THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BAH

  • Here are some things I think you should know about BAH. It can kind of a confusing thing sometimes when we first get married. However, it is super easy to understand, but don't get carried away with it! BAH doesn't change if you have more than 1 dependant. It will stay the same. So manage it right, budget, and you will be good to go!

    Living off-base is great! You get your chose of where you want to live. And privacy away from the military. We save $250 each month just from our BAH! It's very helpful for my husband & I living together.

    Aside from my rant, I love watching your videos! You give some pretty great advice and inspire me to help other spouses, particularly younger ones. I am learning from experience how hard it can be to be a spouse (and how wonderful!), and I wouldn't have learned half of what I know now if it wasn't for all the people in my life guiding me and giving me advice!

    This is literally the best information I got today! My husband is at AIT we have no idea where hes gunna get stationed and my biggest fear was weather or not we should live on base. That and we have a huge lab that needs a backyard and I know that there is a waitlist for the housing in base. So thank you!❤

    I could just rant forever about marrying for the benefits! I married my husband super young, but I was 100% able to support myself before we married and I am still 100% able to support myself almost a year after. In my opinion, I just feel like WHAT BENEFITS?! Yeah, you get extra money for housing and health insurance is somewhat cheaper... but most of us military spouses spend so much time alone while our spouses are risking their life! Don't get me wrong I got so much done while my husband has been away! (Lost thirty pounds, finished extra classes, saved money)But to me that just really isn't worth it compared to the fact that he is in South Korea, and anything happen... Just overall, marrying for the benefits is stupid, because honestly if you really love that person there is no benefit compared to them being gone ALL the time or just the constant feeling knowing that anything can happen to them. If you love them and want it to work then wait until you are ready.

    Hi, I don't know if you'll see this or be able to respond but I thought I'd give it a shot - my boyfriend is also in the Navy and we're now going to be moving in together. He got based up in Washington state. We're trying to find apartments near the base and the ones we found seem nice but the reviews are awful. Do you have any recommendations for apartment complexes, good areas, areas to stay away from, anything of that sort?

    • @BritCon2
      @BritCon2  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What city will he be in? Also check out Trulia and Areavibes! Trulia gives you a breakdown of crime near whatever home/apartment you are looking at and Areavibes gives letter grades to different sections of the city based on finances, schools, jobs, crime, etc.

    • @BritCon2
      @BritCon2  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would look at how close base housing is (or if it’s on base) and how much it costs vs an apartment. Sometimes base housing is far and also apartments are cheaper. So you could save money for your baby. Just make a pros/cons list if you can!

    When you look into on or off post. Have you considered that bah covers water, maintenance, partial electric and partial gas on top of just rent?( on post - Atleast at a lot of bases/ posts I’ve seen/ lived at)
    I usually see that people only assume the bah goes to just rent.
    In our area while the rent avg is $850 for an apartment. The utilities and extra fees usually end up going over bah or right under bah. But then the difference in gas to go home to a farther area makes you spend more.
    Is that something y’all take into consideration when planning to live on or off post? How do y’all go about that choice ?

    • @BritCon2
      @BritCon2  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! We take all of it into consideration. Usually, apartments cover that also. The first apartment we lived in here covered everything except for the internet. Here also, where we are stationed, military housing is about 15 minutes from base. So we would have to use gas for both of our jobs. So it is important to take it all into consideration because every base is different!

    • @carriekelly3924
      @carriekelly3924 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brit+Con but I stayed in military housing. I felt safer living on base. I use to visit my friends who lived off base and they had to worry about a lot things that happened or could happen off base. I never had that issue on base. So that’s the reason I chose to live on base.

      Actually, the BAH policy for all service members joining after 1 January 2018 is different. For dual service couples, only one will receive BAH, for everyone else they will be required to report their housing expenses BAH will only cover that amount. They voted on this policy in 2016 to cut down on BAH costs, but it only affects people joining after 1 January 2018. You can read about it here: www.stripes.com/senate-housing-allowance-reform-would-end-windfalls-of-rent-sharing-1.411522 I also have a video about it on my channel, and WildBlueYonder did a great video on it as well.
