Doesn’t mean there is no proof of existence, ultra skepticism is basically like being too detached from the reality.

      @Anon-uv9mj 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IshaaqNewton i had in the past somewhat struggled with it, I’m better now الحمد لله . Make dua and may Allah heal you. It’s a dangerous thing honestly and i think its only the result of being too detached from reality and other people.
      I’d say that just making dua, spending a lot of time with other people and in nature and just listening to the recitation of Quran is very helpful. (Try all that)
      In contrast pondering too much over philosophical arguments and isolating oneself from other people and spending more time on the phone than outside of it used to make it worse for me.
      And it may be not satisfactory for you to kinda stop looking too deep into philosophy, but honestly by continuing it’s just you engaging in every thought satan puts in your mind.
      There is the natural disposition to know that killing is wrong (and this is why many atheists still hold on to this, despite the fact that atheism leads to nihilism) but if some people spend too much time in isolation or with murderers they may start not seeing anything wrong with killing.
      Same applies to everything else, if a person doubts their own existence it’s just going too far from reality.
      And I honestly don’t know what logical argument to give someone who doubts their own self. The only thing that worked for me was noticing my own problem soon enough and just being like ‘what’s the point’ what’s the point of doubting it, there can only be harm to going down that road, and so i literally just ‘gave up’ the concept of ultra skepticism. And by the will of Allah I’m doing better now and i just feel more in touch with reality. There is no logical argument i personally can form, but just that one themselves should turn back soon enough if they are at the point of doubting themselves, there can only be benefit from giving up on ultra skepticism. Plus ultra skepticism is also one of those things like postmodernism which are internally contradictory. Like to conclude that one is ultra skeptic or to just conclude that ‘you doubt your own existence’ to just come to that conclusion you have to trust the ability of your brain to make conclusion, which itself is doubted by ultra skeptics.
      It’s basically that you need faith in your rational faculties in order to doubt or to make any conclusions, or the ‘doubt’ itself will be of no meaning.
      I hope i articulated that properly, i do realize this comment is a bit all over the place.
      But remember you lose nothing by giving up philosophy, it’s only satan that is stopping you. Just try it and only once your vision is cleared you will realize how your position was wrong (just like a murderer may not see that they are wrong, no matter how many arguments are presented, but they will only acknowledge it once they are in touch with reality again) and that can only happen by the will of Allah, so make dua. And may He guide you.

    7:00 that's interesting. I assume the law is the same in the UK, but here in Ireland, just because a product is mislabeled doesn't mean they have to sell it to you for the price advertised.
    The displayed price is an "invitation to treat", or an invitation to the customer to make an offer which can then be accepted or rejected by the shopkeeper.

    I wonder whether Alex will still look so fondly on those New Atheist works in a few more years. Definitely good fun for a teen discovering his atheism but wonder whether it really nourishes and enriches much beyond that.

    • @spud1907
      @spud1907 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      As an atheist in my late 30's, these are still good reads. But I think it would be missing the point to say any of these books "nourish." It is almost like people are trying to say these books are suppose to replace holy books in atheist's life, and that is not true. For an atheist, it is up to them individual to find what "nourishes" and "enriches" their life. They may read more philosophical and science books to learn more about logic and how the world words...but that is not what is enriching life. It is all about experiences, and what you do with the one life you have.

    All those books/knowledge and yet you have still succumb to the highly flawed vegan philosophy.
    FACT: Any ethical/moral belief system that is subjective and arbitrary is worthless.
    FACT: It is impossible for humans to exist without killing other life.
    1a. Given these indisputable facts, please explain the reasoning for the apparent subjective and arbitrary ethical/moral nature of picking and choosing which life is worth going to great lengths to save (cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, fish) and which life is worth turning a blind eye to in the name of, as vegans put it; what is “possible and practicable” (plants, bugs, insects, field animals, vermin, aquatic life, dogs, cats, humans, etc).
    1b. If you state "sentience" as the reasoning for such picking and choosing, then please define sentience.
    1c. Explain what criteria and testing method you are using to determine sentience.
    1d. Explain why you chose sentience rather than some other criteria as the reasoning for such picking and choosing.
    2a. Provide the logical reasoning as to how one can - own a cell phone, fast fashion, computer, eat “blood avocados”, cashews, etc. (human labor exploitation, toxic materials); drive a car & ship exotic fruits in massive fossil fuel burning ships, planes, trains, trucks (global warming); eat factory farmed plant products (environmental destruction, soil erosion, toxic run off, global warming); "own” pets, particularly carnivorous pets such as dogs, cats, snakes, etc. (animal exploitation); and the list goes on and on… - and yet not be hypocritical to the vegan ethos?
    2b. If your reasoning to nullify such a hypocrisy is that veganism seeks to cause no harm to animals “as far as is possible and practicable”, then please define “possible” and define “practicable.”
    2c. Now provide the criteria/method that one would use to determine what is “possible” and what is “practicable” for them.
    2d. Explain how said criteria for determining what is “possible and practicable” potentially being different from one person to another is not in fact subjective and arbitrary.
    **Please provide verifiable evidence to support your answers.
