    Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the part in the video at 7:28 when Keith shows off his original bucket seat. 👏 I think it got overlooked in the comments. The man’s a genius not just with the welder… Looking forward to the next episode.

    I remember mine brand new I was told first in the country came from a motor show in Ireland still had stilleto marks on the carpet. Honestly I love minis had a few but was so disappointed with the car, spent more time in the bodyshop having rust issues sorted it became a standing joke. Charles Clark said to me what do you expect its an old design ! The last straw was the suspension went on one side front and rear within a week. Ended up trading it in for an XR4i. Missed it but man did it have rust issues for a new car. I'm going to enjoy this resto Keith keep up the great work. BTW mine was a Racing Green billed as the new Cooper...

    This brings back terrible memories of my first car, a 1969 Mini bought in 1981 for £300. RDD 693G. I constantly chased rust on that think throughout the time I owned it. I've never considered owning one again despite it being fun to drive.

      You said your not putting back in the dash, do you have a plan for it or are you gonna sell it? Mine has no dash and I have a blank I was gonna craft into something and paint it. But if your selling that then would make a better base to start from maybe.

  • @paulrobinson3528

    Lots of work there Keith, i'm afraid you will find more than you bargained for to. Would it be worth pulling the front off, engine and subframe out before doing the sills etc?? Would be a lot lot easier to work on? Which ever you do it though, it will be a good interesting watch. What was that big lump of cast iron on the back of the bench i didn't see!

    • @classicminiworkshop
      @classicminiworkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You must be a mind reader! I've just got to the point where all the sill is off, I've repaired the back but I think next steps will be to get the front end off. It's a nasty mess on the toe board and front floor pan.

    Keith, quick question when at the start of the video after the shunt around the garage you put sprouts battery on charge, the battery being in the boot I couldn't make out where you connected the charger under the bonnet, can you enlighten me..

    • @classicminiworkshop
      @classicminiworkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I connect the negative to a head stud and the positive to the alternator B+ connector (The large one) as it goes straight back to the battery.

    Does the front subframe have all solid mounts? From what I’ve read on the forums, you normally get cracking when someone has mixed rubber mounts and solid. If they’re all solid mounts the toe board is less likely to crack apparently.
    And no definitely didn’t see the engine block 🙈

    I think the only way to fix that rear shelf is to buy a new panel. M-Machine list them at around £80 (cheaper than Heritage)

    • @classicminiworkshop
      @classicminiworkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. I didnt know M-Machine did that panel.

    • @surfblue63
      @surfblue63 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@classicminiworkshop Just checked at M-Machine and the price is now £99 plus VAT (my link to the catalogue was old). They use the same part number (14A6564) as Heritage and Mini Spares, so it is probably a Heritage panel. Mini Spares will have their Black Friday event soon, so I'd wait until then and save £10.

    The Mk1 Mini Cooper S MUST rate as one of my all time favorites, they were the HOT ( hatch sized car ) 20 years before the Mk1 Golf came along!
    I DO NOT LIKE those HORRIBLE newer Minis with their German running gear ( BMW ) HATE LOATHE DESPISE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!! 😡😠😠😡Putting the ''John Cooper'' name on them is an INSULT John Cooper had NOTHING to do them IF he is still alive???? He would be quite old by now! Like ALL old Classic cars they RUST, my first car was an 850 Mini van a countryman, later i owned a Mk2 Escort EVERYTIME at WOF ( Warrant of Fitness ) MORE RUST another $500 in Rust repairs 😡😠😡the engine was tired/gutless fouled it spark plugs regularly I SOLD IT for a decent price 😀😀, the 850 Mini engine although healthy enough did not have much too offer, after 50mph it was not really interested, better breathing helped!!

    • @surfblue63
      @surfblue63 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Cooper was quite enthusiastic about the new MINI and helped to develop the original John Cooper Works parts for the cars. Also I think his family still make a royalty on the name being used.

    • @classicminiworkshop
      @classicminiworkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A BMW Mini is no replacement for a classic for sure! Interestingly I don't think the earlier BMW Mini ever got BMW running gear! I'm sure it was a Chrysler engine from Brazil and a Rover box in the early BMW Minis and a PSA engine after that. The more recent BMW Minis are purely BMW running gear as far as I know. Although, I'm no expert on the BMW cars
