- Ba Dinh is one of the four original districts of Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. Ba Dinh is home to numerous monuments, landmarks and relics, including the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the One Pillar Pagoda, the Hanoi Flag Tower and the imperial citadel of Thang Long, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ba Dinh is also the political center of Vietnam. Most government offices and embassies are located here, including the most important sites of the Vietnamese state such as Ba Dinh Square, the Presidential Palace, the National Assembly building, the Government Office and the headquarters of the Communist Party of Vietnam. It used to be called the "French Quarter" because it had a high concentration of French-style villas and government buildings when Hanoi was the capital of French Indochina.
