Dylan- it has been so fun to have watched you grow into your role as a great interviewer over the past few years. This was another great one! I’m grateful for your contributions to trail and ultra running.
I think Molly hit the nail on the head with Nienke Brinkman and Ethiopians on the Golden Trail series, road runners are hitting the scene in a big way. Excited to see her in the scene. She has the perfect vibe for the trail scene!
This is a really great podcast. I have always wondered how these track/marathon runners keep from getting inquired. What she said about being beat up after all those years with that one coach resonated. Up here in Canada I run on the Treadmill in the winter and then the road/paths in the spring and by the time I can get on the trails (when the mud is gone) my body is falling apart. Those trails just give life back to my body so I love where her mind is at with this. I mean....we all know what's going to happen here....she is going to drink the cool-aid and be all in on trails by the end of the summer. Once you go single track, you never go back:)
Great interview thanks. Dylan I would greatly appreciate interviews that mention US high school/college/uni terminology like ‘senior year’ etc to translate that into age, because it’s a very different system to other countries 😊
Had a coach that said all trail runners need to run a fast marathon and all fast marathoners need to run some trails is it besides the different strength that builds in your body he said both of them are so different that it keeps you alive and keeps you. You know 00 awakeafter my second marathon, I ran my first 50 K and I thought it was little easier. Of course I wasn’t looking to like win it or anything and then I’ve just stuck with trails over the years but every once in a while being 62 now I say, maybe I can qualify for Boston even though I have no speed like that probably anymore but it is true. I think we all need a little bit of all things and you know marathon runners need to go out and run a 5K once a while
