I went back and rewatched the keynote and the new Siri design and understanding “will be available the moment you start using Apple intelligence”. After the demo that they expand on it and say they are planning on bringing more features in the following year like on screen awareness. I’m just a bit confused.

It’s not necessarily arrogance. It’s good business sense to not rely completely on another company. Let’s say ford (for example) gets fully in to bed with Apple to the extent that they stop developing their own software. Then Apple discontinues CarPlay. Ford is F*cked at that point.
You’re assuming providing the best customer experience is the automakers’ priority. Remember a few years ago when the big record companies were suing everybody left and right for downloading music and trading mixtapes? Suing their potential customers? Pre-iTunes, did any of them make any effort to provide a product to satisfy customer demand? Nope. I see the automakers as taking the same approach. Pay a licensing fee to Apple for a superior customer experience? Nah. We’ll contract with Joe’s Software Inc instead. It won’t be as good as CarPlay but who cares? We’ll make $10 more per car.

Also adding a subscription fee for their software to use things like Spotify is nuts. It has nothing to do with who owns who but using the best software that prevents users from using their phones while driving, not having access to basic features, most people will just get their phone out endangering themselves and others because they dont want to pay for a software. Meanwhile i can just press a button on my steering wheel or say "Siri" and i never have to use my hands at all. Just food for thought.
I used to be like that, making sure that I have access to CarPlay until I bought a 2021 BMW 5 series and realised the built in system did everything I needed while driving including built in Spotify support, parking app, navigation in the HUD, weather, news etc.

I did buy a 2024 Lexus with wireless CarPlay and wouldn’t have considered it without, even though Google Maps and Waze are available. I prefer Apple Maps - a far cry from the beginning when Apple Maps was first introduced and was terrible.
Yup I use to have google maps on my home screen as my default navigation on my iPhone but that DRASTICALLY changed over the years. I now have google maps hidden in my App Library. I mainly just use google maps for reviews since most people and businesses use google reviews. Do people still use yelp?? 😂

@landengallahar6095 Apple AI is only coming to the iphone 16 and above... it could come to the 15 pro and pro max... but anything below will just be standard ios releases. Apple will tease AI as a reason to move up from iphone 12,13, and 14.... and those still holding on to an iPhone X, XS, 11 will have a reason to move up to iphone 16.
A flip phone honestly doesn’t make sense imo, js bring back the mini. Wouldn’t be surprised if when it came out the sales wouldn’t do well and they would drop it as fast as they did the mini
iphone 17 pro max and 17 ultra will have strongly upgraded low light photo/video performance. iphone 17 ultra will also be portless. it will use the new action and capture button, along with its increased water resistance from ditching ports- to be useable underwater in the fashion of a gopro. perfect to pair with apple watch ultra.
I doubt it will be portless, not many will buy the iphone if it doesnt have a fast charching port. Having to use a slow magsafe or whatever to charge the phone is not good. Same for those who use wired headphones, they wont be able to do that. So all in all not good.
I wouldn’t buy another car without CarPlay. I absolutely love it. I got my mom to finally use hers on her car so she can be hands free. When I’m on my boyfriend’s car (way older) I miss having the CarPlay feature. If he wasn’t looking to replace one of his cars soon, I’d buy one of those adapters for his car so he could have it as well because I worry when he needs to use his map, call me, or listen to his music when there’s no reception for the actual radio.

I’m on iOS 18 public beta and there is a bug in the camera where when you take the picture it’s blurry for a couple of minutes, makes it hard to know if you’ve actually captured the photo correctly
I have had no problems with 5GUC connectivity on my 14 Pro Max on T-Mobile’s GO 5G Plus plan! What I have had problems with is accessing my Comcast Business Wi-Fi @ my long term care facility! Which is very strange because I have no problems connecting 2 my Mom’s X-Finity Wi-Fi whenever I come home 4 a home visit!
The home indicator, so the white line on the bottom of your screen, is now at the Home Screen too. That’s another Easter egg for apple intelligence because you are going to be able to type to apple intelligence instead of speaking to it and that’s triggered by pressing this white line

I tried beta 3 and battery life was terrible and went back to iOS 17 and recently went back to iOS 18 beta 4.5 and battery life is a lot better and for me even better than iOS 17

