Just beat this game for the first time tonight. This game is very well-designed, not only for 1990, but even today. I see now why it is so highly regarded among Mario fans; it's an amazing game.

Bowser was hip in Mario 3 before being hip (using terms like “Yo!” “Wazzup!” “Doo” [like around the beginning of Shark Tale] and “Bro”) was even mainstream in America (if not the whole world, since it is a Northern American thing).
No matter how repetitive/shortly lasted/looped it can get, we cannot help but wanna listen to the Mario 3 soundtrack again and again for how catchy and 1980s (Nintendo) it is!
I love how once they got the Hammer Bros Suit they just resisted the urge to become anything else, ducking to the music and spastically avoiding enemies in order to protect the suit. I know most people always associate SMB3 with the Racoon or Tanuki suits, but for me the Hammer Suit was a brilliant addition they didn't return to for a long time. I was said to see it ultimately go later in the run.
The Hammer Bros Suit is also the quikest way to kill Bowser. Throw hammers at him, and within a few hits, he dies, no need to let him break the floor and fall to his doom.
@@Bloodreign1 is NES version of Ninja Gaiden has the same dreadful GAME OVER screen like the arcade version or just a regular game over screen instead?
The Hammer Suit can also kill other enemies which you normally cannot with fireballs, I believe. Bowser takes only 4 hits with the hammer suit, and the Koopalings take 3. They really should've brought this one back more often, though I do love the boomerang suit from Super Mario 3D World as a good replacement.
Oh my goodness!!! My childhood has returned. My brother used to curse this game out like there was no tomorrow. It was hilarious. He would get so mad at the game and start crying. Mario 3 for life!!!
Agreed, it made us cringe when we saw someone thumb up a comment about why Mario 3 why on a list of worst Mario games instead of a best list (there are no actual honourable mentions, unless they could count as “entries that didn’t make it to the list for reasons”) being that “it didn’t age as well as the Mario games by The Software Toolworks”.
My dad played the original NES version of this game many, many years ago! I have the Virtual Console version of this cool NES game on my Nintendo Wii, and it's really awesome! Great walkthrough!
It's designed to come out of the block moving in the opposite direction than you. If you're on the right side of the block when it starts moving, it goes left. Left side of the block, it goes right.
Oh man... the memories... the nostalgia! Watching this playthrough and listening to the musics gave me mixed feelings of happiness and sadness... happiness because of the good times I had while playing this during my childhood, with my dad and friends, and sadness, because those times are long gone... This game is legendary!
You only died once, but more than halfway through, messed up in the matching game once, but still finished, and got all stars at the end of each level. That.. Was.. Awesome
This game looks WAY BETTER on HD! As far as Mario games go, this was even better than Super Mario World. You had more power-ups, and more diversity. A lot of secrets in Super Mario World were way too cryptic to find unless you had a guide. This was a game where a lot of elements could be found just by playing the game
Both games could be cryptic, but this game DEFINETELY had a few secrets which were WAY more difficult to uncover than Super Mario World. I'm mostly thinking about the secret coin ships or some of the hidden powerup rooms. SMW had text boxes telling you about secret exits and game mechanics. The only written hints in SMB3 came from Princess Peach's letters at the end of each world. Overall, though, I would argue both games had incredibly well-designed secrets which left just enough hints for players to uncover through their own experimentation. Both games are awesome in general, and their strengths and weaknesses really balance out well, so it's hard to say which one's better. Personally, I think Super Mario World wins by a small margin because it's more replayable than Super Mario Bros. 3, but that's just my view.
Okay ya . I’d say this is the holy grail of all Mario games . I’ve played them all, and for some reason this one always stuck out as the most fun and classic

So how do I know exactly what the theme music sounds like at all times, do our brains assemble it in pieces in some fashion or what? Serious question hoping for an intelligent answer
I've played this games numerous times over.... I never knew until watching this that you could swim under the boats in the 8th World like that. You learn something new everyday. Awesome walk through. At least you utilized the different suits, unlike some other walk through's I've seen. Only thing I wish you had shown was how Statue Mario is capable of killing/popping away the Rotodisc's, and I think Podoboo (the fire ball) as well.
I wish I could explain why SMB3 is superior to SMW. Actually, I suppose because no one and I mean NO ONE would've expected SMB3 to turn out the way it did, especially after after SMB2. The third Mario bros game really set the bar very high, and the fourth entry into the series had a lot to live up to. What I'm sayin' is that SMB3 is that proverbial "lightning in a bottle". lol. SMW, in my humble opinion, and to this very day, hasn't lived up to, let alone meet the expectations of it's predecessor. It was just a continuation of SMB3. There's a huge contrast between part 2 and 3; not so much with part 3 and part 4.
Memories. The very first video game I completed as a kid. The proudness I felt that day has almost gone unmatched to this day, over 20 years later. Level 4, world 7: Nice one. Excellent really.

Good job, I wanted to watch a longplay of this and you provided it sir. But you do understand how to control which side of the box the 1-up mushrooms come out on, right? It's always forced out of the opposite side that you hit it on from underneath.
If you look on the intro when mario gets hit by the koopa he goes from raccoon mario to tiny mario because the Japanese version is this way and the USA version mario goes to normal mario when get hit
Mario con colita, siempre te llevo muy dentro de mi corazón. :-)
Awesome! I couldn't even reach the final stage when I played this at elementary school age.
For me, the best game of NES.
Para mí, el mejor juego de NES.
this game bring back memories I miss it
I am with you people in spirit what a nice job this game is
I should have more control over the nes now that I am age 32 because of button pressing delays and epileptic sickness etc
This game is almost 30 years old.
IMO cheats like pause and walking through walls spoilt the game. Also would have enjoyed to see the game of master on levels of 8th world, which were passed mostly by air
I LOVE IT, MY CHILDHOOD, AND NOW I 'M STILL PLAYING MARIO CAUSE I REALLY REMEMBER MY CHILDHOOD MEMORY
You make each level seem easy. I struggled from world 3-8
Awww Memories.... love this Game, Nice going.

It‘s so satisfying to watch your play. Good work man!
Epic moment.
I love this too much, brings back memories. Thanks for sharing! 😄😄
