This is the only EDM style original that they've done. I highly recommend their Popspring 2016 mini concert. It's 15 minutes long, and it was recorded professionally by MTV so the audio is fab. Three original songs plus their Evolution of Michael Jackson. You'll get a good selection of their original work plus as it's live you can hear how great they sound when not in a studio. They generally do more in the pop genre in their originals. 'Coffee in Bed', 'Sing', 'Be my Eyes', and 'Happy Now' are some of my favourite originals from them, all have music videos. My favourite song by them (or indeed any artist) is 'Anchor'. No video for that one, but there's some lyric videos floating around if you prefer to look at something when listening. 😁

I agree on all points! I like their Love Again, they do have more originals. More like their 'style', but the diversity and flow is the amazing factor, no matter what they sing. I love Anchor and Popspring!
Definitely watch Popspring 2016. It gives you a great variety with standouts from Mitch, Scott, and Kristi as soloists and amazing bass and beats from Avi and Kevin.
I don't know if you've done their live cover of "ride" 21 pilots yet. I thought I saw it was posted at one point but maybe not. If not still highly recommend.
A few of my favorite Pentatonix originals: Can't Sleep Love, Sing, Cracked, Water, Coffee In Bed, Be My Eyes, Love Me When I Don't, and their newest, Prayers For This World. Of course there's probably more, but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Enjoy!
Love Again was recorded shortly after Daft Punk Medley very early in their career. Please check out these songs as well as Happy Now, A Little Space ft Ateez and Midnight in Tokyo ft Little Glee Monster.
Prayers for this world is not an original...recorded by Cher for a documentary. Written by Diane Warren, I believe.
Yes to Cracked, Can't Sleep Love, and Water, which are all performed live on the Popspring 2016 video along with their Evolution of Michael Jackson. For even newer originals there's nothing more polished than Coffee In Bed or The Lucky Ones. Prayers For This World is a Diane Warren song. I thought it was original, too, but someone was kind enough to tell me in comments. You should hear it, though, it's incredible.
There's actually a mic-less performance of this one - okay, Kevin has a mic - that is my very favorite of the off-mic performances available.
Definitely a variety for their originals... core of pop, but with definite R&B and dance influences... but there are also very folksy songs, ballads and one of the new ones even sounded country to me. Definitely a whole spectrum.

Pop Spring 2016 is so good. Their covers are great. But their originals are even better. Love Again is wonderful, but not representative of all their original music. Pop Spring 2016 is a great introduction to 3 more of their originals that are different from Love Again. Their live performance of Water at Pop Spring is one of my favorites. Cracked is great at this concert and rarely gets reacted to because there is no music video. Can't Sleep Love is so good, the live performance of it at Pop Spring is the best, but the official mv is great too. Some of their best originals are audio only,(Anchor, Ref, Petals to name just a few) and sadly get passed on by many reactors.
Sing, Coffee in Bed, and Love Me When I Don't are a few of my favorites of their originals that have music videos.

For PTX originals I recommend Sing. You can't help but smile when you hear it. Honestly for as good as their covers are I feel their originals don't get nearly enough love. They have incredible original music
This was their first original and done about the same time as Daft Punk. It didn't catch on as well as DP, though. I understand that Kevin decided not to do those throat beats anymore...they hurt!

It's not their first original... they had two originals on the first EP. One of those was called Show You How To Love and I consider it the precursor to this one.

Yep, this is their homage to EDM. Mitch and Scott were obsessed with EDM at the time and wanted to do their own song in the genre. This was recored forever ago, but it's still awesome. Very unique. They have not done an EDM song since.
Some of my favorites of their originals are the 2016 Popspring that others have mentioned, Run to You, Standing By, Light on the Hallway. My preferences fall to anything they did with Avi.
Highly Recommend “Run to You” original bc they all 5 sing and the harmonies are 🔥.

Please watch PopSpring 2016. Yes I am biased because it’s my favorite video of theirs, BUT it’s also a live video with 3 amazing originals, Can’t Sleep Love os my favorite and the sound quality is amazing as it’s also live.

This is an early original. I think their original work has become more polished over the years. Don't give up on PTX originals just yet!
I think when you are doing a cover, you already have a baseline in how it was done, and you can build on that and suggest changes to make it better. I do like their original music though, so I hope you listen to more.
Aaaaaaaaaah!!! My absolute favorite! It is criminally underappreciated. Should have like 10x the views it actually has. Better than Daft Punk, IMO.
Their originals are all very varied, tbh. To do a complete 180 on the genre/style check out Run To You. To hear 3 different originals (Cracked, Can't Sleep Love, and Water) & a live version of Evolution of Michael Jackson, check out their PopSpring 2016 concert. I think it's about 15 minutes long but we'll worth it. It's a professionally filmed concert too, so no fancam issues.
I personally love this song because that bass goes hard (it's Kevin doing almost a pseudo bass when it's that real heavy beat - he doesn't do it often because I've heard it hurts him), Mitch's vocals are so stunning, and the hook is super catchy. There is a live version they did backstage in a dressing room during an interview with, it think it was a local TV station or something, where the singers are on one mic and Kev has his own. It's worth checking out even if you don't react to it. Keep in mind too that they recorded Love Again quite early on too, in 2013.
don not know if you have done it already but pentatonix amazing grace is unreal and a definate must, I am not a religious person but this song will move you

So glad to see you finally watched this. I saw this when I was first checking out PTX. I loved it, I agree it is much different than their other works. They have a lot of good originals to check out. Too many to list.

