    Perspective from American - for a nice beer (pint) of craft beer in the US in most larger cities at least 7-8 dollars ($) per pour. Happy hour (Monday-Friday from 3 or 4pm to 5:30-6pm) can be $5 per pint but we also tend to tip $1 per beer (pint) -- so yeah tends to be a bit much. Whiskey maybe $9-$11 per drink. As the Euro appreciates you’ll be able to buy more in the USA. Cheers!

    I'm an Irishman through and through and have passed my biblical three score and ten years. As part of my upbringing I was taught how to distill poteen or moonshine as it's called in other countries. In the early years I used peat to fire up the distillation process but the blue smoke gave my position away to the Gardai. I have been using bottled gas ever since and couldn't possibly meet those high prices in pubs.

    • @Corrky

      When my father arrived in Canada in the '50s he had a visit from to police officers searching for the source of some "reported strong alcohol fumes." He invited them in to look around and they had a nice discussion on immigrating to Canada from Dublin versus Cork and how filling a roof exhaust stack with activated charcoal would make it much more difficult to track down which house was operating a still.

    I don't mind paying $5-6 for a pint of a "good" premium beer here in the U.S.; however, "domestic" beers here (Labatt, Molsen, Bud, Coors, Miller) are typically much cheaper, $2-4.

    Here on the sunny wet coast of Canada, after all taxes and minimum mark-ups are calculated for the price of a whiskey is easy to calculate at 8.6 times the wholesale price at a minimum. So comparing the price list of my local Galway pub to my local Burnaby pub since they are both nice enough to have at least one whiskey in common. Galway 12 euro, Burnaby 24 euro.

      @@Corrky ahhhhh yes…. But you see in Canada and the U.S.A it may cost the same while you’re out at a bar or nightclub. But the median income is much, much lower in Ireland. For Ireland 40 grand is quite a lot of pay yearly. Here in the U.S it’s poverty level if you only get paid that low yearly.
      In addition the amount of taxes in Ireland the government takes out of your pay is way higher than the U.S or Canada. So for the Irish that is a lot for them and not us @Spondre
      Sure in a nightclub in Miami it’s like $25-$30 so the same In Euro for a drink. But you leave the nightclub and for a professional job you’ll get paid $80,000 to $200,000 per year.

    • @Corrky
      @Corrky  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh I agree completely. I can only dream of having 40 grand :)

    Prices for alcohol are considerably more in Canada. Easily pay $20 for a nice cocktail here. A can of Guinness in a store here is about $4 and it tastes s...t.

    • @Corrky

      Cans of Guinness should be forbidden by law. That will never be good anywhere, including Ireland.

    €12 for noodles!, what a joke!, can’t imagine they’ll stay in business for long with prices like that. I recently visited a restaurant in Kerry, their vegetarian Caesar salad was €15, the restaurant was empty, not a surprise!

    €8.50 for a glass of wine in a Dublin suburban pub on Friday May 2024. I didnt have a second one. €3 in Spain with a Tapa of your choice. I guess they would rather you increase your carbon footprint. Everyone please boycott Irish pubs to force change.

    Ireland is seriously overpriced and it’s not even a good place. Bad food, bad nightlife, terrible weather and bad women 😆. So many other places you could go in Europe for a quarter of the price and ten times better in terms of everything. Portugal, poland, Czech Republic , Croatia. Just to name a few.

    • @Corrky
