I like projects that keep items out of the landfill...nothing wrong with a ginger jar shape. Just have to find the right color combo to work in a personal space. Maybe add a stamped design to the shade might also give it a bit more interest.
Please list the type of paint, etc you used. I know you said it, but it's so much easier to go to the list after you've watched the video. Wonderful video though. Thank you
I would love to know how you paint lamps that have decols that the light shines through. I paint the lamps and they look beautiful but as soon as i turn them on you can still see the decal. I prime with Gesso and you can still see the flowers.
I'm interested in doing a pot with the same paint can you please tell me where to buy that blue Brand name spray paint that you used for the lamp the only thing is I would like it in a white color please share where you purchased the paint
$4:44 I would have used another shade, probably bell or drum shaped and probably still white, and painted the base in either pearl white or tiger stripes dark orange yellow brown and black.
All my friends parents lol. My mother was up on things though and knew how to do it on a dime. We had really pretty glass touch lamps. I miss her desperately. :(
Did he check to see if the old lamp from his garage was actually working before re-painting? Also, cheaper to buy a new lamp shade, perhaps a light shade of grey to compliment the original lamp colour or even white. Expensive re-vamp of a lamp!!
$35 was costly for a DIY project. You could of used acrylic paint with baking soda mixed in it. Then use a matte clear spray paint to finish. It’d look like a stone texture & not still a tacky lamp.
Spraying out in the open like that is not recommended. Some form of backing like a large box or canvas to keep the spray from going everywhere. Use a mask! Also, stippling will create lots of hard to rid of dust which means that cleaning over time will most likely remove the paint from some areas.
I could easily walk into winners and buy a new lamp for 20$. Small DIY projects like this shouldn’t cost more than $10. I would maybe spend $35 making over a dresser or a table, but not a lamp!
skinnygirl82: AGREED! The ONLY way such a high cost reasonable is that you get a particular result that is specific for just the DIYer (exact color or shape).
You Just said walk in buy a lamp for $20 but project shouldn't cost you more than $10 what kind of flawed ass math is that. Always some people wanting to complain about something.
O don't know, what the people here are talking about. The second version of the lamp was way better. fresh colors, i like it. And it isn't true, that you can find this for 6 dollarsn because the lamp is very big and the jar very heavy. Anyway, trnsform old things isn't just to save money or to create the last trendy thing. It's an hobby and it'is to change the colors of your home without to throw things away. And in thus video it's an educational purpose : they want to show how to paint a lamp, so they take an old lamp and paint it. What is the problem ?
$35.00! That's a lot of money. That's some expensive spray paint. I could buy a lamp on "Offer Up" cheaper than that and I probably wouldn't have to do a thing to it.
$35?? I've done the same thing with cheaper materials and look a lot better. Sorry but not sorry. This is not a DIY I would share. DIY projects should be to make you sabe money. 😱
Spray paint $35.00? Walmart $6 or $7 or even less buy one get one free sale. The white lamp shade tacky should have used floral or geometric design wallpaper instead.
Not for a shade that size. I just replaced one on and antquit lamp i loved.almost 20 dollars.and the ones at the thruft shops are not going to be anymire uodated then ones you replace
35 freaking dollars...... WTF.... Yes I can buy a new lamp for that or not much more. I bought a a lamp with a shade for 3$ I guess your lamps a for rich girls who aren't worried about $...Im going to find a sight that can help me with my 3$ lamp for cheap cheap cheap...
You could do it for cheaper.it is probably cheap to some.but the idea was good and it is cheaper to redo than to throw away a n d buy more. J u st a cheap lampshade at walmart is 20 dollare.
353 likes out of 41,955 views! Do you have any idea how bad that is? The old HGTV format ain't doin' it no more. In the five minutes you took to give the viewers this lamp thing you could have given a dozen hacks without breaking a sweat. Re-think your approach.
Some pretty unpleasant comments here. Remember it’s all subjective. It may not be to your taste but unless your comments are constructive, don’t bother. Cheap shots are for losers.
Yes... you can but there are beautiful lamps for $35 at Target and Home Goods. Sorry... but I'm not impressed with that lamp after all that work. It's REALLY plain and just blah! I can do the same thing and it looks a lot better plus it's cheaper with, metallic spray paint, glass paint, chalk paint and acrylic paint!
I like those old style lamps
4:29 it doesn't even look like the same tacky lamp that we started with
You are correct....it looks like a completely different tacky lamp
Beautiful! Love those colors! Thanks for a quick and easy tutorial.
oooh wow!!! Nice job!!! Im going thrifting now!

