You have to remember the movie is late 1970s. So 37 grand would equal to about 196,000 now. Also medicine comes a long way. Laser eye surgery in the future movies. Paulie says in the 3rd he got surgeries. With rocky not blocking much it kinda shows his heart. No matter how much of a beating he takes he will never quit. Others might be better or smarter boxers but they don’t have his heart/will/determination. And of course they don’t have his biggest motivation in every film Adrian. He is jabbing with his left arm because lefties jab with their right and use left handed straight punches. Right handed fighters jab with left and throw straight rights.

U really should watch any documentary on how this got made!! Broke, almost homeless, sold his dog...for real!😮...wrote the script in 3 weeks. Was asked big money(back then) to sell it, but not star in it. He always said no. Finally sold it for 30k to ABC TV. He was good friends with and done a movie a few years prior, with Henry Winkler. He became THE STAR of😊 abc tv in the show Happy Days, as the Fonz. He heard Stallone sold the script to ABC. Henry goes to the ABC heads and says, u don't GIVE me that script, I leave the show....they gave it to him! Stallone never made a ton of money on the rockymovies. Only as a writer actor choreographer. He got ripped off by the first producer, who bought the rights and rocky name, and never sold it back to Stallone, though he's made billions! Based on a real tune up fight, for Ali. He was going to fight Frazier later in the year, for the title, but he wanted a tune-up fight. He fought against Chuck Wepner, a journeyman tomato can bleeder, who was good, but never top 10 ranked. And he damn near knocked Ali out!😮 The guy singing outside, is his real brother Frank!😮 The first guy he fights in this movie, Spider, shows up in Rocky Balboa or Creed! The teenage girl he talks to, also comes back in one of those movies! Adrian is the sister in godfather!😮😮 Stallone almost died in 4, because Drago, actually cracked his ribs, puntured a lung, punctured his heart sac! Drago in real life, has multiple masters PhD in engineering! The blonde wife of Drago, shows up in Creed 2 and so does Drago, and Stallone actually married that woman, and had beautiful daughters with her! Tommy Morrison in part 5 was a real boxer and could have been the greatest ever, but drugs and booze got him. In 3 Clubber got the role, by winning a Tough man contest! In 3 hulk Hogan, hit Stallone for real in the back of his shoulders with his forearm, and moved vertebrae. Dennis Quaid did a amateur tough guy boxing movie, kind of based on the Clubber Lang actor, that was very good, called Tough Enough! and busted his lip open! There was never going to be a 2, but this movie made so much money, win Oscars, etc., Stallone wrote a sequel! When he was accepting an Oscar for this movie on stage, Ali comes up, grabs him, fakes punches at him and says, "u stole this movie idea from me!" Paulie has done a couple other great movies, Rob the Mob, and Pope of Greenich Village! Adrian is part of the Coppola family.... Francis Ford, Nick Cage, Sophia Coppola... maybe her daughter! What 1 and 2 are really, the ultimate love story! U can go see the Rocky statue in Philly! The mistake of colors he's wearing, in the auditorium, was due to a mistake and money problems, so they kept it in, and had the dialogue reflect this! Watch all but u can skip 5, finish the Rocky series, then go to Creed! The Great fight ever... middleweight Ray...boom boom Mancini vs Duk ku Kim,... outdoors, Caesars palace. Outdoors. Went the distance. Slug fest. Kim died in the ring. He fought the last round with a busted blood vessel in his brain. Fights went to twelve after that.

I think it'd be a mistake to stop at IV and launch into Creed. The movies are like chapters. I know most fans bag on V and think of it as the weakest entry; but I think the flaw is mostly in its execution than in its plot. The Rocky movies are about relationships and characters. V is a father-son story and furthers the evolution of these characters. And Rocky Balboa (VI) goes back to its roots of character-driven storytelling and is a nice conclusion for the Rocky story, leading to the passing of the torch to the current Creed run.

58:55 "They fought on Independence Day."
No, you guys got the timing wrong. Rocky and Apollo's first fight took place on New Years Day, the first movie takes place from November 25 1975 (two days before Thanksgiving) to January 1 1976. 1976 was the bicentennial year in America. Bicentennial celebrations took place basically year round in 1976, from the research I've done (don't know from experience cuz I wasn't born until the late 80s). In the original script of "Rocky", when Apollo Creed's managers couldn't find a replacement fighter for Creed, they suggested that he postpone the fight to July 4th (Independence Day) to which Creed said no cuz EVERYONE will be doing something big on Independence Day 1976. Creed wanted the first fight to take place on Jan 1 1976 cuz then his fight would be the FIRST big event of the bicentennial year. So, "Rocky II" does take place 10 months later around Thanksgiving (November 1976).

