago music exchange say “just try a normal ts9” and I love it, it’s never leaving my board. So much of the pedal industry is “we fixed this or changed that” and it’s simply not a real problem
subtitles made my day: 4.36 "-to know when to use this as as something that creates a very vocal ASS type of sound...". he didnt sy that. algo did. cancel it for toxic speech.
It's unfortunate that this approach has to be explained. Everyone runs their volume and tone dimed and then they complain about their tone. I'm constantly on my tone knob when I get play, next the volume, and last the selector switch.
sorry people i live an hour where joe is from utica ny joe is a nice person for sure just not impressed with his playing or his ideas hes more in to guitar gear his family owned a music store, thats great just dont think he is that talented maybe at sellling guitars though, i do understand all about tone on stage too, these are ideas he picks up from other musicians about les paul
Just wow. Your insightful comments would read better with some attention to grammar and punctuation rules. Do you actually think he hasn't figured some of this out by playing a guitar? Maybe Joe just fell off a turnip truck, and everyone felt sorry for him so they gave him pointers and bought a CD of his?
wrong, a musician that put his feelings and works and his guitar parts instead of random noodeling like he always does. I never heard a good song nor catchy guitar part from him@@Ottophil
His songs are even worse, like IA creations of generic electric blues. I watch his videos just because of his vintage guitars, there is where all his taste is.@@azbluesdog
@@paternuin There’s a reason he’s so famous and highly regarded , and a reason why no one knows who you are or wants to interview you. Bet your mum thinks your great though 😂

Right on! This is a sign of a mature player.

A lot of players might as well just have an “on/off” switch rather than a volume knob. Never mind tone knobs!
Great idea!
The “widdly-widdlies” 😂😂😂 👏🏽 legend
I thought that was funny too! -Lee
One of the things I love about Les Pauls
So many tones in a Les Paul!
Can't do that on a Strat
Okay..I just tried using my knobs...I don't sound like Joe...did he leave info out? 😇
Instructions unclear. I am now locked in my car. haha - Lee ;) Hope you enjoyed the video Rick! Also - loving the sounds on your channel!

I can neither deny nor confirm!...
AWESOME ADVICE!!!!!
That was a lot of good information... Thank you 😎
Is this sound straight through the amp only?
Love a Gibbo plugged straight into an amp!!🇦🇺🇺🇸😎😎🎸🎸👌
Thank you.
Una excelente lección . Saludos.
Bello/Magnifico.😮😮😮😮😮😮👑
I'm curious if Joe swaps the pickups or keeps the originals ?
I'm pretty sure he keeps them, I"m sure he's got some guitars that have after market, he's like like 500 guitars or something crazy like that.
His guitar collection is impressive to say the least!

Wow, Greenie isn’t band memorabilia. Between Peter Green and Gary Moore , it’s guitar/music history!
@@Bourgeaultyou just said the same thing he said

Yeah, lots of pedals are a bit of a waste of money, but that one is a huge waste of money.

A lp jr. with a single P90, one volume and one tone knob forces you to learn this.
Bonamasa says he can feel the difference with his pick when the volume is rolled down a bit
30 seconds in Bonamassa time is 5 minutes
Listen kids
One louder.
Always go one louder. ;)
wow : D
Basic guitar dude stuff

It’s not amazing. It’s as elementary as it gets if you are a real guitar player. You act like you discovered sliced bread.

His playing is so unspiring. All muscle memory laziness, nothing exciting
I bet what you consider inspiring is some tiktok kid who slaps his guitar more than strumming it