I think Max Tech is on the money with his theory that the "slim" is actually the foldable iPhone. It doesn't make sense for the slim to be the "ultra", because the specs aren't as good as the Pro models.
Nope. The volume is still broken for me on my iPhone 14 Pro Max, even after the latest update. 😩 Volume remains blurred out and the device pauses content upon touching the screen. Same when connected to CarPlay. No audio on Instagram or Snapchat either. I've tired EVERYTHING and the only thing that seems to work is disabling Siri. Problem is, you need Siri to run CarPlay. 🤷🏻♂️ WiFi is also malfunctioning. I may have to restore to iOS 17. 🤦🏻♂️
Been hearing rumors about this notion of a slim iPhone 17 for a few weeks now, and I've been considering getting a new iPhone this year or next, but waffling back and forth about it: "Do I hold out and wait another year if it means getting a slimmer phone?" After seeing these spec rumors and seeing that the slim one would be a separate part of the line up - with a bigger screen - I'm almost certainly going to pass on that. I prefer smaller screens (was a proud iPhone 12 mini user for a while), so although I would like a slimmer phone, I don't want to sacrifice the smaller form factor for it. I'm sure it'll look incredible, and I'm happy for the folks who prefer bigger phones - the additional screen real estate on top of a slimmer phone will be quite the look (much like how thin the iPad M4 12" looks compares to the others). Instead, I'm probably just going to get a 16 Pro. Maybe in a few years they'll make all the phones in the line up use the new slim design.
I drive an older car and specifically got one of those portable CarPlay units so I could have it. Will not buy a new car with exceptions if it didn’t have it. Love it.

I've noticed this since Beta 1, in mindfulness on apple watch if you complete a breathe session (maybe reflection too haven't tested it) and log your mood, it jumps back to the main menu of the app when you complete the log instead of the animation where it says "Logged".
apple maps will never be better than google maps any time soon unless you live in a major city. for the people who dont (billions) apple maps can literally be DANGEROUS to navigate with.
I think widgets should match the icons. I will always have to be in Dark Mode if I want dark widgets in this update. I don’t think light widgets and dark icons look good.
I’m still on the public beta and have been hesitant to install the re-release for dev beta 4.5 because EVERY single time I open the photos app and stay in the app for more than three mins, the app crashes and I get taken back to the Home Screen. This is a first time I’ve ever had an app crash on any iOS device. I find it even more strange that the build letter keeps getting pushed back instead of forward. Have you had any issues with the photos app on the re-release? I’ve got an iPhone 13 mini running iOS 16 with a 93% battery health and I get better battery life on my mini than my 14 pro that’s running iOS 18 public beta. Smdh. 😒
Correct about CarPlay not being able to use the rest of the vehicle. I prefer my Jeep's GPS because of dashboard indicators + more that Apple CarPlay just doesnt have
Alot of reviewers on here say no... especially if it's your daily driver. Beta code is not polished and could behave erratically. Some apps will also crash or cease to work. You're also at risk of loosing data as well. I'd wait for ios 18 to be officially released... but if you're willing to take the risk and can deal with reporting bugs and feedback, be sure to backup your data before you go down the path, just in case you want to revert back to 17.6.
I would absolutely not purchase a car without CarPlay! Vehicle control is not my priority but rather being able to keep track of my calendar, iMessages etc especially since I have to spend hours commuting every week. Not to mention my music and podcast library and playlists. I believe GMC announced they are ditching it…which means my Canyon will be my last GMC. With CarPlay also I know I have always up to date maps, regardless of the App I use as opposed to having to pay car dealers $100 or $150 to update the onboard maps every year! 🥴
Markup has a bug that is still present in the latest re-release. When adding text using the Markup feature for PDG files, you cannot adjust the Text parameters. I’m experiencing this on several different devices and only on PDF files.

