I'd say that would go to Pete Sandoval but Morbid Angel is far from thrash. So that'd have to go to Dave Lombardo. But they were also far from traditional thrash. Even though they get lumped as being part of the Big 4. So I guess you could argue that Charlie is indeed the king as far as thrash is concerned.
I loved Anthrax out of that whole 80's thrash scene. Just their east coast New York attitude was refreshing next to all the west coast stuff. Gung-ho!!!
I don't know, maybe it's just my impression but I feel Anthrax have never taken themselves too seriously.Which doesn't mean they joke about everything. Especially not about racial and xenophobic stuff which are the main theme of the Persistence of Time album.
@@robi-wo9mc Very true. They can be as serious as Metallica etc. in their music, but they also have a fun side that most other metal bands do not. They are also one of the only bands who addresses the racial and xenophobic stuff. Indians is another good example.
@@Pharmacymusic1 Yep, I've also given Indians as an example of the song that addresses such themes in some other thread. Maybe the reason Anthrax are sensitive about these issues is that two most exposed members of the band are not pure WASPs (Joey's mother is a Native American while Ian is a Jew) and as such have experienced some negative attitude because of their origin. Just speculating. But one thing we know for sure: Ian IS very sensitive about it which tells us the following anecdote. In January 2016 there's been a concert in hommage to deceased Pantera's Dimebag where Anselmo gave a nazi salute and yelled some nonsence about white power. Many known musicians were there at that gig and they took it very harshly. Ian Scott was also there and told subsequently that he had "zero tolerance for any of this [hate speech, racism, inflammatory rhetoric] and to not speak out against it is as dangerous as the act themselves....".
Spreading the Disease is the second studio album by the American thrash metal band Anthrax, released on this day 10/30/85 by Megaforce Records and Island Records. It was the band's first album to feature vocalist Joey Belladonna and bassist Frank Bello. A special two-disc edition of the album was released in 2015, celebrating its 30th anniversary.
i was 16 in the 80s and i can remember some of it...well ok i can almost remember it, saw anthrax in 87 hammersmith both nights, still the best gig i ever been to 23 years later
Back in the day when the talent appreciated the fans, and the fans appreciated the talent... and being metal fucking meant something. Now it seems to be a blurry line with no direction... soccer moms and metallica... super.
that was the beautiful thing about the 80's. If you had a really good thrashin band, you could have 20+ people on stage with you. too bad i wasnt alive in the 80's
Listen to "Speak English Or Die".In several places on several songs,Charlie was actually doing BLAST BEATS! This was in 1986!!! This man has had the "Drum SKILLS to give us the Thrash THRILLS" for almost 30 years now!!
Stage Sumum Party!!!I used to be things like these !!! The spanish David personal translation is...Juanjoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo !!! Salud y Vida Pa'lante !!! Cheers and Life On !!!
@RockingMarshall Jean-Joseph Mouret's 'Rondeau" from "Symphonies and Fanfares for the King's Supper" also known as the theme from the PBS TV series Masterpiece Theatre. Hardcore punk band Adrenalin O.D. covered this theme also back in the 80's.
Thank you vevo for sorting youtube out and making it so much easier to find the songs i want to listen to, plus theyre music videos. Oh and they aren't shitty quality and a 12 year old didn't make the video. Thanks for making it so i don't have to pay for youtube too :D

There's something so heartwarming about seeing bands interact so much with their fans.
This is a real meet and great!
Charlie Benante- The KING of ALL double-bass thrash metal drummers!!!
No Dave owns that shit
Peter Gosinya Dave is a god

Dave Lombardo, Charlie Benante and Gene Hoglan are the best drummers in Thrash Metal.