I love this song but the live version they do is so much more impressive. The one I saw they were not even on stage. Only 1 mic and it was so good! One of the few groups that sound just as good live as they do in their videos.
They have a lot of originals none are like this one. Many are really good too.

Scott (the blonde) can hit it too.. but not like Avi can. Watch Hallelujah.. when Avi takes the lead, Scott fills in. Some parts are also Kevin doing it. All three (FIVE!) have AMAZING voices
You just got 'Avi-lanched' LOL! Avi was the *really* low voice and the piercing stare. He has opera training and is a Basso Profundo with a -really- low register and a pretty good high baritone head voice - if you want more Avi, after he left the group in 2017 he started up his own solo career and one of my favorites of his is 'Change Is On The Rise', an original. Also - check out if you haven't yet, another of their Originals 'Be My Eyes', 'Dreams', 'Happy Now', 'Love Me When I Don't', and 'The Lucky Ones'!

Two years ago they released their second album of originals called The Lucky Ones Deluxe. You should react to their video, Happy Now and the track, Anchor.
That style in my opinion is the actual original style of Pentatonix. When they won The Sing Off, they were labeled an acapella group from the future. Like this song, Daft Punk and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy won them Grammy awards. The futuristic EDM sound is my favorite in their broad spectrum of sounds. There's also a cover of Cologne that gives the EDM vibe that I love. Anyway, just my take. Pentatonix can do no wrong. They smash everything!
Great Reaction. There are a few live versions of this song with only a mic on Kevin it sounds very similar. A couple of their earlier original songs that I like are A Light in the Hallway and Run to You.
I think I know what you mean when you say you prefer their covers. It's because you know what the original song sounds like, and then they add their Pentatonix style to it and upgrade the heck out of it. In other words, you have a baseline to work with.
With this song, since it's not a cover, you aren't going through the process of appreciating how much of an upgrade they've done to the original.
Case in point: Your reaction to "O, Come All Ye Faithful". You were grinning like a Cheshire Cat the entire time!
So yes, listening to a song like this is a different flavor, but it's still YUMMY.
"Come Along" is another cover, but the original is an Indie song on TH-cam and not as well-known as the average pop song, but the HARMONIES..... you're gonna love it. Also... beware of Mitch. He's gonna slap you again. This warning won't help, though... he'll do it anyway.
This is a really early original..wait till you hear some of their more recent stuff. Coffee in Bed, Water, cracked……. There are better originals. They get better and better. You’ve really been listening to their really early stuff. They’ve GROWN so much. And….you’ve gotta see their live performances. Go find them live at the Hollywood Bowl. They were on fire! It was recorded earlier this year. (2022)

PTX will not record anything in the studio they cannot perform live. More original songs can be found mainly on the album "The Lucky Ones."
I think I know where you're going with There evolution sounding so much more polished and this original is very new in their catalog. If you check out off of their Latest non Christmas album the lucky ones it's all originals. There originals are so much more Polished Because because it is About 8 years further along in their career then when love again was done. Also check out Scott's Single mars. It is everything a song can and should be along with everything a video can and should be.The title track off Of their Christmas album this year prayers for the world has the official music video out now. Please react to that. I saw them September 29 at the Hollywood bowl. I never doubted that they sounded the same Live as they do studio but to actually experience it in person was So moving... I'm loving your PTX journey.
This is off of their first album of originals. Their second album of originals is more polished. If you didn't know that they are an acapella group, you would think they were just pop songs. The entire album is awesome.
Sean, great reaction. They have a lot more original content. Other people have suggested some great sources for this material. I agree that the Popspring 2016 tour is a really good place to start. Their album "The Lucky Ones" is all original music.
I enjoy equally their covers and originals. I do love this song - it's very early in their career so for them to try this style of music was IMO, very brave! It's one of my favourites. They have, just like in their covers, a variety of styles and tempos. Some very 'pop-py' some ballads, inspirational songs (Run To You), most have some very deep (again IMO) lyrics. You can really see their development as they progress through their albums, and more recently they have been experimenting musically with more production. I like how they continue to push the boundaries of what they do.
This is not one of their best originals. There are some that are fantastic -- Sing, Coffee in Bed, Be My Eyes, The Lucky Ones, and many more.
They have a cover of Cologne by Clean Bandit that is awesome. It’s audio only but worth a listen.

There is a bit of edm influence in some of their songs, but as others said this is the only one that's strictly this style.

On their 2015 and 2021 originals albums various group members co-wrote the songs but brought in experienced pop co-songwriters, producers and sound editors and the sound varied according to the writers and producers. This was earlier, one of three original songs on their 2012 EP, "PTX Vol II" but they did have additional production on this and their "Natural Disaster" original by Jamie Rise, and they both have an more EDM sound.
