Dad is Meatloaf. Jack Black says they did a rehearsal where they put up a 'Bat out of Hell' poster up on the wall. Meatloaf saw it, burst out laughing and refused to tear it down.

The dad, played by Meat Loaf, is actually a major name in rock. His album “Bat Out of Hell” is the third highest selling record of all time. I remember in an interview Jack Black said his family were very supportive of this rock music.
Jack's parrent were supportive, metaloaf's (Michael Lee Aday) dad (or one of his parents) was closer to this depiction from what I have heard.
This is just the opening to the movie. It's not how Jack Black grew up. He has said his parents are loving and supportive of him. ❤ His parents are actually scientists. They helped him get his first acting job as a kid in commercials.

Just in case you were interested, the actor playing young Jack Black is Troy Gentile, he plays Barry Goldberg in the Goldbergs. He played a young Nacho Libre as well. Also, the singer Meatloaf was not going to make the appearance on the movie but his kids asked him to do it because they were big fans of Tenacious D. Just FYI.

Jack Black started a band called "Tenacious D" with his buddy Kyle Gass (way back when).
They opened for Pearl Jam in LA (in the early 90s), and have an annual music fest called "Festival Supreme".
Jack Black is a multi-talented entertainer, and is both a musician and actor.
His band mate and fellow song writer (Kyle Gass), also has his own solo projects. The two get together to play shows when JB is available.
JB (Jack Black), goes by "Jables" sometimes (you can hear the singer in the poster call him that in the video).
The singer in the poster is the late, GREAT, Ronnie James Dio, and his father in the video is a singer named Meatloaf.
Kyle Gass is also known as KG.
These are nicknames Jack and Kyle have given one another over the years.

In real life, Jack Black is from Santa Monica, and his parents were actually very supportive, encouraging him to develop his talents. It's a trope that follows up on the fact that there have been quite a few famous musicians who came from some BFE middle-of-nowhere towns, and very conformist environments, sometimes with downright oppressive family lives. They kind of blur fact and fiction, as Jack and Kyle are real people, but portraying comical versions of themselves.
