    Thank you, Ryan!
    Your Dec 28th livestream saved the lives of my brother-in-law and my two baby nieces, they had no power and didn't know a tornado was coming straight to them. I called him when you called it out on the stream, and he got them into their safe spot. Luckily the tornado weaved AROUND the house, literally 5 yards off the back porch, THROUGH the backyard and UP an empty road avoiding any other houses.
    A tree did fall on their roof and destroy their fence, but they are OK and that's what matters!

      we all learn as time goes on. we know more about these storms, all of them; but they still are able to surprise us and throw us an unexpected curve ball. However, people do have to be open to the latest discoveries. if the old fuddy duddy meteorologists in the galveston tx area had listened to the new one on the team, they might have lessened the death toll. however, they didn't and it is now history. long story short: new guy said to get away from the coast, old school. naaah, not going to be much of anything.. and this was about 100 years ago or so.
      Mid november, 2018, Long Island and environs: they totally missed an unexpected strength explosion of this storm. what was thought to only be a 2 inch storm turned into a blizzard..not the worst but no one had prepared. they hadn't treated the roads, no plows were out, and by the time they mobilized it was too late. all I can say is thank god I stayed home that day

    • @Iwillnotbepushed
      @Iwillnotbepushed หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      @ Open your cabinets on any sink that’s on an outside wall. Drip your pipes at the faucets a little bit of hot a little bit of cold. It should come out about the stream of a pencil lead. A little more is OK. Cover your outside faucets. You can cut the bottom off of a 2 L bottle Wrap your outside faucet with rags and stuff the bottle over it. If you find a pipe is frozen do not wait for it to unfreeze on its own. The longer a pipe is frozen the more likely it is to split. When it thaws out that’s when it floods your house. New can also in trouble areas use what’s called a heat trace tape. Wrap that around the pipe then insulate around it with foam insulation from Lowe’s Home Depot or even Dollar General pool noodles. Those are actually the best. Then plug the heat trace tape in and basically forget it because it will turn itself on and off with the temperature if it’s installed right. It has a temperature sensor on the end actually both ends that need to stay in contact with the pipe at all times. Either by a zip tie or electrical tape wrapped around them.

We haven't had much to worry about, in the way of snow, since January, 1994, when we had around three feet over two days. Part of it was thunder snow, with lightning. It pretty much shut down our area and the National Guard had to be called in help get the roads opened back up. Supplies were being dropped by helicopter to people in remote areas and private contractors stepped up to assist in clearing rural roads with bulldozers. I was working as a 9-1-1 Dispatcher at that time, and sure remember the chaos.

    Thank you Ryan for being the best weather channel on TH-cam, for being honest about the forecasts and also understanding that anything is possible. I was watching Max's video last night where the GFS was showing a potential southeast snow storm in the second week of January, and much to my dismay he was adamant in stating that was impossible, really showing his youth and lack of experience or knowledge of meteorological history. I mean it was just this last January (2024) that we got a shot of arctic air here in north Alabama, a storm system moved through and we got 2"-4" of snow in the Huntsville area but since it stayed well below freezing for almost an entire week the snow didn't melt, instead turned to a sheet of ice that covered most roadways for days grinding local travel to a halt. And usually every 5-10 years we do get a significant snow storm that impacts the region when we get these artic blasts of cold air in January-March, so to completely rule it out like he did was just asinine to me.