15:30 - It was a lightweight title fight in 1982; Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini vs Duk Koo Kim. Kim was an underdog like Rocky and fought his heart out, but began to lose out in the later rounds. Still, he bravely fought on in spite of that, refusing to go down. After finally being knocked out in the 14th round, he collapsed into a coma, passing away 5 days later. The World Boxing Council would shorten its championship fights to 12 rounds that very year, with other sanctioning bodies not doing the same until 1987.

The reason he was training with his left arm . Was bcuz when you are a southpaw the left is your power shot. So you tend to keep your left hand cocked back and jab and block with the right and wait for the opening to throw the power left. So to switch it. You gotta learn to jab and block with the left and keep the right cocked back for the power shot. So he tied his right hand down so he would learn to jab with his left and keep his left in the lead. And the right in reserve. When your southpaw you keep your right in the lead. And the left in reserve.

Absolutely adore this movie, I get a lump in the throat when Adrian woke up & told Rocky ''Win''!
I can't watch the training montage without thinking of the edit of Rocky punching the kids at the top of the stairs - & I was this time.... & then you guys edit it in!!: think I startled my neighbours with how hard I laughed!!
One request: I know what people say about '5', but PLEASE do the whole series before going into Creed - you won't regret it!

When Mickey got on rocky about his vision earlier on, he was talking about his peripheral vision was extremely limited. He can’t see a punch coming from the left side I think which can lead to permanent damage and possible blindness. And fyi rocky didn’t switch it up to south paw later. Throwing a left isn’t southpaw. South paw is his stance and lead right hand.

why go only up to 4 before creed? it‘s essential to see all 6 and rocky 6 is one of the best in the series.

You jab with your weaker hand so mick was getting rocky to jab with his stronger hand

IMO Rocky had to win that way, because that's what (at least the early) movies are about. A regular guy who life keeps knocking down, and he wins by just never giving up. He keeps getting back up -- that's who he is.

I had that car. Mine was blue. My dad gave it to me
For graduation. I quickly proceeded to destroy it. I loved that car. Finally totaled it in 1982.

$37,000 may not sound like a lot of money today. But $37,000 in 1979 is the equivalent of about $153,828 today.

59:01 Again, people who don't understand that the 200th anniversary of the American nation didn't take place on July 4, 1976, but rather on January 1, or rather, it took place throughout the whole year.
Just research "The United States Bicentennial "...
And " Bicentennial" was even written big and bold on the poster for the first fight in Rocky I
    People today have no education....

Everytime you talk about hate in the comments, I roll my eyes and think "Why do people leave nasty comments?" You're a nice couple watching movies. How is that stirring up rage? I'll never understand it.

Great reaction to a classic sequel, fun fact Apollo was created in the likeness of Muhammad Ali and Rocky was inspired by a Boxer by the of Chuck Wepner.

About the lefty vs righty boxing stance you were confused with, they showed that correctly. When you're a south-paw as Rocky, your strongest is your left-hand. Boxing stance puts your strongest hand on your back foot-- so your right is forward as a south-paw-- consequently, your right hand should be jabbing, while putting your strongest hand in reserve. If your going to fight right-handed, your left should be forward and jabbing hand is the left. Rocky was practicing his left jab which is correct if your fighting as right-handed.

Rocky has bad defense but he is very tough and can take a lot of damage. Apollo is clearly the better fighter but his ego lost him a fight he could have easily won. Rocky gets better at fighting in the next movie so can’t wait for y’all to react to that!

I like how they didn't make Tony an asshole who uses rocky as a muscle and treats him badly like rocky owes him or something, that would have been soo generic and I like how he supports rocky, he gave him $50 for his date with Adrian ,he comes out to help, he is an mobster not an asshole

This is the second time you mentioned Pacquiao. So I subbed!😂. The first fight was held on New Years eve. Apollo is just so patriotic that's why he often wears American themed costumes. You will see the connection on part 4. Love your reaction and commentaries. Please do continue with this series. Rocky franchise has the greatest trilogy in cinematic history. 4 is still epical 5 is underated but essential and 6 the perfect ending. Then there is CREED.

There has been many deaths in boxing but an American popular favorite Ray Boom Boom Mancini fought a tough Korean and they beat the hell out of echer other but the Korean died in the 14th round on national television from way to many punches. He had intense swelling on the brain from the accumulation of punches. This was in 1982 and within 5 years after that boxing then changed a championship fight from 15 to 12 rounds.
