Nice blues, Mike! I too am brand new to saltwater fishing on the fly rod. I've caught a few bluefish, stripers, and albies on conventional table on Martha's Vineyard, but am looking forward to this fall targeting them with fly equipment.
Yikes! Those blues hit hard and fight great. Guess you leave the 2 wt. rod and size 24 midges at home! Thanks for the cool video, Mike. It’s been a while but used to fish Clousers for stripers on the Sacramento River delta. Them and blues are serious fish!
Awesome video Mike I used the fly rod for all fish striped bass are so much fun to catch I enjoy catching 45inch muskie on my 10 weight and 35 inch catfish are fun to all fish are fun on a fly rod
Bluefish on the fly is a lot of fun! Cool to see you catch your first on the fly and to hear you got your first striper. I just got back from SC where I caught my first redfish and it was a great experience! I love Greg's energy and will keep him in mind for a trip this fall. Great video, man!
Glad to see you catching a fish that can give you a run for your money! Pound for pound you can’t beat the power of this fish the blue fish. You also have to get you sea legs, you were looking a little sea sick
Totally didn't expect to see a bluefish video on your channel. Really liked the intro drone footage with music. Let me know if you ever get to Maine, maybe we can do a small stream brook trout collab or something.
Have caught more bluefish and stripers than I can count. (Maine native and commercial fisherman) We would stop hauling lobster traps to throw at blues and stripers during the summers growing up.
i have fished LBI from shore while on vacation. People look at you funny when you are fly casting from the beach but i have caught flounder, blues and stripers over the years.
Mike, another great video, thank you. Will you give us a little more detail about your set up? Rod weight, type of line used (sinking?), and any other key details. Much appreciated.
We used a number of different rods from 7-9wt. Most of the fish were caught on my main weapon on choice... GLoomis NRX-1pc 8wt with Hatch 7plus rugged with Cortland heavy 9ips sinking line, 30# short twisted leader stepped down to 15# with a 4” 35# single stand wire bite tippet.
Very Cool Mike! Definitely fun to watch! Ya gotta love it when the guide is just as excited as you are... you can tell they love what they do!
Those fish fight that hard and they are 1-3 lbs? That’s unreal. Really cool to see you fishing in saltwater. Thanks for sharing.
You bet Nathan, ya they fight like crazy!
Had an awesome time Mike! Thanks for jumping aboard!
I got the bug now man!
I knew were giving the trout a break but I didn’t expect this. This is cool man!
Thanks Troy, just keeping things fresh!
Awesome. Makes me miss great saltwater bites. No shame in live lining for striper. You do what you got to do to catch fish.
I had fun live lining the striped bass, would love to get one of the fly some day!

Blue fish fight hard as well as striped bass. Awesome video, looks fun. I would love to do it sometime.

Well, I gotta chase a musky next!
One of my favorite summer things to do is to fly cast to Blue Fish! I take a few each year for the Smoker!
It is a complete thrill, I wanna go do it again now.
Yummy 👊👊
From creek brook trout to gator bluefish. I like it.

He’s a super cool guy and has lived in LBI his entire life.
Rad man! love ur vids.
Thanks Keith, I appreciate that.
That was awesome Mike. You catch fish no matter what!
Been surf fishing LBI for decades. Nice!
I’m sure you’ve had lots of fun! I wanna go back and do it again! I can see how it could become a life long hobby... going down to LBI.
We go down in the off season, right after it. Haven't done much on the fly there. It always seems to be real windy, and get a day or so break to fish.
Been doing from the beach for years!. Love it I forgot what a trout looks like. Lol
I haven't had much interest in salt water fly fishing but that looks like a blast!
Saltwater fly fishing is a blast. Nothing better than a tarpon on the fly

Awwwwww!!! Mannnn!!! Ya got me going partner!!! I’m at work itching to get my line wet!!!!! TIGHTLINES BRO

Thanks Polarized, I’d love to make it up to Maine at some point to fish brookies. I hear it’s the best state in the east for brookies.
Ready for some Blind Sea Robbins!

Tom H H My family used to vacation in LBI when I was a young kid. There’s some great fishing down there. But it’s the most fun on the fly rod!
Great channel you have here, congrats 👍
I remember I was fishing for blues and then we lost all our lures. All I had left were hooks. They bite the hooks.

Thanks for the comment Tony, looks like Greg got ya covered with the details here.
Can you catch these from shore ?? Or are they mainly caught by boat. Looks like so much fun!
@@FishermansHeadquarters Thanks Greg!
@@WoolyBugged Thanks Mike!
Man my stomach is so weak ...I got sea sick just watching the boat rock 😆
Once you are hooked up your mind focuses on one thing... the fish!
Lefty Krehs books on Saltwater Fly Fishing is manditory.
Good to see you finally got on a saltwater bite. Research Martha’s Vineyard for summer bass on the fly.
Thanks for the tip Todd!
Good the capt knows what he’s doing... that old south jetty will bite if you don’t know where you are going!
He mentioned that as we were fishing!
nice video. what test bite tippet did he have on? how many pounds? thanks
When a brook trout fly fisherman hooks into a bluefish. And I know he fishes for salmon and steelhead
It my adrenaline going!
LBI is not Central Jersey!
Brian Woodward it is central on the eastern shore, look on a map.
@@WoolyBugged Long Beach Island is South Jersey.
Yes, we all should develop saltwater fly-skills.
What set up are you using
So Mikey -- you likey ?
I loved it man, loved it!
Bluefish are very aggressive fish
Good eating as long as they are right out of the water!
Haha a little dizzy I feel sea sick 🤮 watching this but 👍
I know, I hate filming with the GoPro, but in self-filming mode, was my only option!
