Thank you to your mom-in-law to allow us to tour a portion of her home. It is so beautiful and cozy, with that lovely unique Cape Cod character. I just love the spinning wheel, fireplace and old stoves!
You are so welcome! And I will thank her. She doesn't really understand youtube or such things, she doesn't even have a computer if you can believe it, she is pretty 'old school' haha. And of course they are all very private so no one is willing to be on camera but I respect that. She does LOVE to share her home tho, so this is a kind of way to do that. I wish I could share it with scent in the Autumn with the fire going in the morning room, the big stove roaring in the kitchen and the glenwood cook stove simmering apples or the scent of Christmas pies :)

It is totally the way I remember Cape Cod, from a visit many years ago. We once had a Glenwood stove nearly Identical to hers and had it completely restored. One Christmas the oven caught fire, with the ham inside... don't ask me how! I gave up on the stove and purchased a reproduction.
Hello @Jerri Landers of Hopalong Hollow I know you'd love this house, your creatures would look amazing in it! The funny thing is my MIL has used that stove for YEARS it also came from their Maine house and she has cooked all her meals in it. It's only due to her boyfriend this past year that she cannot light it. It's such a part of that kitchen, lighting the match and turning the little procelaine handles to start the hob/burners, but alas, such is our times. She also has a 20s toaster she still uses that you have to stop and flip the bread half way through, we like to hold onto things round here ha ha New England sensibilities I suppose, I call it romantic others might call it 'cheap' haha.

Can relate! I'm also an artist and composer living on the Cape and have been here year round for 33 years though I spent summers here at my late grandmother's home built in 1776! Also, had baby chicks and a hen house and a pigeon coop my late grandfather had along with his big vegetable garden. This has triggered many wonderful memories on our beloved old Cape Cod, thank you!

Especially in Autumn when the fires are going and the old black cook stove is warm in the kitchen (My favourite spot is an old Morris chair in the corner near that fire I love to sit and sip coffee or tea and visit or hear other's visiting, such a homey sound)

I love going out and finding the first flowers coming up in the spring. There is a spot in Spohr Gardens with daffodils planted along a stone wall by the water - that is usually one of the first places where the daffodils open. Don't you think the Cape has the most beautiful stone walls with such wonderful variety? That rocking chair facing the fireplace looks so comfy! I can picture sitting there in the winter with some handwork and in the summer bringing it out to the deck. Lonnie certainly isn't shy about being photographed LOL Thanks to your mother-in-law for letting us visit her warm, inviting home! Love your hedgehog! Everytime you do a new sketch, I think that one is my favorite.
OH you are so sweet @anniequilts and yes I LOVE our stone walls. When I'm missing England simply driving about looking at all our lovely New England stone walls usually makes me feel better . We are very lucky to live here. I would LOVE to make more stone walls on our property here, we've plenty of stone, only all our machinery rusted out years ago, maybe one day. I do still build small ones here and there and have a small one planned for my new chicken area I'll share on here if I manage to get around to it this year...always so much to do.

I live in a 1920 Cape Cod home in Southern California....in a small 4000 foot mountain town. I didn’t know what style it was when we purchased it 22 years ago...Perhaps the only Cape Cod in this area....
That is wonderful the 'cape cod' really began it's first iteration of popularity in the 1920s ( i read old magazines a lot and in the 20s and 30s the cape cod was a popular style) It's really an efficient use of space and an easy shape in which to expand that's why many New England homes that stretch off in all directions will have at it's center a cap cod house even some colonials (full multi storied) houses might have an ell (or side bit of the house) as the original cape house that started the place out. I love the history of architecture in our country, well in any country really :)

Una is not a chicken but a Coturnix Quail and she is a cross between the traditional colour and another colour breed which I forget the name a 'blue' something. She is a mutt, basically, but my mutt and as she was the Only egg to hatch in batch in my incubator she soon became my fast friend as she only knew me for months. She still isn't quite sure what other quail are, tho haha.
It does but no spinners now, my MIL used to spin her own sheeps wool in the 60's from their Main countryhouse, but alas no more house and no more sheep :)
Yes of course we've had many Summer (and spring and Autumn) swims and my Sister in law (who lives there year round) kayaks it most days. You can also fish in it as well and it's a fun place to snorkel as it's vastly different then when I see in the sea at Bunny Hall. I love water in all it's forms so the first thing I wonder too when I see any bod of it is, 'can I swim in it ' LOL. Good question.
