Hi, Joris. First, we'd like to apologize for the delays in sending you the shipping label. Certainly, this is not the type of experience we want you to have. Be happy that you were not tricked or anything like that. My Mavic Air 2 had two broken arms and it fell into water. However, the gimbal and camera module was working fine - the electronics did so as well (I let the drone dry for around a week before plugging a battery back in to check the status). I sent it in. DJI told me the drone had to be fully replaced and offered me such a replacement for 500€.
      Their damage assessment was:
      - water damage / red liquid damage LED was turned on
      - crash damage
      - gimbal/camera module not working
      - corrosion on boards
I assume they did only check if the red LED was turned on and as it was, they wrote all the rest and wanted to have it replaced. I even told them that I know the camera module/gimbal was working when I sent it, but they told me that the engineers are doing a thorough damage assessment and that they need to replace it - but they offered me a "discount" of 10%.
Long story short: I had it sent back to me, bought two arms for 44€ and replaced them myself - a little bit of screwing and soldering, it was quite some fun to do it. Upon the first start, the drone told me that the camera module and the front sensors were not recognized. After re-disassembling the first layer of the drone, I found that DJI resent me the drone with the camera module's and front sensor's flex-cables disconnected. I reconnected them and everything is fine now.
I understand that DJI cannot give me any guarantees or similar on water damages, but lying to me by saying the gimbal/camera module is defective (and sending it to me with having it disconnected - did they want to trick me into thinking that it truly does not work anymore?!?) is what I'd call horribly bad customer support.
However, I am happy that I have repaired my drone for 44€ and the project was cool anyways! But for me, the reputation of DJI dropped heavily after this.

This is what I think judging by other reviews: you send the drone in and then dji simply checks it and think of a suitable cost and then send you a refurbished one to speed up the process. Then they will use your drone and use the parts to make it into another refurbishment for the next person.

    • @JorisHermans

Sounds plausible. I could try to remove the new serial number sticker to see what number is underneath... 🤔😄

Yeah, I can confirm this from my experience. I got a different drone with a different serial number. I contacted DJI support to confirm that they had sent me a refurbished drone, and they said yes, that my new drone was a refurbished unit, and that this is typically their process.

I’ve had a DJI Mavic Pro for 3 years now. For various reasons, some my fault some not I’m on my 3rd drone and 3rd controller. When my care refresh expired I had to pay. I totally trashed one with a prop detaching at about 10” feet half a mile away. I still paid about the same as you for a much more complex repair. You are correct about care refresh, but I’ve only ever had great service from DJI, and normally only takes about 10-12 days to the UK.

  • @maxv77

That's cheaper than if you paid for the refresh £80 and then the fee you would then have to pay to get the replacement. £90. So in your case. You saved on this crash. So maybe we don't get the refreash. Ps. It's not your drone you get back. It's always a refurbished unit.

    • @hargabyte
      @hargabyte 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Well this is the risk you take without having refresh. If anything further was wrong it would have cost more than the refresh repair. looking at the damage list it was actually pretty minor repair. just some motors and and arms. no electrical or water damage. nothing wrong with the gimble. just a lens replacement. Its nice to see they are very reasonable on their repair costs. I would love to see a breakdown of the cost of parts and labor because it would seem like their labor costs are very reasonable.

They give you a new serial number for your drone after they repair it.
Or do they give you a refurbished drone
Why would they give you a different serial number if they're using the same drone and repaired it?
This happened to me and I put my serial number in a DJI serial number lookup..
The new serial number came up that the Drone was made second week in August
Because I kept my old serial number I looked that up and it was made in May
so if they give you a new serial number I think they gave you a whole new drone.. not just a serial number..
I will be getting my drone back soon and I will be able to tell you for sure because I took a pen and I made some markings on the Drone that they would not be able to get rid of.. like under the SD card and usb-c connection doors. You know there's no way they're going to replace those.

130 euros I don't think is too bad considering the postage along if you had to get it yourself would be well over 30 euros so realistically I think it's a good price. What's more, is that it's repaired correctly by the manufacturer or their recommended repairer. So should be as good as new.

I bought my Mavic air 2 during black friday.
2 weeks back when I was testing my drone , an accident happened which led to the drone crashing.
I contacted DJI and they gave me all the information on how to go about getting my drone sent for repair.
(The accident that happened was that the drone got an error message that I had to land to restart the drone. Followed by the drone warning that the drone flew over 120m while the drone was on its way down.
When the drone was about 30m from the landing spot, the drone decided to turn off the engines only to start up again seconds late, so it did speed down toward the ground)
I sent in the drone immediately after this happened and today I received a message that the drone accident was due to a technical error, which they will fix free of charge.
In about 2 weeks I will see how good their repair is, but so far I am happy with their support.
