Hi Alan - OK, to start with I am a massive Floyd fan, have ALL their stuff and most of David's solo albums. I've streamed this album a couple of times, and am yet to really make my mind up. Don't all these artists say when they release a new album - "Its the best I've ever done" !! lolol. Its certainly got that Gilmour / Floyd guitar all over it that's for sure. Am not asking for 60 or 70 minutes, but really - two of the tracks, are very short, fair enough - not a problem as such, and the title track is mostly from 2007 !! The bonus track - well the jam's got a nice feel to it, but it really doesnt take off - it just drifts along and could quite easily be a taped loop. The the title track was built from the jam, but is totally different in that its a song. It's actually fascinating to hear both - the song is new, the jam is old but far from the same thing Doug. Thanks - well I don't think its in the league of Dark Side Of The Moon. I really like / in some cases love all his solo albums. I think this may be my favorite of his solo albums - and that's quite an accomplishment.
Interesting point that came to me after you mentioned him, is Steve Gadd the greatest American Rock/Pop drummer of them all ?? (Not including the great Jazz or Big Band drummers of the past)
Greatest is always tough to choose - so many amazing players, but to me can't imagine many better and he was so well respected from everyone. Amazing drummer.
@@jasonpp1973 Lol - funny never thought of that. Yea Gadd was amazing back then - probably still is. He used to play Late In The Evening with four sticks - two in each hand.
Like all of his prior albums, On an Island is my fave of the lot. Does the new album have Robert Wyatt on cornet this time? I like his solo stuff. Not a fan of Roger Waters weird concept solo stuff, with the exception of Amused to Death. I like what Nick Mason is doing with his Saucerful of Secrets band covering pre Moon PF, I have the cd/dvd set. His solo album from the 80s is pretty cool too. Never heard the solo album by Rick Wright.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Much bigger Robert Wyatt fan here than a Gilmour fan, I must say. Wyatt's version of Elvis Costello's Shipbuilding, for example, is quite brilliant. Me again Alan - LOLOL. Just thinking !! Gilmour's got that gorgeous house boat recording studio on the Thames, plus access to any studio in the world. He's got guitars galore and everything else you could possibly want - and he can only put together 30+ minutes of (not even new) music after 9 years ????????????????? Sorry - thats not good enough for someone of his standing in the music business. What does he do with himself? Me thinks he's got lazy - 9 F...IN years for barely 30 minutes of music lolol. I'll always love the guy, but ....Sorry to go on. A but a bit like Neil Young, poor music these days and I dont buy his stuff anymore. Again - love the guy, but .... Cya Doug
...Neil Young is the opposite Doug - he releases everything. Virtually impossible to keep up. Seems like every month or so another Neil Young release. And I agree - quality control out the window. I guess Neil feels get it out while I'm alive. I don't think Gilmour actually had plans to release a new album. Just sllllooowwwly over time had some stuff and then he and Polly said we got something here. I actually think it's a tremendous album. Yes it's relatively short - a little over 45 minutes, but I don't mind. For me perfect length of an album (from the vinyl days). Perhaps could've been cheaper because of the length, but yea...I'm loving it. Doug.
I'm not understanding all the great reviews for this album. It's 43 min of elevator music. Boring and nothing special. People overly praise all legacy artists. He could have spent 43 min farting and everyone on the internet would give it five stars!!!
Wow - gotta say I'm loving it, in fact it's even growing on me more. We all have our own ears and like what we like. Perhaps you don't like David Gilmour singing, signature guitar playing and overall sound? But for someone who likes David Gilmour and later day Floyd like Momentary Lapse Of Reason and The Division Bell, I think this is a fantastic album...lush, melodic, wonderful guitar playing including acoustics and electrics and wonderful dynamics throughout.

Some Gadd tasty licks are on the songs Aja, and 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover (funny because the song only mentions 5 ways).
@@jasonpp1973 Lol - funny never thought of that. Yea Gadd was amazing back then - probably still is. He used to play Late In The Evening with four sticks - two in each hand.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Bonham did the same, on Four Sticks of course, lol.
@@jasonpp1973 yea. That is true.
Not that familiar with Gilmour's solo career. I will give it a listen.
Hope you like it. If you're a Gilmour fan, I think you'll love it.
I had two Wright's solo albums - Broken China and Wet Dream - thought they were just ok. No didn't see Robert Wyatt listed anywhere. Thanks.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Robert Wyatt was a drummer, before he got paralyzed over 50 years ago from a wall through a window.
A great drummer at that!
@@jasonpp1973 Yea - was a sad story for sure but released some good solo material afterwards.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Much bigger Robert Wyatt fan here than a Gilmour fan, I must say. Wyatt's version of Elvis Costello's Shipbuilding, for example, is quite brilliant. Although I shall be passing by Gilmour's houseboat/studio where this new album was recorded when I visit some friends the day after tomorrow.
@@martinstarnes2237 How cool is that - passing by his houseboat studio. by the way Martin - last night I GOT YOUR PACKAGE. This is amazing. I love your letter and your story and the gig list - so right up my alley. And the PINK FLOYD KNEBWORTH Ticket stub. If it's ok with you I would like to show this in my next haul video - this is very special, I'm very excited and THANKS THANKS for your generosity. Really thanks so much.
I'm getting mine on Saturday.Looked like you had a smirk on your face and I'm thinking your wife was giving you a hard time Alan lol
No not at all - just really tired - long day.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Another great review Alan looking forward to getting mine
@@thomaswery3087 Thanks - let me know what you think of it.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow will do my friend
Are you going to a Gilmour show?
Ticket prices way out of my league and sold out so fast. I'm still blown away by the demand of this tour. I mean I know it's David Gilmour but he used to play Radio City and like one night at the Garden. This was astonishing. And at those ticket prices no less. Amazing.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Prices insane and yeah I also can’t believe the demand. However maybe much of the demand was ticket brokers??!! I’ll be curious what third parties drop to night of….
@@Larrybabbin1957 yea I'll be looking at it. Definitely for me one of the most shocking in demand ticket sales openers. Maybe because its such a limited tour and people will be travelling to it? I don't know.
Hi, I answered this in your other comment. Sorry you don't like it. Wondering if you're a fan of David Gilmour or later day Pink Floyd - Momentary Lapse Of Reason and The Division Bell. If so, it's very surprising to me that you don't love this album. I love it and it's actually even getter better the more I hear it.