They need to show it turned on !
Wow! Shake can for two to three mins! That seems so long. I had no idea!
I love the name. Belize.it's my country's name where I came from. Nice
I'm interested in doing a pot with the same paint can you please tell me where to buy that blue
Brand name spray paint that you used for the lamp the only thing is I would like it in a white color please share where you purchased the paint
Should u spray it in doors as i sprayed a vase in doors and it went all over my floor even do i laid plastic it went on it
My lamps have pleasted shades, so you cannot spray paint them, right?
I like the old flower
A more modern lamp shade would have really updated the lamp.
She was using this to show two techniques - nothing better to do than to nickpick people trying to help you?
Right
Everyone's hating but I like it
$4:44 I would have used another shade, probably bell or drum shaped and probably still white, and painted the base in either pearl white or tiger stripes dark orange yellow brown and black.
what is the name of the spray?
Who's mom had a set of lamps similar to the original before they painted I'm thinking mid to late 80s when the color mauve was the rage.
Deven traducir para entender mejor estos trabajos muy lindos
All my friends parents lol. My mother was up on things though and knew how to do it on a dime. We had really pretty glass touch lamps. I miss her desperately. :(
I AGREE ABOUT THE PRIECE TO REVAMP. I HAVE A GINGER JAR LAMP AND SHADE TO REVAMP RATHER THAN REPLACE!!
Loved it!
Did he check to see if the old lamp from his garage was actually working before re-painting? Also, cheaper to buy a new lamp shade, perhaps a light shade of grey to compliment the original lamp colour or even white. Expensive re-vamp of a lamp!!
Tf..lamp shades are more expensive than lamps themselves fool
I would have used acrylic paint or Dixie Belle chalk paint or even acrylic pour 🌸
Love 💕
35.00? Still
Looks old! Sorry! I would have used the mirror finish spray! Now that would be more modern!
You should have updated the coolie-hat shade. The old shade dates the ginger jar lamp.
I'm sorry, $35?
$35 was costly for a DIY project. You could of used acrylic paint with baking soda mixed in it. Then use a matte clear spray paint to finish. It’d look like a stone texture & not still a tacky lamp.
I have this exact lamp I'm trying to revamp, but I need a way without spray paint...any help..from anyone?
Baking soda mixed into acrylic paint & painted on with a brush. It’ll give it a stone texture.
Spraying out in the open like that is not recommended. Some form of backing like a large box or canvas to keep the spray from going everywhere.
Use a mask!
Also, stippling will create lots of hard to rid of dust which means that cleaning over time will most likely remove the paint from some areas.
How did I get here and why did I watch the entire thing.
Desnecessário,as peças antes eram muito bonitas

I agree
You Just said walk in buy a lamp for $20 but project shouldn't cost you more than $10 what kind of flawed ass math is that. Always some people wanting to complain about something.
@@jjsrt8 She said she could buy a new lamp, in other words to her liking, not for make over.
but keeping items out of the landfill is good. plus, there is lots of paint left for future projects so the actual cost is way way less.
Modern lampshade nine one eighth...
He's not even listening, he's just putting on his mask.

Why bother making a video if you don't even take the time to complete it and show the viewers a list of the items used in the video?!?!?
$35?? how the lamp was an old free one and the cleaning products and paint could not be that much
Mary Spain The brand of everything could be that high
Just clean with white vinegar. This is crazy.
Simple green is $1.97 at Walmart. That’s Ace hardware. Her name brand spray paint. $15.00 a can?
$35.00! That's a lot of money. That's some expensive spray paint. I could buy a lamp on "Offer Up" cheaper than that and I probably wouldn't have to do a thing to it.

This taken to long to explain.
Wow! Now it’s a GREEN outdated, tacky lamp. Amazing!
$35?? I've done the same thing with cheaper materials and look a lot better. Sorry but not sorry. This is not a DIY I would share. DIY projects should be to make you sabe money. 😱
I agree 35.00 is way to much for a DIY when you can go to Walmart or Dollar general or thift stores or pick it up from the side of the road.
Then you make a tutorial and quit complaining
Agreed. I purchased 2 new lamps for $30 and the lamp ahde is waaaay cuter, lol.
Dah
Still looks dated.. just different color!!

How tf is it tacky, looks much better than the rust color it was before FOO
Looks exactly the same only different color. Still dated.
Uoo Hoo yep that's what I say! And $35? I could get a prettier lamp at Homegoods!!!! 😂😆
I agree
mmm... are YOU blind? Homegoods can sell you a lamp EXACTLY LIKE the end result only you would pay $10 to $15!
@@trishfitzpatrick2066 🤦♀️
Wow you started with a beautiful vintage looking lamp and after 2 hours and $35 dollars later, you made it look tacky and awful. Well done you !
$35 to paint a lamp? You can buy a NEW lamp for that price, in the color and style you want.
Cute but too much talking
Funny how he’s wearing a mask and she isn’t. #spraypainting

Maybe because it's better to choose common sense....but you could be just "rambling" nonsense
LMAO! $35 to make a cute, vintage look, into something ugly. No...just no!
You might as well have just gone to Walmart to buy a completely new lamp.
That's a tacky color combination, sorry!👎