I'd never get a car without car play. If I decide to switch from iOS back to Android, I still want my friends to be able to connect their phones so it's not just about me it's about other people in the car as well.
Downtown Los Angeles also has the hyper realistic buildings in Apple Maps. It's only the larger or more famous buildings, there's about 5 or 6 of them.
I always wanted Apple Maps on my Tesla but when I went on a long road trip recently it kinda made sense of why they don’t. I was going through the mountains and it was hot that day so my battery estimation at time of arrival kept fluctuating and I had to charge more often than the Tesla expected by to before I left. Had I relied solely on Apple Maps I could have gotten there with negative battery percentage and would had to have called for a tow. Mind you I way in the mountains with no service. So if they were to put any third party app navigation this can become extremely dangerous for people who don’t know any better. The only way this would work is if apple and tesla came together to make the Tesla talk directly to CarPlay but I’m not sure how complicated it would be and if Tesla or apple would be open to that
I have had huge issues with the IOS public beta. My screen time settings are completely broken. I cant click on screen time in settings, dismiss screentime within apps and see statistics. This is even when going through spotlight. I'm interested if anyone else is facing these issues.

Be aware on Beta 4 I had to disable Sound Recognition! It was using 43% of battery power. Once I turned it off, battery life has been great!

I had a HUGE phone heating up where my phone battery would die in 1 hour. Now once 4.5 came out, it fixed the heating and battery.

They fixed the photo darkening issue in ios 18 for the camera. I’m happy about that.

I think widgets should match the icons. I will always have to be in Dark Mode if I want dark widgets in this update. I don’t think light widgets and dark icons look good.
I’m still on the public beta and have been hesitant to install the re-release for dev beta 4.5 because EVERY single time I open the photos app and stay in the app for more than three mins, the app crashes and I get taken back to the Home Screen. This is a first time I’ve ever had an app crash on any iOS device. I find it even more strange that the build letter keeps getting pushed back instead of forward. Have you had any issues with the photos app on the re-release? I’ve got an iPhone 13 mini running iOS 16 with a 93% battery health and I get better battery life on my mini than my 14 pro that’s running iOS 18 public beta. Smdh. 😒

Correct about CarPlay not being able to use the rest of the vehicle. I prefer my Jeep's GPS because of dashboard indicators + more that Apple CarPlay just doesnt have

Alot of reviewers on here say no... especially if it's your daily driver. Beta code is not polished and could behave erratically. Some apps will also crash or cease to work. You're also at risk of loosing data as well. I'd wait for ios 18 to be officially released... but if you're willing to take the risk and can deal with reporting bugs and feedback, be sure to backup your data before you go down the path, just in case you want to revert back to 17.6.

I would absolutely not purchase a car without CarPlay! Vehicle control is not my priority but rather being able to keep track of my calendar, iMessages etc especially since I have to spend hours commuting every week. Not to mention my music and podcast library and playlists. I believe GMC announced they are ditching it…which means my Canyon will be my last GMC. With CarPlay also I know I have always up to date maps, regardless of the App I use as opposed to having to pay car dealers $100 or $150 to update the onboard maps every year! 🥴

I absolutely would not a new car without CarPlay. I have yet to experience an intuitive infortainment system from car manufacturers.
Markup has a bug that is still present in the latest re-release.
When adding text using the Markup feature for PDG files, you cannot adjust the Text parameters.
I’m experiencing this on several different devices and only on PDF files.

I'd never get a car without car play. If I decide to switch from iOS back to Android, I still want my friends to be able to connect their phones so it's not just about me it's about other people in the car as well.

Downtown Los Angeles also has the hyper realistic buildings in Apple Maps. It's only the larger or more famous buildings, there's about 5 or 6 of them.

I always wanted Apple Maps on my Tesla but when I went on a long road trip recently it kinda made sense of why they don’t. I was going through the mountains and it was hot that day so my battery estimation at time of arrival kept fluctuating and I had to charge more often than the Tesla expected by to before I left. Had I relied solely on Apple Maps I could have gotten there with negative battery percentage and would had to have called for a tow. Mind you I way in the mountains with no service. So if they were to put any third party app navigation this can become extremely dangerous for people who don’t know any better. The only way this would work is if apple and tesla came together to make the Tesla talk directly to CarPlay but I’m not sure how complicated it would be and if Tesla or apple would be open to that
I have had huge issues with the IOS public beta. My screen time settings are completely broken. I cant click on screen time in settings, dismiss screentime within apps and see statistics. This is even when going through spotlight. I'm interested if anyone else is facing these issues.
I have also experienced issues when turning it off on other devices.
